2004. Back to the memories and kino. Back to when I met my buddy playing counter-strike source, and all the adventures we went on for years. Back to when I had passion to work on my projects, and had hope I'd find the perfect woman. When the future still looked bright, and I hadn't yet become the cynical middle-aged man I've become.

Shame Wesp spends all his time making nothing arbitrary changes to his unofficial patch rather than make some actual mods for the game. I thought Prequel had promise even if it was jank as hell, mostly in the writing. But playing as a Hunter was fun and the oil rig section was a legitimately interesting idea, if a little unpolished. Would've preferred him going down the mod route rather than tarnishing his legacy with these arbitrary changes.

Plot makes no sense and voice acting is some of the worst you will ever hear with russian nazis with cheapest microphones under the sun.
>>
>>3635197
It's an excellent case study in a designer's grasp exceeding their reach. The plot is absolutely batshit insane (those parts I could decipher from the aggressively ESL writing and voice acting), and the side-quests are a mixed bag of ideas.

It's impressive what they managed to do in an engine that fights you as hard as Bloodline's unfinished version of Source, but it has serious execution issues in writing and presentation. I wonder if they had just committed to text and gotten a better translator if it would come off as unpolished.

Just played this for the first time recently and I really enjoyed it, but now I'm really struggling to find an RPG that scratches the same itch. I tried Mass Effect for the first time but I don't like the setting at all.
Might replay KOTOR II or something, somehow I think it's the most similar game I'm aware of in terms of roleplaying mechanics and story progression.
>>
>>3635496
If you haven't played them, try Deus Ex Jensen duology, those are somewhat similar games. Hub worlds are reasonably detailed, full of hidden stuff to discover and side quest to find.

The clan quest mod fucking sucks and the fanbase was memed into thinking it's the gold standard. It's not, the writing is terrible, the voice acting is worse (but it's forgivable for a bunch of amateurs), and the quests not only break established setting lore but also the game-established canon.

The Sabbath area is fun for one playthrough, but hearing "EY I'M A VAMPIRE, GOT SUPERPOWERS N SHIT, CHICKA." from a mexipire is fucking hilarious every time. That's all the good parts summed up.

The Tremere quest, touted as the shining example, is 14 year old's idea of what deep philosophical thoughts are.
>Are you eviiil?
>Why you gotta huuuurt?
>Who are yooooou?

The other ones are edgelord cringe (the one with VV being the worst one).
>>
>>3635973
Yeah I never tried the Tremere clan quest, I was very annoyed that the Ventrue Clan Quest had very little to do with my being a Ventrue and was more of an exploration of Assamite and Sabbat lore than anything to do with the Ventrue.

Sabbat area is way more fun playing as a Camarilla Infiltrator than as a Sabbat member, and while it was kinda fun in a dumb fanfic way, the endgame of the Sabbat route is pretty stupid. They write themselves into a corner and the only reason LaCroix doesn't just win is the Sheriff botches your execution for some unknown reason.

>>
>>3641201
Maybe? I've been playing a homebrewed VtM to VtR rules conversion for so long I don't remember which things are inherent to the vampire template by default in Masquerade. Did you know that in Masquerade, you need Protean 1 to have better night vision than a normal human? Weird.
>>
My favorite race? Ventrue (whites). My favorite ending? Independent, because you're not allowed to take over the Cumrilla.
>>
>>3641201
no, you need auspex to see if someone is a vampire or other kind of natural
>>
>>3640967
Probably.
Otherwise it would have been Vampire the Masquerade without vampires because monkee see monkee feel and everyone would have complained that it feels like GTA without vehicles. Its pretty business as usual to cast aside some parts of the pnp to make a video game more presentable or work in its limitations. You shouldnt be unable to just randomly walz trough the nightlife of downtown as seriously disfigured Nos but you can etc.
That said I would have loved it as it would have added so much mechanically to the game to use auspex not just for stats, maybe even in dialogue, etc.
>>
I never understood why the vampires were like "yeah Jeannette can use magic to fuck". I mean I get that the male vampires might not get it up because dead dick (but even that don't make no sense, cuz intro). But why was Mercurio like "you can't or don't do that sort of thing!".
>>
>>3642467
Having sex as a vampire is mainly a high humanity thing, Mercurio learned that vampires don't have sex from LaCroix, who is a Ventrue, not exactly a humane clan like Toreador and Brujah, plus LaCroix is low humanity. IIRC If you go with the Tremere ending Strauss tells you that the beast can take many forms and LaCroix's obsession with power and not caring anything else is a sign of him giving into his beast or something like that
>>
First time playthrough, just about to head into a museum.
Is this game supposed to be an ImSim? It doesn't seem like one. I'm surprised at how few real missions there have been. That Oceanview House was like the first real one you do, and by the way, talk about huge disappointment. That level is easily THE most talked about part of this game and it was a few jump scares, one diary entry, and then you leave. No payoff, nothing.
So far the game has been fine, but nothing outstanding or noteworthy aside from the facial animations which are still impressive. The RPG elements are also strange and don't seem to really effect much either. I chose the Tremere, put my points into domination and guns, but guns fucking suck so every big fight has been: blood purge and then punch them with my like 1 unarmed because it outdamages my guns.
>>
>>3642467
Mercurio says can't or don't, he probably asked LaCroix and only got the gist that vampires don't fuck. I like to think he was lying so Jeanette can't pump his ghoul's dick and then pump him for info. Going off tabletop you can fuck if you spend some blood on it, but you don't enjoy the sex itself because it's nothing compared to feeding and you're probably an emotionless serial killer anyway.
>>
>>3643791
guns being garbage is only really true for the starter revolver, it should be fine after that
>>
>>3643791
You should have the shotgun which does a good amount of damage and knocks most enemies down. I use that until I get to Hollywood, then you can get the Colt Anaconda and the automatic shotgun from Mercurio or Fat Larry I think. Press tab with them to set them to full auto and they melt pretty much anything.
>>
>>3642467
Masquerade vampires 100% can fuck, the high humanity only thing you hear repeated often enough is V5 lore and I have no idea why it gets repeated so much. A lot of the biggest perverts in Masquerade are low humanity or not even on humanity at all, the Sabbat is famous for being a bunch of weird sex freaks. VtM even had an official erotica book that has several low or no humanity elders fucking each other.

Now I will admit, the official material does waffle on this a lot. Sometimes a book will say "vampires absolutely don't fuck" and then another book will say "they 100% do". Sometimes the same book will contradict itself on this point.

Most don't do it because a casual sexual encounter is at best a little less pleasurable than drinking blood for so much more work. Mercurio, as a ghoul, knows only a little more than the player does, and was told by probably LaCroix, or a previous master that vamps don't fuck. Those that do have sex are either doing it as a part of a legitimate romance or have a perversion so strong it actually gets them off enough to be worth doing it instead of feeding. Hell I think the high humanity thing is a weird modernism of trying to be more "sex positive" by saying only high humanity vamps want to fuck for any possible reason.
>>
>>3643837
I wanted to use the 9mm uzi, but it has such insane spread that I can only make it effective by stunning people and then standing right next to them unloading it.
>>3643906
Yeah I got the shotgun from the diner ambush, but it still doesn't seem to compare to stun/punch. It's so slow and does like 20 damage. I'm not aiming at the head though since I didn't expect a in depth system, but I guess I'll try it.
>>
>>3644055
Only zombies take headshot damage. How many points do you have in your Firearms stat? I'd always get it up to 5 or 6 by that point and it worked really well for me. But you have to give it time for the crosshair to shrink and get close to the enemy or else not enough pellets hit.
>>
>>3644055
>I wanted to use the 9mm uzi, but it has such insane spread that I can only make it effective by stunning people and then standing right next to them unloading it.
Also, use this like a semi auto gun unless you're right next to them. Do taps or burst fires. Still need your Firearms skill a bit higher for it to work otherwise the spread is still really high but it was decent enough when I used it a bit during my last playthrough.

>These mods were made before most zoomers were old enough to play this kind of vidya, projecting zoomer trying to fit.
I played VtmB when it came out, I was in high school at the time. The sewer has always been regarded as a slog and a low point in the game, but I have never heard of anyone complaining about the hotel, much less installing a mod to skip it. I cannot comprehend feeling the need to do so.
>>

>>3640717
Nta but that was interesting
>>
>>3644089
When you play it enough times it has nothing to surprise you with. There is no roleplaying involved during the quest and you don't need to do anything other than walk and pick up one item.
>>
Alright, played all night and then my game crashed. It was acting really weird and loading into certain screens was causing super low frame rates.
I just killed Bach. He ran down from his sniper spot and I camped a building where he couldn't hit me and just whittled his health down. Got back to La Croix and I guess there's supposed to be debris in front of the building but it's not visible. In La Croix's suite, nearly every asset had been replaced with a cabinet. I went back outside and the taxi had also turned into TWO cabinets, stacked awkwardly with the guy floating in them. Then my game just crashed lol.
I'm going to be alone on this, but my favorite mission so far has been the sewers. It was substantially long, and drained me of all resources (the ugly vampire boss in the house was incredibly hard and I ran out of all my ammo) which in turn forced me to consider every action, AND it taught me how stealth works in the game. Turns out it's not by sight -- purely numbers. So with my sneaking at 6 I've been strolling past everyone and casting suicide. If I get "caught" I walk into another room and crouch and everyone loses me. I couldn't imagine how easy it would be with even higher sneak. The game has become far more manageable now.

tl;dr I'm enjoying the game despite it being horribly unfinished and janky, although I would never consider this a must play classic. It IS in line for a remake to actually finish it.
>>
>>3644227
That's your choice. Why are you speeding through it? Do you skip all the dialogue, too?
>>
>>3644314
Are you using mods and/or fan patches?
>>
>>3644314
The game has memory leak issues that nobody has been able to fix. If you start seeing assets being replaced then all you have to do is restart the game.

I liked the sewers too though. I wouldn't say they were my favorite but I didn't really have a negative opinion of it at all after my first playthrough.
>>
>>3643791
>The RPG elements are also strange and don't seem to really effect much either.
What games do you consider good RPGs?
>>
>>3644357

>>
>>3644331
Just that unofficial patch everyone recommends to get the game running.

So now I'm on a werewolf boss that seems impossible. I have to survive for three minutes and he kills me in three hits. I ran back to the tram building and figured I'd cheese him by blocking the door, but he hit me through it and then broke it down. I literally have nothing I can do here unless they really expect me to get lucky and juke him around trees for several minutes.
>>
>>3635496
Nothing does, really. Very unique game. It is beyond tragic that Troika went out of business because no one else bought it. I generally hate "action" "rpgs", yet this is one of my favorite games ever. The characters as great, the writing witty, the level progression satisfying, and the options fun.

>>
>>3644373
I didn't even know there WAS an observatory. I wish the cutscene with Nines didn't play the second you walk outside because I have no idea what my surroundings are and I get no time to look. And it's hitting me now that even though I'm playing the mage class, there's no healing spell or items even. I mean I guess it usually doesn't matter because I can hide and heal. Bosses are really the only thing that comes close to killing me now.
>>
>>3644388

>>
>>3644396

>>
>>3644388
Tremere have an infinite blood and health generator going once you have enough points in Thaumaturgy. Steal their blood from afar, pop Bloodheal if you need to, that's it.
>>
>>3644366
Werewolves in VTM are much stronger than vampires, and this particular one is pretty much impossible to kill without some clever thinking, like the other anon hinted at. You get more exp for "solving" it that way, but your only goal is to not die to the werewolf.
>>
>>3644400
Blood Heal is only in the plus patch.

You find a few blood packs throughout the game but you can buy them from certain NPCs.
>>
Is there a mod that makes blood frenzy/need to feed/humanity/masquerade and, most importantly, walking as a Nosferatu in the public an actual problem? I remember I barely needed to use the sewers if I just kept my distance on the streets. Humanity meant literally nothing. Masquerade? Had to lose points on purpose to see what happens. I hate how accurate the Chinese guys are with these uzis! With maxed out firearms these still want to fly out of my hand if I shoot more than one bullet at a time. I guess I should just consider them weak pistols that can carry extra ammo. And also, is there any way to reduce sway when aiming? There's almost no point in zooming in with the few guns that can if the sway is that bad despite my high firearms skill.
>>
>>3644996
You maxed out your Ranged stat with Firearms and Perception right?
>>
>>3645023
Firearms is maxed and Perception is at a ... 3 I believe. So nearly there.
>>
>>3645029
If you get it to 10 the sway on zoom should disappear completely. I'm not sure about the regular uzi but I remember with 10 Ranged I was able to spray the Killmatic SMG without much of a problem too.

There isn't much difference between 8 and 10 for Melee but with Ranged it actually makes a difference.

Okay so I was eventually able to get past this, but I absolutely hated this part. Hands down worst "mission" in the game. It's effective in establishing terror, but I had no clue what to do or where to go and had zero time to experiment and none of my abilities helped. So I don't know how Nine wasn't found by the wolves and killed earlier.
Anyway, I ran through the observatory and found a room with a massive telescope and a switch that wouldn't do anything, but by the time I reached that the werewolf found me. I survived by crouch-walking around the telescope and camping on the smallest part of the second floor, behind it as far as I could get without falling off. The werewolf just paced below me and I waited here until the time ran out. Nearly died though escaping because of the way doors work in the game. The tram doors open out, so I ran to them and got caught on them and ate a shit ton of damage right at the finish line.
The monster is so fast that I don't know how you'd survive normally without cheesing it like I did and I'm a light, dexterity mage (not sure if there is weight or speed altering stats). I feel like just running through there for 3 minutes straight like Scooby Doo would be torture.
gif related. me this whole mission.
>>
>>3645079
As a follow up, I made a save after the timer ran up and I could leave, so I could try things out. Loaded that one back up after escaping and ran around the observatory. Eventually found the shack out back with a switch that didn't immediately do anything, but when I went back in, the telescope doors opened. That's when I was like "Oh maybe I can trap him." Strangely though, getting him up TO those doors was awkward as he didn't know where I went and had trouble getting to me.
Its not really the game's fault for this, but I'm not sure I would have considered crushing it without some hints as that's not a gameplay mechanic anywhere else. I end up complaining that games are too guided, but when you're asked to actually think for yourself, I have trouble with it, because I'm too autistically focused on what I've been shown is possible! I make things harder on myself for not trying.

I appreciate all the people answering my random questions. After I beat this I'm going to restart as a melee user and see how the game feels. See if boss fights are any easier. As a Tremere, I think I've had to cheese every boss I've encountered -- past a certain point.

Hey man, I'm lost. Where's a good thread/board to discuss concept games? I'm pretty sure there's a place full of wannabe 4chan game devs somewhere, but I don't know..
>>
The difficulty is so back and forth in VTM. Most enemy encounters are nothing. I have a 6 in sneak and no one can see me, but bosses are so cheap. The game always unequips your weapon and I can't set my keys to anything other than F1-3, so EVERY boss fight starts with me looking down at the keys, finding the gun that I think might work, scrolling like a madman to get the right spell, and taking 2 hits in the process.
I have no clue how to defeat Ming. You can't side dodge her vertical swipes and the room is too small. I can shoot her tentacles off, but then that spawns like two extra Mings and they corner me and beat my ass. I just want this damn game over with. Tremere was a bad choice. Blood magic doesn't work on anything beyond goons and it's nearly useless in boss battles. What a shitty class.

Pic related. She takes some bonus damage on headshots but not much else you can do. It's an interesting fight but poorly balanced. Don't feel bad if you have to cheat to get past her.

>Blood magic doesn't work on anything beyond goons and it's nearly useless in boss battles.
Spamming the level 1 Thaumaturgy spelll does a lot of damage. Though if you're using the plus patch with the casting animations it doesn't work as well.

I had a lot of fun when I played Tremere, I got Thaumaturgy and Dominate both up to level 3 and that felt like enough to be a decent mage. And it helps if you stock up on blood packs since you don't have to buy much else and it lets you cast without worrying about running out of blood.

>Is this game supposed to be an ImSim?
No. ImSim is a retarded designation and barely a real genre. It's an action RPG whose story branches near the end, with optional side quests. Your dialogue choices do matter, at times, but the story structure doesn't truly change. At best you lock yourself out of a mission or rewards, but don't really affect most of the story.

Okay, the K key is super important and I never knew. That has greatly helped with combat. Much appreciated!
I was ONLY able to defeat Ming by again, cheesing her, but accidentally this time. I started hugging up against her, Dark Souls style because she was slow to turn and that seemed to work. She would run away if you stuck to her. The time I beat her, she ran away to the staircase leading to the fight and then got stuck and didn't do anything as I spammed blood strike.
I'm interested in trying the game again now. So I did beat it. Thanks for all the help everyone! The ending was surprisingly nothing and anticlimactic. I told Strauss and they showed up and arrested La Croix. Cut to black. I was so fed up with my first playthrough that I was just going to open the sarcophagus in hopes we all died, but I didn't get to.
Immediately started up as Gangrel to see how they felt and I'm going melee/unarmed. Already made it up to Hollywood, about to do the sewers! Just knowing how missions go, how the stealth works, and the K key has made this playthrough a breeze!
>>
>>3645323
>Immediately started up as Gangrel to see how they felt and I'm going melee/unarmed. Already made it up to Hollywood, about to do the sewers!
Dude you're zooming through the game. Take your time, walk around, look around. Listen to Deb.

I honestly think you're unable to enjoy the atmosphere at the rate you're playing. Let alone think about what you're actually doing, reading your previous posts.
>>
I think if Deb is half as cute and sexy as her voice, then she must be the prettiest girl in town.
>>
>>3645101
Seconding. I'm in the earliest stages of working on an amateur game and would love to just shoot the shit about ideas and design choices with other people.
>>
>>3645334
I'm on my second playthrough, why wouldn't I zoom through? My goal was to see how a melee oriented class felt compared to Tremere and turns out, it's been 100x easier. Every boss so far I just pop Fortitude and go to town with my sledgehammer. In one casual sitting I got all the way up to the Leopold Society mission.
The game has awesome atmosphere, easily its best feature, but you're greatly overstating how much there is to do in this game. Outside of the few NPC quest givers, you can't talk to people and key characters don't often get new dialogue. I also have no reason to return to my haven because there's nothing there for me -- so I only hear the radio at the gas station in Hollywood.
>>
>>3644366
without a hint of irony, I think you should have played this game in a vacation or some such comfier mood.

Game is considered immersive thanks to the high amount of details, at least in the first half. Gaming got better and worse since, and few games rewarded me so well for snooping around and finding skill books, secret quest rewards like the werewolf one and useless stuff like the Radio and TV show.

On top of that there's also learning about the VtM setting and realizing YOU are special because you have the power of common sense. Jeanette, Ash, LaCroix, Ming are emotionally compromised and either give you speech checks to pull you into their bullshit or cannot be reasoned with

Because you barely understood what you were doing the first time around. You're blazing through dialogue without reading the subtext of most of them being fuck-ups or attempts at manipulations.
You had zero knowledge of what you were doing and either don't explore or are using a guide, but then you couldn't even figure out the werewolf fight. Honestly dude, you're not enjoying the game.

Btw, you're able to kill the werewolf with the patches without crushing it. GL.

>>3645923
This. Maybe it's a generational thing, maybe it's an age thing, but Bloodlines just has a 'vibe', a mood of urban decay and being a terror in the night, recently turned and still remember what it meant to be normal. You have to get into or you don't enjoy it ig.

Both of you are completely wrong and also imagining things.

So now having beaten it on a second playthrough as a Gangrel melee/fortitude build, if it weren't for the Ming Xiao fight, this would be the easiest way to beat the game. No money spent on ammo or guns, just a few armors. I never needed a single bloodpack until the Ming fight either since my strength meant I could actually drain more of the enemies. With Fortitude nobody could hurt me in regular levels aside from the bigger Sabbat guys. Even the bosses all went down pretty easily. So now I'm going to try once more with a gun build to see how that feels.
Oh and I went Hacking since it's improved with Wits, but turns out there are almost no beneficial computers to hack. Most of them just get you some goofy emails. So I think Lockpicking is the right choice. All the way to the end there are high doors that skip chunks of the stages.
If the thread is still up I'll report back with my findings.

Nah, there are kids that are quite alright too. Met them online and IRL. He's pretty much incompatible with this game so he's getting frustrated bashing his head at the surface but perhaps some day he'll return to it and be able to appreciate it. At least he's trying, much more than can be said about the majority of that generation.
>>
On a replay now as a Ventrue with guns and turns out guns just stink. The first half of the game is almost entirely melee enemies that all teleport up to you when they strike, which makes shooting them a real pain in the ass. It gets a bit easier in the second half when more carry guns, but with both of these it's far easier and quicker to run up and melee them. It's also easier to strike multiple people this way. Only shotguns carry use because they send foes flying (sometimes), so on 1v1's that's potentially the better option, but melee is still solid.
And I think no matter what offense style you choose, Ming Xiao is still going to be unbearable. She's honestly the only thing that needs a patch to skip around. You literally have to build your entire character around dealing with her. Everything else is a piece of cake. Even the Sheriff does almost nothing and has terrible AI.
Every time I play, my sessions always end with the memory leak problems. Today when I had to stop because the game wouldn't work, everything in my apartment was a Chinese man rolled up into a ball.

I just ignored it and maxed out shield and shooting, plus decent melee and stealth. Was kinda fun as a dude who has played bloodlines enough to understand the janky combat, but it shows how much bloodlines relies on story. Did a second run without any faith powers (except the heal, it'd be impossible without the heal) and it was fun in a masochistic way to be playing as a normal dude. Worst part was the whole "anti-vampire amulet" plot. Someone comes to save you but only if you spare them? Everything else could be *understood* but almost every VA was terrible. That said, it had lots of highlights
>that guy in Paris who got kicked out of his house by his grandfather's ghost
the ghost model was legitimately spooky, as was the surprise fight in the basement with the "statues" if you are too cocky
>the little secrets here and there
like getting a free Redemption if you swim from sub to shore, perhaps a nod to Gothic 2?
>the Enigma questline underneath Paris
cringe kino
>the entirety of Zurich
is build with the highway from the credits, tho it slows the game down after a while. I liked the (optional) Tzimisce encounter
>The final fight using Tony Jay voicelines
kino

retarded story tho, Paris museum unbeatable without guide, Becket questline busted since it relies on museum

Here's a theory I haven't seen around here: VV really wants you to join the Anarchs, possibly at Isaac's suggestions.
Isaac knows that by the time you reach HW you've been preached to enough, so he is rude and distant at first to seem genuine, then rewards you.
VV shows dislike for politics. Instead she talks highly of Isaac and gushes all over you so you like them both and thus indirectly their faction.
By the end she may genuinely admire you if it looks like she did a good job selling their cause.
Too bad Ash is a little bitch.

Have you actually played the game? You can have sex with Jeanette even if both of you are vamps.

In WoD vampires can "spend" blood (assuming they have enough) around their genital area to either get an erection if male or wet their pussy if female. Like kickstarting their old human reproductive organs for a while. They obviously cannot become fertile and, as said before, the pleasure gained from this will never amount to the exhilaration of blooddrinking - the real thing. But it can happen.

It's not even WoD/VTM lore. Dhampirs exist in other more popular settings like DnD for example. They even exist in VTM, but come solely from thinbloods and are one of the signs of Gehenna.
>>
>>3662632
>>3662660
They can fake it but the pleasure they get from sex is psychological and considered deviate and degenerate for most vampires. Basically like you fags want to dress like a woman be railed by another men.

From what I remember of my secondhand tabletop lore (not sure which version), you need an exceptionally high humanity score to truly enjoy sex. At mid levels you can fake it with the Blush of Life, but it doesn't really feel like anything. And at low humanity you can't really remember what you're even supposed to do during sex, so even if you can still pull off the Blush of Life, you'll have a hard time passing yourself off as human.
>>
>>3662672
yeah, that's pretty much how I understood it. Jeanette and VV enjoy sex because of severe trauma, Toreadors cling to human things as they struggle with grief. It was the notion that vampires in general feel pleasure when having sex that I was confused by.
>>
>>3662682
That's V5 trash, the high humanity requirement for boning is a V5 invention.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat this for it to stick but vampires can fuck. The biggest canonical slut in VtM lore is Lucita de Aragon, and she is Humanity 4. Aside from fucking half of the other "signature" characters, she once hired a male prostitute, fucked him on the church grounds of her sire's haven, and then killed him, leaving his naked body there for the sire to find as a "fuck you, dad". The Sabbat, the humanity-rejecting faction is regularly shown to engage in sexual perversion more often than the Camarilla. Look at a Sabbat book and see how many times you spot people in bondage gear.

VtM also had an official erotica novel, Eternal Hearts. Vampires of any humanity score or even those not on humanity can engage in sexual acts to varying degrees of gratification. Sex v.s. blood drinking is like comparing a fine meal to a heroin hit, but only the most deep in the hole dysfunctional junkies are going to turn down a nice meal if offered. Many vampires see sex as pointless. Others indulge in increasingly perverse acts to keep getting their rocks off. Others might fall madly in love with someone and do it only with them.

Very punk. The man is a chad in a three piece suit.

>Tzimisce, the guys who can change their bodies to be anything they want are a bunch of inhuman freaks that like to make furniture out of innocent people.
Unintentionally based.

Played this game for the first time in my life this November. It's insane how good this hits for me. The writing, the atmosphere, the characters, the humour, the dialogue, the voice acting, the setting. Everything. I love exploring this world. Just finished my second run. This game is unique to the point that I can ignore the flaws. And it gives me hope for a great future for RPGs. Problem: It's 20 years old. I'll never find something like this again.

Even and already if you only consider it aesthetically. A gay friend of mine told me years ago how ridiculous he thinks black vampires in movies are. He said that watching blood running down dark skin just isn't as striking a sight as the spectacle of blood running down pale white skin. He's right. Blood smeared lips framed by a pale white face are mesmerizing.

>>
>>3668093
I think vampires can work pretty well with most cultures and ethnic groups, you just can't try to copy and paste the same tropes wholesale.

Mexico you got multiple angles you could go for, an old blood Spaniard who won this land through conquest against the savages, forever looking down on the mortal cattle while living in a once beautiful now decrepit villa. One of the half-bandit half revolutionary types who was turned, still living out in the wilderness, bushwhacking people for blood, fighting a war that has been over for a century, growing all the more bitter by how the world has left him behind. Hell, the Aztecs and all their love of blood, sacrifice, and war are rife for vampire material. Inhuman blood gods from a bygone age, who practice their monstrous blood rituals in secret.

If anything, Mexico's history of blood, war, weird religion, and political strife makes it a great place to set a vampire story.
>>
>>3667738
I'm not surprised. I'm one of them now. It's not like I can't see that the second half of the game is a lot weaker than the first half. But it's still the kind of game that makes it a lot harder for me to enjoy other more derivative and unimaginative games.

Guns get better in midgame. That is also when your character comes online and your choices begin to reallymatter.

The Oceanview hotel hit differentlyback then. When you played it the first time you had no idea that you would not have to for real fight the ghost. Before Oceanview you only fought a couple human gangsters.
>>
>>3668182
I started a game not to long ago and only used guns, it's not as bad as people say. the only problem is that some clans have some really good buffs to unarmed and a combo generally comes out faster than a shotgun could damage. and a lot of other gripes came from the boss fights being unintentionally weird for melee characters, so i think there's a lot of negativity about the game that all blends together.
>>
>>3668160
This is why I said vampires can work for most cultures and ethnic groups. They rely on some pretty useful themes. How exactly does being Mexican stop you from using these themes, as well as all the historical events that took place in Mexico? Even current year Mexicans have angles you can work with beyond the random cholos that litter the CQM's Sabbat. Cartels and their love of disappearing people, human trafficking, weird religious cults, and controlling/intimidating politicians has everything you could want in a standard VtM affair.

>doesn't help with Ash's plight, Stoneface and geodude situation
either doesn't know or actively avoids confrontations
>after finishing her questline, she can be found simply dancing, which is something some people do to "not have to think", another hallmark of people who want to disconnect and stay in their own headbubble

So you could say she's just a very Tory Toreador but she also screams "damaged goods" which is why she breaks quickly under scrutiny but (fortunately for the player) is appreciative of support

last but not least, I saw that the CQM devs have a similar opinion. One of their quests state that VV was sired in the Sabbath and her Sire was mighty pissed she escaped.

That's too bad. I liked Prelude. I wanted them to stick with the Hunter stuff a bit more though. Think it's a wasted opportunity.
>>
>>3684761
Agreed on the Hunter stuff, I wouldn't have minded a full Hunter mod desu. For as popular as they are in books and t.v./movies, there's very little in the way of urban fantasy hunter vidya. What there is juices you up to the point you're killing goober monsters in droves. Playing as just a dude or maybe a dude with some low level faith powers has a lot of appeal.

If I had to guess maybe they were concerned about the hunter powers not having enough depth to last a longer game. But I think the truth is they wanted to go back to something safe, hence sorta falling back into the same narrative devices like crazy uncle Jack rather than take the gamble of shoving you into the Sabbat.

I didn't notice any unnecessary, but I hadn't played since winter 2020, so it's been a while
>>

Yes lol

>Unlocked doors in the SM clinic and on the Dane for easier routes.
This is a change in a recent version though it's for basic. I never thought those routes were "hard". My guess is it's meant for the plus version because he nerfed Blood Buff in it for some reason which makes it less useful for lockpicking.

>modder makes two versions of an unofficial patch
>one is supposed to be solely bug fixes and QoL improvements, for people who want the vanilla game without content changes or additions
>one is supposed to have all the content changes and additions
>modders ego and desire for control increases, he knows what’s best for you, loses restraint
>adds content changes to the basic vanilla mod that’s not supposed to have any
Why are they like this
>>
>>3686917
>Why are they like this
I saw it happen with another game. When criticized, they basically said they consider it their game now and want to essentially remake it and claim it as their own, and there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Wesp was never that hostile about it with the Unofficial Patch, but he has said he considers himself taking over where the devs left off and that people are going to keep using his patch no matter what anyway.
>>
>>3686924
Two other examples that immediately come to mind are ToEE and VtM:R
I haven’t played VtM:B since retail 1.0 when it came out and I kinda wanna replay it but I also kinda don’t want to deal with sorting through six gorillion different patch versions to find a simple vanilla+ one with no changes or additions. I think I re-bought the game on GoG and it comes with some old fan patch pre installed

It happened with Morrowind too. But I really like how the Morrowind Code Patch lets you choose every single thing if you want it or not. If the Unofficial Patch did this I'd be happy with it.

I think people say the old 9.x and earlier versions are still alright without too many of the extra changes. GoG comes with the Unofficial Patch but newer versions.

I basically combined the True Patch for pure vanilla fixes and the Unofficial Patch for better technical fixes, it's personally my preferred way of playing the game. I bet both of the creators would be mad at me for doing that lol. But I can share it if you want that.
>>
>>3686937
If they make it 100% modular and configurable I think it’s fine, like that example. It’s only an issue imo when they bake it unwanted changes you can’t avoid. Or even better, they’ll make it 95% modular and toggleable but then bake in just a little bit of dumb shit, just enough to ruin it.
>>
>>3686945
Yeah, separating the patch into basic and plus was a good start but people have been asking for more lately. Since it was originally a restoration patch, all the extra custom stuff probably should've been a third option at the very least.
>>
>>3627342
The sequel?
Straight to Gamepass or Epic Free Giveaways.
>>
>>3686937
Wesp adding some nonsense stuff isn't a new thing, at some point he added crying Jeanette to the Mercurio pulling himself to his apartment cutscene because he found something very loosely hinting to it in the code or something similar and that was in 7.something I think, I remember some people complaining about it. The guy just looks at code and tries to make sense of everything even if what was left isn't meaningful, still a great mod though people here are just being faggots
>>
>>3687060
He adds in a lot of completely custom content that has nothing to do with restorations and pushes the line on what fixing a bug means so he can keep introducing his own changes. But that's not really the issue, the issue is just people feeling like they aren't able to pick and choose what they want with the patch if there are things they don't like about it. People have been asking for more options like that for a while but he said it would be too much work to do.

I don't completely hate the Unofficial Patch, but if I just want bug fixes, then I just want bug fixes, but there's no option for that. If I just want restored cut content there's no option for that either. And the patch started out claiming to do those things, that basic would just fix bugs and that plus would just fix bugs and restore cut content.

There's a reason the Unofficial Patch spawned two variations where people took it and modified it to suit their needs. If Wesp just added more options of what to use or not, this wouldn't have happened.
>>
I like the new stuff he adds, even if the quality's lacking. I'm pretty sure the whole museum exterior is there just so he can throw another one of the unused tracks, and I love all of them, so it's fine by me
>>
>>3627342
2025! I do think it will be a great year!
>>
>>3687414
I wouldn't mind incorporating the unused tracks at all, since they're quite good, if not for the fact he MOVED SMALLER GOD OFF OF THE GOD DAMN BEACH AND HID IT AWAY IN THE EMPIRE ARMS HOTEL LOUNGE THE MOTHERFUCKER!
>>
>>3687849
On the version I got the other week, it was back on the beach. There was a note about in the patch notes. Some other song in the Empire Arms now. I don't think I had played it when they were swapped though, so I don't know if it's the same.
>>
>>3687855
Were you playing basic? I think after the initial change and backlash the change was made plus only.

The change was silly anyway. If he thought the same song playing in two places really was a bug that needed fixing, why did he use a song that played somewhere else to replace it?
>>
>>3688104
No, I was on plus each time. I just dunno if it was swapped back when I played before.
Or maybe I'm misremembering and he did have it switched back then. I do remember Smaller God playing in both locations in the past though.

>>
>>3689888
I don’t remember, the last time I played vtmb it was the retail 1.0 twenty years ago. I just don’t get the point of such changes, seems very arbitrary and “because I can”. Maybe that’s his fetish
>>
>>3689889
A lot of plus patch is stuff like that, yeah. Functionally it's a mod with bug fixes added. I'm not sure how much of the Library quest (as far as I know the biggest thing added with UP+) is in game files/scripted with the game at the start but disabled vs made from scratch
>>
>>3689888
There was definitely whispering.
>>
I can't turn back time or undo what has happened but I am here to listen
>>
>>3689911
Yeah, if he got rid of that then idk. Again I'd have to double check, could have sworn it was there, but I was in a voice call at the time
>>
>>3689860
What makes this more retarded is that these are in the basic patch

>>3689888
Yeah, they were in the original game. Wesp's conclusion was "only Malkavians should hear whispers so these shouldn't be here". Basically his autism or something makes him not understand the whispers are there for the haunted house atmosphere
>>
>>3689961
???
That makes no sense. Can ghosts not communicate? They can already manipulate things and throw them around clearly.
>>
Speaking of patches, how many are there now?
>Lurkchan's Absolutely Unofficial True Patch Platinum
>Mike Roberts's Standard Mod Patch
>Tessera's True Patch Gold
>WESP's Unofficial Basic/Plus Patch
These all of them?
>>
>>3689990
What’s the most basic one without added or questionable shit?
>>
>>3689992
Lurkchan's is the most basic. He made it to play the game on pure vanilla 1.2 with modern hardware, he didn't change anything else. The Standard Mod Patch 0.7 is the next best if you want bug fixes. He made some other content changes in 0.8, so not as vanilla but still more vanilla than WESP's Basic Patch.
>>
>>3690004
Lurk's is just to speedrun it, yeah?
>>
>>3690006
Yeah, he made it for speedrunners, but it works for anyone who wants the purest 2004 content. I'd definitely recommend SMP if you don't care about that though

maybe to midwits, these are the defining traits of a vampire.
to me, it's the extremely psychotic aversion to death and saying "fuck you" to the rest of the world to assure your own immortality stays intact. in essence, a parasite that creates absolutely nothing, only existing as useless entropy.
>>
>>3690004
I played the Standard Mod Patch for a bit and noticed some random changes I didn't care for much. But it seems like a better choice than the Basic Patch.

I still prefer the True Patch with some files from the Unofficial Patch for extra technical fixes. It's actually vanilla with less problems. There's no other option for that. Changes made by the UP/SMP kind of miss the point as to why things were done a certain way sometimes.

Yeah I did. Combined it with files from the Unofficial Patch for W10 support, plus better widescreen support and faster saving. Works pretty well.

Remember when Wesp found a reference to "All your base are belong to us" in the code, so he "restored" it in 9.x to play the fucking meme song during the game's last mission. I think it's still in the patch too, he just locked it behind Malk players only after enough people called him a retard

I actually read up on the woman they based her on and she seemed more like a Ventrue than a Toreador in my opinion. Shrewd businesswoman who ran a very tight ship and had a hand in more than you might think politically.

But Toreador is always going to be the go-to for sexy vampire, even though any clan not named Nosferatu can have high appearance.

I really wish protean claws didn't have that weird lock on and small hitbox man
>>
>>3695068
Same. I tried recently to see if I could make them work like regular fists but it doesn't seem possible. Someone tried a while ago to adjust them to make them attack faster too but it didn't seem to work either. They do a lot of damage so even just one hit has an impact but I feel like they should be equal or faster to fists rather than slower.

I really wish VtMB would get a port to modern Source so things like this could be easily modded. I really wanted to play Gangrel but Protean just isn't that great. Fortitude and Animalism is still kind of fun though.
>>
>>3695154
In the plus patch they get that attack speed boost with protean 5, but it often doesn't help since the hitbox is so small.
Also, knocking the enemy back makes followup hits tough to hit unless you get someone against a wall.
>>
>>3695156
I tried it in the plus patch and the speed is about the same. I think Wesp even said it's impossible to adjust things like that with current mod tools.

But yeah you can sometimes use the leap attack to land a hit as they get back up but most will miss. Missing wouldn't feel so bad if the attack animation was faster though I think. People have complained about how slow it is for a long time but nobody can do anything.
>>
>>3695154
If Bloodlines was in a more flexible engine you probably could have tabletop Protean and Animalism which are way more flexible. They can't really be modded in, the whole game has to be designed with those in mind but with modern tech I think it'd be possible and it'd be great

I somehow fucking failed it 2x in a row and a third due to a bug. Played gangrel with maxed protean, only hit the zombies near/hitting the gates. Each time failed at like <10 seconds
So annoying lol
>>
>>3695068
>>3695154
It's really not too bad so long as you compel your autism with the combo's. If you only quick twice and then briefly pause to readjust your positioning you keep the fast, strong swings without the awkwardly slow third one.
>>
>>3698198
Well it doesn't help when the second attack doesn't hit when the opponent is knocked back out of range from the first one.
