What's the verdict?
>>3652830Playing it, enjoying it.Closing in on the Final Emperor (can't remember what amount of defeated 7 heroes it triggers on), abdicaited to make the Doll my emperor now heading off to deal with the endless storm.Biggest complaints are some of the lazy design choices, like how the doll looks now or that the nereids having human legs after the intro quest cutscene.
>>3652830Lowkey one of the best JRPG release of the year.
What's the most events you can complete with Gerard before hitting a timeskip, whats the optimal path involved there. Usually I just get the Dragon Fisting Gang to join then work with the Thieves Guild to help me take the fortress which is where his time as the Emperor cuts off.Presumably you can put off helping Cat for a later generation, which is the kind of thing that drives my autism wild seeing characters like the specific original Strategist being alive for up to hundreds of years before you do their event.
Does Subir always absorb the Narwhal in the remake even if you don't kill the rule of the seas? Maybe I just left him too late.
>>3652830The best jrpg just got better
>>3652882Martial artists -> gemstone mine -> meet dantarg -> don't complete the saigo quest -> toba -> witch's hut -> desert -> go wherever you want. You can't "finish" a quest or else you'll get a timeskip but you can kill the termite queen as long as you don't talk to the hunter afterwards. You can fight noel, rocbouquet, or bokhohn (unlike the original where gerard couldn't fight bokhohn)
>>3652830Same as every Saga game.Quirky game that does some interesting things, but is overall held back by some bad or really strange design decisions. Typically a lot of tedium and getting fucked over because of obtuse things.
>>3653055>Typically a lot of tedium and getting fucked over because of obtuse things. This has never happened to me in any SaGa game before so no
>>3653066It has, you just disregard it. Saga games frequently either poorly explain or don't explain at all relevant things.
>>3653074This one explains a lot of things
>>3653079It also simplifies the base game. Which just proves my point that the series is obtuse and complicated.
>>3653084>simplifiesThe added mechanics make it more complex. It's just less obtuse.
>>3653084>Which just proves my point that the series is obtuse and complicated.
Saga isn't really complicated, none of its battles really require forward planning and most of your ability pools are functionally identical vertical upgrades akin to a final fantasy game. It's more like a lot of garbage to create the illusion of depth, which goes to show square combat is fundamentally rotten and poorly designed. Also, while gameplay varies between titles, it's very video gamey and I have yet to play any saga game which attempts to capture anything remotely similar to the feeling of the kind of adventure you'd have in a tabletop rpg or a even just a crpg. Like the scenario design is just bad.
>>3653108This hasn't really reflected my experience with any of the games, but I've also seen this exact wording appear in SaGa threads before so I'm wondering if it's just one person saying this.
>>3653112Perhaps you can quote the post then because I've never posted in a saga thread before. Like there's no element of resource management and it encourages you to game tech growth, you would never play a tabletop rpg like this. It would never work on paper. So in this way it's kind of tactical and puzzle-y, but the problem is Japan is really, really bad at making those types of games and it winds up feeling like something for toddlers. Like this isn't even in the realm of rpgs any more, this is wargames, and it's pretty simple for a wargame.
>>3653079Grinding to master abilities is the shittiest and shallowest kind of skill progression, so not exactly something to flaunt.
>>3653108>none of its battles really require forward planning and most of your ability pools are functionally identical vertical upgrades>the scenario design is just badYou couldn't have been more wrong if you tried.>while gameplay varies between titles, it's very video gamey Wow, a video game is video gamey, what a shocker.
>>3653124>You couldn't have been more wrong if you triedWhich battle requires preparation beforehand? What scenario would you describe as good? Like there's that metaphor dungeon where you have to sneak around and there's a whole thing to get a secret item where you discover a secret passage, get a key, fight an optional boss, and deduce that it manipulates a statue to open a new optional path way. I would consider this a bad dungeon and the absolute minimum. SaGa doesn't ever do things like this at all.
>>3653126>there's that metaphor dungeonAnd this is where I must bid you adieu, try being a little less obvious next time.
Didn't this just get remade a few years ago?
>>3653144There was a 2d "remaster" that came west in 2016, this is a full 3d remake
>>3653138So nothing then.
>>3653126>SaGa doesn't ever do things like this at all.Have you actually played a single game in the series before? You'd know you're 100% utterly wrong but your whole posts are disingenuous so I don't think it even warrants serious replies
>>3653161You'll happily and smugly reply to the retard who doesn't know what he's talking about. You're saying things like>your whole posts are disingenuous so I don't think it even warrants serious repliesBecause you're an idiot and you don't have an answer. I'm only in here because I've noticed every time saga and metal max get bumped the board becomes complete garbage. I could care less about whatever retarded shit you're doing in here, but I know plenty about these awful games.
Would be fun if there was more you could do in actually managing/utilising the power of your Empire, instead of it just being in the background while you do your JRPG adventuring. Not an actual complaint since this was a remake of an existing game, there's no place to really utilise that sort of gameplay unless they changed things alot more.Picture Unrelated
>>3653167>but I know plenty about these awful games. You clearly don't
Why does every enemy seem to be blasting Pheromones by near the end game. They trying to turn this into a hentai monster rpg or what.
>>3653182For me, it was Hell Claw spam
>>3652999Yeah, he will assimilate the Narwhal if you take too long.
>>3653182That is one of the flaws of endgame, enemies will heavily rely on Charm spamming.
What carries over in NG+ for the remake.Heard the unlocked difficulties are pretty brutal, and you need to be prepared before going into them.
>>3653212
>>3652858>abdicaited to make the Doll my emperor nowBit sad what results from that. Normally Coppelia persists between generations but if you make her an Empress and she "Becomes a Real Girl" then she dies off after one and you find her unmoving broken body tossed in the corrner of some store room in the castle without a care. Is there something insidious and draining about the Inheritance magic beyond just game mechanics, same way that if you have a regular character abdicate it treats them as having died off and skips to the next member of their class at the tavern even though everyone else is the same...
>>3653202What's the method for encountering him earlier than the Storm event? Can't remember it for him.
Didn't imagine so many people would buy and play this gameNot even Kawazu's friends played Emerald Beyond and the gacha is dead
>>3653678I didn't like the player characters on display for Emerald, none of them grabbed me like Alkaizer and I can't fucking stand 'Vampire' dudes.
>>3653103Unfortunately true
>>3652830Basically, it's shit. The usual mechanics and progression are dumbed down and gated in stupid ways. The combat is made simpler, flashier and railroaded into abusing random nonsensical weaknesses and OD, you're not winning without it now. Other mechanics like debuffs and status effects got gutted with shitty grind to master (that has no place in SaGa) class abilities shoved in to restore them to previous level. Atrocious Skyrim markers shoved in your face at every step so you always know where the quests are and where you need to go instead of having to actually read the dialogue and figure it out yourself.
Best party members for taking on in the final dungeon/post-game?
It's sentimental but I did enjoy the little photos of the various characters going about their lives during the credits. Such a glimpse is nice to see since otherwise the core of the game is built on it being an interpersonal battle over generations of the Empire with your party members just being interchangable members of their class to fill slots.
>>3653677Sadly, you can only find him through the Storm event and defeating Garon in the Shipwreck, you just need to clear the South Longit quests quicker to trigger it.

Kinda wish it had launched when the demo did but it can't be helped.I'll be able to really get stuck in towards the end of Nov/Dec at least. The music's great, hard to believe we got treated to both this and EB this year.
>>3653927Man this is genuinely disgusting.

>>3654281It's why Emerald Beyond is BASED for saying mixing cultures is bad. Get those science fag symbols out of President Not-Trump's Capitol City
is this like an okay starting point for the series?
>>3654694No, but it's a serviceable standalone game.
>>3654694The RS2 remake is easily the best starting point for the series. Even before the remake, RS2 was arguably the best place to start.
What's y'all's take on this post about the remake from /v/, any merit to it? Any old grizzled sagafag who could chime in?>This remake was specifically made for people who don't like SaGa, which is why it was hypercasualized and most of SaGa's signature design choices and mechanics were removed, subverted or defanged to the point of being there in name only in the rare case they survived.>Honestly it's scary how this game does so much dumb shit Kawazu was warning people about barely over a year before it came out.
>>3655124>y'all's
>>3655124The post you quoted is from a schizo that has constantly been shitposting about this game in almost every thread since before it came out. In prior threads he attempted to compare it to the original RS2 but was factually incorrect about many of the original game's mechanics, suggesting that he is merely posing as an oldfag. He has also admitted to posting on discord. As for the substance of the quote is it totally wrong. The remake builds on the design of the original game and fans of the original RS2 are the ones most happy with this remake. The most charitable interpretation I can make of the schizo's ramblings is that he wanted it to be more like Emerald Beyond rather than being true to the original RS2. But that is probably too generous, he is simply insane.
>>3655124Both threads here and there are just a discord raid apparently.
>>3655142The guy seems to be a little obsessed with Octopath Traveler and how apparently half the systems in the remake, including the combat as a whole, got lifted from OT becase that's what sells with the normies and not SaGa. His words, not mine.>>3655151I can't even imagine this level of mental illness.
>>3655124He’s right unfortunately. Just play the original, or if you must, the remaster that came out few years ago.
>>3655228>or if you mustDon't be such a wanker.
>>3655228Where do you get off being a thoughtless contrarian? Go back to /v/ with your shallow reactionary bullshit.
What does Noel go if I ask him nicely to fuck off?
Tried to do the Mermaid quest with Gerard and got a timeskip at the mines. Guess I fought too many enemies.
I just realized that because of save file fuckery i forgot to visit the garden after building it, so i went a full generation without checking there. Will this screw me over in the future?>>3654167Qu Magis really should have been a recruitable, Delta Base only having Administrator Gold despite being such a long world was a poor decision. I get Bean not being an option because he shares a body type with Minstrel.
>>3653677The Heroes will trigger their 2nd Forms regardless after the 4th Hero is killed. If you want to fight Subier in his first form you need to have enough time pass to get the ghost ship to appear before you kill your 4th Hero. 6 generations worth of time (190-200 years) after you finish the initial Corsair quest is needed to get the rebellion the next generation and then pass 6 more generations to get the ghost ship quest to appear.>>3655438He will return to the same spot after you kill Rocbouquet unless she is the 6th hero you kill.

>>3653212Expert is way, WAY easier than Hard.
>>3655124that take came from a dicksword faggot who posts nonstop in /v/ saga 2 threads (he is here too you can see his posts already). unfortunately people there can't stop giving him (you)s so he never stopsnever take him seriously and you shouldn't too when nigger unironically thinks able to switch your party in town is a bad design because you had to LP kill them in original which is the """good""" designthe easy way to notice his posts is if he starts yapping about remake le bad while dicksucking emerald beyond or unlimited saga 95% chance its him
an interesting detail; you can see the emperor inherit memories of your encounters during his or her time.
>>3655773>starts yapping about remake le bad while dicksucking emerald beyond or unlimited sagaIt’s really quite ironic you say that, considering Unlimited is a game where Kawazu was given full creative freedom to make exactly the game he wanted to make, and this on the other hand is a game that takes Kawazu’s original vision and alters it significantly without his input. This remake seems like a good game on its own merits from what I’ve seen, and I’m looking forward to playing it when it goes on sale, but it’s obvious that the main target audience is not old time fans of Saga and Kawazu.
>>3656080Is it really changed all that much? The stuff that makes the biggest difference are QoL features that I don't think anyone sane would find objectionable.
>>3656080>this on the other hand is a game that takes Kawazu’s original vision and alters it significantly without his inputLike the anon above said, most of the changes are non-intrusive and fairly welcome. The vision is still there and nothing that makes it a SaGa game was removed. While yes, on top of the much needed QoL there's also some debatably unnecessary fluff in the form of the passive class abilities and the revamped combat, and the guidance with the minimap and quest markers is a little handholdy (you can turn it off though which is a plus), it only builds on top of what was already there without sacrificing any of the core concepts.>it’s obvious that the main target audience is not old time fans of Saga and KawazuThis couldn't be further from the truth too, while I can agree that RS2 specifically was chosen because it's one of the most, if not the most, approachable SaGa games, it still is a love letter to the fans as much as it is an attempt to gather new players.
>>3655773nta but Unlimited Saga is really great. My main gripes with it are that outside of a few campaigns (like Armic's) it's far too linear, some of its skills are too unbalanced and magic is a chore to learn (and honestly pretty niche). Outside of that it has the best character building and dungeons out of all SaGa games by far.I suggest you try it out before maliciously shitposting about it.
>>3656096The remake significantly changed it though, you don't have to be sagafag to see that. The sole fact that you have an AoE healing spell directly contradicts the original design philosophy of focusing on one's defensive options as you weren't able to degenerate in these FF-esque healing loops, not to mention those bloated damage and HP values you'd only ever see in trash like aabeta. And the by far biggest shortcoming of RS2, its lackluster dungeons, got no revamping whatsoever.RS2 was also chosen because it's very popular and due to its timeless inheritance mechanics, not because the original was approachable, far from it. The only reason why newfags even managed to beat the remaster was because they kept that new dungeon from the 2011 phone version which gave access to all kinds of ridiculously powerful gear and formation.
>>3656089look in the previous threads. They changed the entire weakness system
>>3656132Is it meaningfully changed or does it result in mostly the same experience?
>>3656134Is flipping the entire combat on its head and railroading you into just spamming the weaknesses, as well as giving you free access to an AoE healing spell that usually do not exist in the rest of the series and go against the original combat design a meaningful enough change for you?
>>3654694Minstrel Song is better

Can you still fight the sorcerer at Comroon if you get there super early?
How does the game treat different Emperors in the same generation? If i do an important quest as one, adbidcate and then do another, will they both show up listed or does the latter Emperor just take all the credit?
>>3656144She's good at being cute. She's a bit better as a caster but is in an awkward spot where it's likely you get her long after other better characters that do the same thing but with more upsides. Her passive ability is pretty nice on tanks at least but she's probably gonna hit the bench after. I kept her for a whole gen but had a hard time justifying her after.
Expert is so boring it kind of ruined the game for me. My time would have been better spent on a fresh replay. The NG+ options suck and I wish we could pick what to carry over.

>>3656767If you didn't make peace with Noel then don't do him last. Otherwise it's whatever.Maybe Subier because his "dungeon" is a load of nothing.
>>3656769I made peace with him but just killed Roc for the last territory. IIRC that lets you go back and fight him.
>>3656767Subier has sources of Mighty Helms if you didnt get them from WagnasBeating Noel is required for the Melu Desert quizzes. You can fight him if you returb after killing his sister. >>3657685You'll get them later, just wait a few generations. Or if you have the right kind of emperor you can do some bullshit to get them early.
The final fight was... surprisingly easy. People in the early threads were getting filtered left and right, I guess it was just the typical rushers that were surprised of getting rekt while playing on the highest difficulty.Admittedly I had 60 hours when I reached it, but I never really grinded, just did everything I could. Then I absolutely rotflstomped the dread queen, that fucking 2x overdrive damage is insane.Anyway it was a fantastic game, a true hidden gem for me.
Romancing SaGa 2 was always the best SaGa game. Remaking it and dumbing it down a little plus those QoL features for mass appeal was a surprisingly smart move from Square Enix especially since this cost much less than their retarded AAA projects

I don't like denuvo :cToday I had a chance to play an hour of RS2 while travellin' but I was a little late so I didn't get the chance to launch it at home, not a problem, I played it a couple days ago.Nope. I played it on my PC a couple days ago, I didn't have a valid ticket for denuvo this week so couldn't play.Screw you square-enix! SHIT SQUARE ENIX! AHHHHGonna make up for it by playing 4 hours tonight. That'll show 'em.
>>3661316Okay but Earthbound and Chrono Trigger actually are pretty good though.
>>3661440for people who literally do not like jrpgs and instead like everything tertiary to jrps, i guessbut for someone who actually likes jrpgs for jrpgs themselves, those are literally the worst jrpgs of all time, even absolute trash tier jrpgs like beyond the beyond and secret of the stars are still more engaging and deep than earthbound and chrono trigger
>>3655124there's little point in playing anything BUT remake in this case. unlike all remakes it adds to every aspect of the game. even if someone is inclined towards playing the remaster they should keep in mind it's still a SNES game with a facelift.
>>3661481this is an awful take. reporting you for being a retard. mods crush his skull thank you.
>>3661481Okay dude, enjoy being a brainless contrarian I guess.
>>3661508>you have to covet my favorite dogshit puddle deep babby's first pseudo jrpg that i wasn't even alive for when it released or else you're a contrariangod i fucking hate you zoomers so fucking much it's unreal, and unlike you i actually played them both, and ON RELEASE at that, they're shit games for retarded faggots
Started off as a 9/10, became a 7/10 by the middle, by the end it felt like a 6/10. Good ideas, shallow execution.
>>3661556>shallow executionhow so
