Getting back into this game. Enjoying the EE, though some technical issues. I remember that there was a button or command to have all spoils on the floor being shown, to make them easier to pick up, but it seems gone. Also, all my save files show no character portraits and no screenshot, though they work normally. Had only one crash so far.Doing any playthroughs currently? Have some fun groups going? But, since I hate myself, thinking about creating an entirely new group. 4 characters, several races with EXP penalties, some minor multiclassing, and slightly leaning towards evil.>Aasimar FighterIn some kind of "fallen angel" fashion. Powerful race, slower progressing, but it's a fighter anyway, will have more feats than I know what to do with.>Drow RangerSelf-explanatory, slower EXP progression, focusing on dual-wielding, getting the Weapon-Finesse feat because elf for two large swords.>Human Cleric of Tempus/Talos/BaneTalos maybe for dealing electric damage? The Bane spells for enchantment are nice too. But maybe something can be done with the feats increasing lightning damage. Generic human for quick progression and skill points.>Tiefling Rogue/NecromancerChill Touch would count as sneak attack. It's probably not worth going for the Assassin feat, though. Will need Weapon Finesse again, which is probably not worth it for one single spell. Is it actually better to start as Wizard or as a Rogue for this combo? Don't remember if they gain free spells if you pick Wizard as second class. This group might lack someone being truly charismatic, though does it really matter for Icewind Dale? Don't want to use a Bard again. The Aasimar could be a Paladin, but don't like how they immediately solve certain quests and it goes against the idea of an all evil group.Should probably continue playing my current group anyway. But it's fun to theorycraft.
>TFW downloading portrait packs, didn't really see what was included, and this pops up in the portrait selectionBeen trying to get this to work on Linux through Lutris and Bottles. Hopefully, some autist more familiar with Wine releases a lutris script or someone helps port the installer. I can get the regular game working at least.Anyway, I always found the Icewind Dale games to be interesting. I'm someone that spends an unreasonable amount of time in character creators. So, I love that ID lets me make a party and LARP them in my head. If this series had a decent visual character creator on par with The Sims, I don't want to know how much time I would waste just making characters. My only real complaint from my point of view is that it seems like you're punished for not minmaxing or powergaming.

>>3643626I didn't even know they released an EE for this I thought source code for it was lost in a flood or some shitUnlike other EEs it looks like they didn't release this on mobile, the one clear advantage EEs had over originals

>>3643689>I didn't even know they released an EE for this I thought source code for it was lost in a flood or some shitIt's not an official release, it's a fan-made mod. Although it has some cool ideas that I did like, ultimately I didn't like it and uninstalled it, it has kitchen sink design where they added a bunch of unnecessary and busted items and spells and such, which makes me question the overall wisdom of the modders. We had a few threads about it when it came out, there were anons getting confused about what was in the base game and what was added by the voluminous mod list, much like zoomers playing the unity Daggerfall port.also there are trannies on this board who get irrationally upset if you state that you don't care for the mod and choose to play without it
Never know if greatswords or axes for a two-handed martial.Axe have the advantage that the feat also applies to one-handed variants and throwing axes. But greatswords seem just plain better.
>>3643686>Just played the game as intended with a full party so you actually finish it this time.NTA but over the years, the only time I ever finished IWD2 was with a four-man squad. Tried everything between 1 and 6 party members at various times and usually got bored and dropped it halfway. My favorite variant of the classic fighter/cleric/thief/mage is paladin/cleric/bard/wizard, I like to use the bard as a dex fighter/skill monkey/party buffer support. Currently playing BG3 with this party, haven't played it since its mediocre launch, giving it another chance to see how Larian improved things.

>>3643713>Can you elaborate?Being able to hit from a distance is an incredibly powerful advantage with zero downsides, especially in a game where summons are very useful. Additionalize, this game heavily rewards using the right tools for the job, so no matter what you specialize in you shouldn't be using it all the time, you should be using what enemies are weak to, and you have a very limited amount of drops, so this is why it's important to have a full party with characters that have a wide range of skill sets. Obviously the barbarian is the only character suitable use a 2h at all so might as well give them the best weapon type in the game.
>>3643718Have been doing this forever, each character having a back-up elemental weapon or weapons with different attack types (at the expense of carry weight, but this matters less over time). This is, however, about what to specialize in.

I didn't build my characters very well, I'll admit, but it's ridiculous that the challenge rating is so fucked up that being a level or two above a standard six-man party means you get zero experience from current enemies. While I hate IWD 2's dungeon design, and don't find it a fun game, it does have the core infinity engine gameplay so still has some value and I've played a decent amount of it. In my experience, the absolute nothing bonuses Aasimar and Drow get are garbage compared to missing out on extra levels. So, I replayed the start three times, second one due to wanting to change one of the characters entirely, and the current attempt due to different EXP progression. Pretty good, but the immunities are a bit useless on the rogue who will likely stay out of range of these spells anyway. Didn't want to gamble the drops, but never realize that there were such differences for some encounters. Also, updating the EE was a good idea. While I'm not far enough to really notice the difference in EXP gain, it added some more enemies in some area, and in a good way.

>>3653592Yeah but it's still funny. Also not gust of wind.
>>3653597goddamn, you're one obnoxious fucking cunt lmao
>>3653604Wow, that's crazy.
>>3653597Or you could not do that, and instead use collected knowledge like anyone who's not a retard.
>>3654891>use collected knowledge like anyone who's not a retardWow are you still mad about the dead cat thing not giving XP or what
>>3654891>i get other people to tell me what to do>i smartor you could actually play a video game mod yourself. but, that would require you to actually like figuring things out, which isn't for the intellectually challenged.
>>3654920Or you could use collected knowledge, like anyone who's not a retard. Noone gives a fuck that you're personally offended by someone asking basic questions to get up to speed with the game. That's been standard procedure for decades.
>>3654945or you could learn to actually enjoy playing video games. no one gives a fuck that you're addicted to spoonfeeding and coping about it with appeals to habitual reliance on consensus.
>>3654957I did learn the game by trial and error. Unlike you I don't have severe autism that makes me melt down anytime someone asks a reasonable fucking question when it's not how I'd play the game.
>>3654969Why are you claiming I'm having a "meltdown" or that I'm "autistic" when you're the one who seems emotionally disturbed by my trying to encourage people to think for themselves? Is this projection?
>>3643702>>3645244I did the same thing. A party of 4 for IWD1 and IWD2.But in IWD2 I was playing with a spreadsheet of level lestrictions, delaying leveling up all the time.
>>3655042Last time I played iwd1 I solo’d it as a paladin, also how I learned that the infinity engine had a hard cap of level 50
Pondering what type of party I should play.Maybe I will go with evil party. I think Bane worshipper has some cool content.
>>3655348>neutral evil>cha: 18Sexo.
>>3655348I don't care. Play the game, asshole.
I cannot imagine why anyone would want to play a gameplay mod of one of these old IE games. Having to actually carefully control a whole 6man party beyond auto attacks and casting the occasional spell is just too tedious.
>>3655401World's most hardcore bioware fan.
>>3655401I guess you must be Veilguard enjoyer...?
>>3655401>rtwptard falseflagtoo obvious bro, everyone knows ie games are braindead no matter what mods you use. just press pause.
>>3655348There can be some surprisingly assholish ways to do stuff in this game, but it suffers from the same problem as most rpgs and you most of the time want to quickload and do it "the proper way" to actually get exp and rewards.
>>3643626Man, half the fights feel like you're meant to go in to them with a fully fresh party. Full HP and all spells.Doesn't help when some enemies have a 50% chance of hitting while taking out 1/4 of my tanks hp a hit.Just got to the Black Raven Monastery. Party is,>Paladin>Thief/Mage>Illusionist>Druid>Cleric>BarbarianNot trying to min/max but fuck. Is 25AC just not enough for my tanks? Do I just not have enough CC/Debuffing spells?
Is this game all combat?
>>3657226>Is this game all combat?Yes.
>>3657225Not even close to enough.
Sneak attack is brutal. I love chunking mages at range from stealth before they can get protections up.
>>3657281There's no worse feeling than them firing off before it hits, though. Total bullshit.
>>3657226It's primarily a combat-focused dungeon crawler and wilderness explorer, though there are sections in this game with puzzles, or where you simply talk to NPCs and can influence quests in various ways. There can also be some good reactivity from NPCs based on races and character classes.Don't think that saying "it's just combat" does it justice.
>>3657309It’s just combat.
>>3657309It's 85% combat, 12% walking a linear path, and 3% miscellaneous.
>>3657226IWD1 and 2 are the most combat focused of the Infinity Engine games, followed by BG1 and 2. PS:T has the least mandatory combat segments.
>>3657410*laughs in Curst*You’re broadly correct though
>>3657368>>3657369Okay, then please go back to your dating-sims.
>>3657475What a boring response.
>>3657475It’s interesting that you chose to interpret someone saying that the combat game is just combat as being negative criticism.
Wizard>Sorcerer>Cleric>Druid>BardBarbarian>Rogue(unnerfed SA)>Fighter>Paladin>Ranger>Monk>Rogue(nerfed or untouched SA)Move Barbarian below Monk on HoF. All of them are good.
>>3657226There's a pretty decent NPC mod. This anon also makes a good point, >>3657309
>>3655348she hot
>>3657226Combat and vibes.Give it a shot, it's dirt cheap.Amazing game for the first 2-3 hours. And a mixed bag after that.
>>3657589>vibesThishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEqDtbC3bL8
>>3657666I knew what song this was going to be before I clicked on it
>>3657589>dirt cheapDon't pay for this game.
>>3657410the combat focus is the same in IWD and BGBG just has better pacing and storytelling and richer encounter design which makes it feel more roleplayey, but ain't no pacifist route or talking yourself out of beating the shit out of everything in your path>>3657415Curst is like 30 minutes and 10 of those are dialogue broAnyway, IWD2EE is pretty cool so far but it's really not SCS on steroids. Horde encounters, fairly weak enemy spellcasters, no apparent improvements to AI, 3E bloat. That fucking faggot shilling it like the second coming of Christ then having a crying meltdown when people discuss party compositions and gameplay tips because "thEy doN'T thiNK for theMseLves" is an absolute mongoloid pseud. This board is fucking garbage, as usual.
also>add attacks of opportunity>don't reprogram the enemy AI to avoid moving like complete fucktardsnice
>>3657699The spellcasters get a lot more annoying when they get SCS style instant buffs on combat start.
>>3657704Yeah I'm playing with it, I enjoy that shit a lotHorde encouters kinda put me to sleep though, needs more mobs with cool abilities.
I have to protect her smile...
>>3657724IWD has the CRPG best portrait art of all time, you’re missing out.
>>3657726>trying to convince AI troons of the value of good artworkwaste of time
>>3657699>BG just has better pacing and storytelling and richer encounter designYep, it's a garbage board.
>>3657772brah seriouslyIWD1 has maybe 10 enemies that can do something more than attacking in melee
>>3657773Why do you keep jumping between iwd1 and 2 to dishonestly suit your argument? There is no outcome where bg2 is not a 0/10 game, you cant dishonestly grift the retards here and just magically make a game not shit. It's just all around awful goyslop and SCS doubles down on its biggest mechanical issues. If you want fun combat encounters where enemies will actually rush down your casters, toss your martials aside, have unique challenges beyond casting secret word and breach, etc. then IWD2EE is that game. It's better than SCS because it's what SCS faggots pretend their game is, which couldn't be further from the actual truth. And I've got news for you, the hordes of enemies you fight is perfectly appropriate for an optimized party of 6 players. That mod NEEDS to be set on max scaling. Larger parties means more foes, not stronger foes, because that's how scaling in old dnd works.
>>3657726And if I want to roll with 5 or 6 drow women?
>>3657776Listen you insufferable weaboo tranny, if you have a single argument to make for IWD or IWD2 having great encounter design, do it, otherwise you're just being the same old worthless fucking sack of shit you've always beenFucking explain to me how horde encounter design with the occasional spellcaster is a top tier tactical challenge, explain to me why that shit is supposed to be "what SCS faggots pretend their game is". You're a fucking moron if you think SCS insane no reload is "secret word breach lmao", if you don't understand that exploiting weaknesses not covered by enemy mages' buffs is more efficient and sometimes the only way to go with enemies immune to level 5 spells which includes BREACH, or have enough contingencies loaded with rebuffs, spell turnings si:a and pfmw to make you run out of secret words in two rounds. You want to know my opinion? Seeing as you're always jumping to spout this nonsensical shit at every mention of SCS on the board, you got filtered hard, tried to tell everyone all about it, and they took the piss out of you. I can even assume it happened on old /vr/ and that you've been stewing for literal years.Seriously, what the fuck are your contributions in this thread? "Guys IWD2EE is so good and so deep but I can't explain why, you need to be an expert on 3E to even think about playing it DON'T TALK ABOUT PARTY COMPOSITIONS"Well I've had a good time on the mod so far, much better than trying to beat some sense into you, but it's literally just IWD2 with slight pre-buffing and some good tweaks. Fuck. Meanwhile in SCS you get party wiped in a round if you don't know what the fuck you're doing and are unwilling to learn, and you don't solve that with shitty micro or in the party creation screen.
>>3657788>Fucking explain to me how horde encounter design with the occasional spellcasterBecause there are dangerous ranged units behind the 20 martials, just like how goldbox games worked. This works excellently with the new AoO feature. Are you retarded?
>>3657788>You're a fucking moron if you think SCS insane no reload is "secret word breach lmao", if you don't understand that exploiting weaknesses not covered by enemy mages' buffs is more efficient and sometimes the only way to go with enemies immune to level 5 spells which includes BREACHHuh? There's not a single encounter that can't be won with sw>breach>meteors in scs.
>Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh?
Don't post something dumb if you don't want to get huh'd
>>3657930>Don't post something dumb if you don't want to get huh'dBoy, this post didn’t age well.
>>3657788>DON'T TALK ABOUT PARTY COMPOSITIONSThat wasn't moeblob, that was me. :)
>>3645322It's better than fifth edition, since fifth edition is the same except dumbed down a bit. Going from fourth to fifth was a scam, it didn't actually happen, they went back to third while dumbing in some random simplified mechanics like dice rolls with advantage worse than anything that ever came before.
>>3657922Try it on any boss battle in ToBTry it in any dungeon with 10+ mages like the Planar Prison, try it in the underdark, try it while you try to slaughter heaps of drow mages in ust natha, see what happens to your amazing three spell combo you worthless fucking noob piece of shit>>3657914>ranged units are the peak of encounter design dude goldbox did it lmaoI can't believe this is a real post>>3657972Cool samefagSo this nigger is hogging the discussion in every IE thread ever and he's a complete fucking retard who barely understands how these games work.>duuuuuude you have to be like, so creative with the 3E ruleset, lemme just smother the discussion to death with complete bullshit so nobody can actually talk about thatGreat. Go fuck yourself.
Should I install the damage resistance on armor component? Seems kinda tacked on.
man bioware fans are retarded
>>3655404>>3658297Pity (you)
really retarded
>>3658270>Cool samefagNow you sound like moeblob. XD
>>3658282It's an overall pretty minor impact of you do.
