What's the best way to play BG1? I was looking at EE mods and it's seems like most of the mods are just restorations of the original features. So why not just play the original with gemrb? Also any mod suggestions? I don't want anything adding more content but graphical and ui enchantments would be nice.
A lot of people already played BG1 on the BG2 engine with tutu. If you want the original BG1, with the BG1 engine quirks, then play that version, as no amount of mods will give you that experience.
What's with people taking pride in being complete casual morons that can't even Google anything these days? >hello sorry everyone I'm a casual moron can everyone please hold my hand and walk me through this basic task? This cult of weakness is really getting tiring. You have idiots that are pretending to be new now just for some (You)s. It's like I'm really on reddit. This is new thread format is the most atrocious thing I have ever seen.
>>3653920EE is infinitely better for modern PCs on a technical level, you just need a few mods to unfuck Beamdog's lack of talent at making video games.>no beamdog NPCs>old cinematics>one of the improved UI mods>maybe a better world map, the absolute lack of roads triggers my autismI think that's it, the rest of the mods are up to your taste. My personal recommendations are >BG1 NPC ProjectMakes your companions much more interesting. >Endless BG1Allows you to keep playing after finishing the main quest and move to BG2 whenever you wish. Either to complete Durlag's Tower and the werewolf island when it makes the most sense, or to install Trilogy and skip Beamdog's DLC - the modders who implemented Trilogy for EE are cucks who want to make you play it.
>>3653931The EE is not BG1, it's bg2 with bg1's map. It's like telling someone to play black mesa over half life 1.
>>3653938Mechanically BG2 plays vastly better than BG1, and if the person has any intention of directly continuing into BG2, the transition will be smoother and you won't have to deal with the restrictions it brings because of the overly simplistic baseline of BG1.Unless it was changed in some official patch than I don't know of, you for example couldn't choose a sub-class in 2 for your imported protag because they didn't exist in BG1. Which outright gives you less choice.
>>3653960>Mechanically BG2 plays vastly better than BG1Funnily enough it actually doesn't, and BG1 had some superior quirks that makes things like resting actually make sense instead of being broken super weapons
>>3653924>This cultyes and everything you dont like is humiliation ritual, you room temperature iq spastic
>>3653924Younger people have easy access to tech, but are just really computer illiterate and bad at google, they need exacting directions to do anything. I remember when I was a kid everyone assumed later generations would just adapt to computers naturally. lol, that didn't happen because most people are actually just dumb.
>>3654004Not just that, but the Internet has also adapted with varied and informative websites dying out and search engines artificially limiting results even further to corral the cattle into directions the corps want. That anon is living in the past, at least 15 years ago. I get that, I make this mistake often too, but by now it's obvious that gen z are not only underdeveloped illiterates but also have the odds stacked against them.
>>3654000https://lilura1.blogspot.com/2024/01/Reddit-RPG-Games-and-RPG-Game-Remakes.html>Starting a topic in which the OP pretends to have finally beaten a game after 20 years of playing it on and off (a commonly parroted fake-scenario on subreddits, where being a proud giga-casual is in-vogue).This list is becoming like bingo. The quality of discussion has really gone down here. It's very depressing.
>>3654195>the Internet has also adapted with varied and informative websites dying out and search engines artificially limiting results even further to corral the cattle into directions the corps wantNo it doesn't. AI even searches for you now, it's an insanely easy to find any information you want with like 20 sources attached to it. There is no excuse for ignorance.
>>3653920>What's the best way to play BG1? Buy the EEs on GOG because that’s the only way to legally get the original games and then play those
>>3654201>AI even searches for you now, it's an insanely easy to find any information you want with like 20 sources attached to it, as long as you only want to read Jewish propaganda from carefully curated sources to prevent wrongthink, and half of it will probably be wrong or inapplicable, because LLMs are a scam
>>3654307>Jewish propagandaIt's third worlder propaganda actually.https://youtu.be/AzKsVxiSu_MFor example, slavs raiding the board and trying to dissuade people from pursuing actual sources of information while running counter-narratives to construct an illusory clown world where the games they like magically aren't shit somehow. I'm sure they'd love for everyone to be dumb, helpless, and ignorant.
>>3653960I'm pretty sure that isn't true and that if you import an original BG character into 2, you get to choose a kit if there's a valid one for your character, as well as reset your proficiencies.
>>3654305I'd rather just PM him the links to images of my CDs. They're abandonware so it's okay.
>>3654314>slavs#NotAllSlavs
Where does the "you can't buy the original game" delusion come from? 2 seconds on amazondotcom shows that the entire saga is 13 bucks on DVD.
>>3653920Just either play the OG version or the enhanced edition (just ignore the obvious addon companions with shitty va and artstyle breaking portraits)either way I don't really reccomend mods for a first time playthrough.
>>3654328Resellers selling old copies. I doubt they’re still pressing new copies. Beamdog made all the online storefronts stop selling the originals once the EEs came out, save for GOG and only as a bundled extra if you bought the EEs
>>3654328I don't think most people even have DVD drives anymore. Just pirate that shit.
>>3654369Of course, there's nothing wrong with pirating a 20 year old game. I'm just saying, if you care enough about buying a 20 year old game and you don't have an external bluray or DVD drive to plug into your PC, what are you even doing.
>>3654461I mean, why can't they just sell the original digitally anyway?
>>3654462>I mean, why can't they just sell the original digitally anyway?Beamdog bribed/complained/asked them nicely to pull them to increase the sales of the EEs/help them avoid looking bad when people wanted to buy the originals instead of their slopInterpret according to taste
>>3654464So their edition was so poorly enhanced that they still feared competing with the OG version? Damn.
>>3654314i have spoken only truth aboput you whore grandmother and thief grandfather
>>3654576>whore grandmother and thief grandfatheris this a common cygan insult?
>>3653920I decided to try BG2 again>install all 4 discs>install core fixes from fixpack>spend 30 minutes on character creation>intro begins>a guy runs in, bursts in to flames, and>crash>google is unhelpful>well fick what can i do>uninstall fix pack>no crashGods, what is this, bad luck? I guess I'm playing without fixes then
>>3653924i hope i never get as jaded as this guy
>>3656597Have you tried different versions of the thing? And has crash log been of any help? Can there be compatibility issues (check fixpack's readme)? v1.0 worked always fine for me.
>>3653920Real BG1 is very significantly different from TuTu or BG1EE, but I wouldn't risk a new player bouncing off of it by recommending they play it first.Definitely recommend the OG BG1 for the second playthrough though. EE makes everything homogenous to a fault, and BG1 just makes more sense as a game with the old weapon proficiencies/limited spell list/lack of dual wielding. The situation is analogous to Yakuza Kiwami imo.
>>3656597Install official patches first, then the fixpack afterwards.
>>3656643>Real BG1 is very significantly different from TuTuI have played Tutu or BGT so many times that I barely even remember the BG1 engine, probably haven't tried it since BG1 came out. I'll definitely be giving it a go next time I feel like replaying.
>>3656660He's exaggerating how different it is. But you will find that the graphics, movement speed, some spell effects are different. If you like to play ironman, note ahead of time the spell duration of things like Dire Charm or you are in for a bad time.
>>3654328The only place to buy it new is through GoG, but only if you buy the EE, so that's even worse.
>>3654328>>3654369They're CDs, you plebs.
>>3656597I know. The OG game works perfectly fine. In fact, I prefer the version coming straight off the CDs, no fixpack. The only functionality you lose is importing characters during a playthrough. The base SoA game is infinitely better balanced because you don't get access to those super OP items from the merchants.
>>3657033Real OGs still own a russian bootleg copy
>>3657035The absolute state of this board. This anon is too lazy to even look up what he's talking about, but is confident enough in his ignorance to attempt to be a pedant. No, the edition you can easily purchase online is most definitely on DVD.
>>3656910If he does then not by much. Having most things fit into broader categories of "large sword", "spiked weapons", "blunt weapons" makes it play very differently for warrior types. Aside from the movement speed and things like spell durations and saves you've mentioned.
>>3653920I got my old windows XP PC setup up and running, so now I'm getting comfy playing BG2.About inventory management: will I get by just fine if I sell these scrolls, consumables, misc items?
>>3658040Depends on what classes are in your party. I think only gems can be safely sold unless you have mods that use them for some quests. Been some time since I've played anything but BGT with mods.
>>3658040Depends what they are. Strength potions are useful for when you need to carry a body. Any potion that nullifies magic in any way is incredibly good.
>>3658040Consumables are always worth using, especially in BG2, I'll never understand why everybody seems to be deathly afraid to do so and either hoards them or sells themLike what the fuck
>>3658304STR potion + heroism + haste + potion of defense/invulnerability on any fighter type and you can solo a bunch of early shit
>>3658312>either hoards them or sells themLiterally me, love that shit
>>3658315You're a faggot
>>3653938>It's like telling someone to play black mesa over half life 1.That's dishonest. Black Mesa makes radical changes. It's not an actual remake in a new engine. It's a very different game that tries to retell the same story. You cannot compare this to Enhanced Edition.
>>3653920>What's the best way to play BG1?The NWN 2 module.
>>3658331>You cannot compare this to Enhanced EditionIt’s also using a different engineand makes radical changesand tries to tell a different storyWhat now, anon?
>>3653920>WEIDU.It merges the games. >The Gibberlings Three Widescreen ModDoes what it says. The best thing about playing the original over EE, is the frame-rate slider in the launcher settings. It effectively lets you speed up the game. Since it's real time with pause, it basically means you can up the framerate to the point where everyone walks around like they're wearing boots of speed
>>3658313Haste potions are crazy good. It always feels like a waste to use them just for the extra attack and not for the bonus kiting ability though, so I often horde them.
>>3658312>I'll never understand why everybody seems to be deathly afraid to do so and either hoards them or sells themI'm playing for the first time, so I was a bit overwhelmed. I got no absolutely no clue about how limited items are and will there be roadblock encounters where I need stuff. Also I got a broken sword in my inventory, dunno if it's trash or what. But I'm getting the hang of it. I found out my companions actually have useful spells available, so I don't need to hoard every scroll.I read about class recommendations, rerolled a Fighter-Thief character, but then got second thoughts, and went back to my Berserker and dual classed him into a Thief.I'm content so far, but I have a sneaking suspicion I'll start thinking about making a mage character soon..
>>3658868>Also I got a broken sword in my inventory, dunno if it's trash or what. There is a crisis in the region with iron being brittle and weak. There is a small chance for non-magical weapons to break and become useless each time you swing them. Magical weapons aren’t affected.Your mages can learn spells from scrolls (random chance affected by intelligence) so you want at least one copy per mage. After that you can either use them for free magic or sell them. Keep an eye out for scrolls of spells that your casters can’t cast themselves those are much more valuable and rare. Notable ones would be protection from magic and protection from undead.
