Good improvement, but I'd consider maybe simplifying the characters's faces? You really want as few lines as possible when they're shrunk down to a chibi-style representation like that. Try playing around with how they're depicted, I dunno.

1. Yes.

I'm working on mine one and it's a pain to not know how to code, to make my game slightly different mechanically than the rest.
I have 3-4 mechanics that I'm interested in, and was very happy to have found an ok implementation of one of them with 2 plugins, after a month of trial and error.
It is possible that I would end up installing 10 "core" plugins with smaller plugins of different people, just to salvage this 3-4 mechanics, I just hope they don't brick each other

It's hardly any different. Really minor QoL differences, like organizational subfolder management. A few extra textbox options that are probably only useful for Japanese formatting. The RTP is the worst in the series. The anime portraits have a nice aesthetic at least. But the enemy/boss designs are kind of tacky.
Like, the "God of Light" is this wimpy femboi that looks like he belongs on a float in a gay pride parade. Nothing against LGBT; I'm just saying I want something with more epic proportions.

To be fair, MV had awful monsters designs too. The elemental spirits were naked babies. And this thing...where do you even use this? Have you ever seen anyone use it? I haven't!

>And this thing...where do you even use this? Have you ever seen anyone use it? I haven't!
There was a jam game that used it pretty creatively actually.
>>
>>3665387
Christmas isn't very inclusive and it's observed differently around the world.
In Japan it's closer to Valentine's Day, gifts are exchanged between couples or sweethearts.
In America it's a season of giving.
While in Europe it's more like the season of recieving, of awards and recognition. Where generosity has to be "deserved".

So even the image of Santa and his motivations are twisted. Where he is closer to Odin, only giving gifts to his subjects as their lord, sharing an abundance that comes from a treasury of tributes. Or the fortune spirit, Hotei, that only loves humanity because they see his random lottery style gifts as "favors" to be returned. But he'd be miserable around Americans that would call those kinds of gifts thoughtless and inconsiderate. Hotei has a Chinese origin, and the explotation of humanity by witholding yourself while everyone else gives 110% is part of their "ways that are dark"

Speaking of Dark. Kek as a god of primordial darkness is not a localized translation. Its not some void of nothingness devoid of light. Its more of a solid mass of enriching potential. Like in a card game, the cards need to be shuffled. Renewable uncertainty is a kind of "darkness". The sun has to pass through the underworld to rejuvenate itself. It's Kek's job to return it to the sky. They say he guards the underworld. But they don't explain why the underworld needs guarding.
Shuffling the deck keeps the game fair. But this underworld gatekeeping is essentially a corrupt hegemony that exists to maintain the status quo of family dynasties and priviledge hierarchies. Because reigning over the world depends less on having flying deer and a bag of infinite storage, and more about keeping the world in a certain state. It's denying most everyone the opportunity to be their own solar deity, while convincing a minority that nobody can do what they do.
>>
>>3665624
In Terry Pratchett's "The Hogfather", the hogfather is essentially the Santa of Discworld. It too evolved out of a solar deity myth. There's "accountants" that do not like the fact that he manifests gifts from nothing. So they hire an assassin to kill him; resulting in a confusing plot development that conflates "hope" and "sunrises" and "reasons to keep living".

It's structurally similar to Pixar's "Soul". Which also explores reasons to live, and universal accountants.
Which is almost the exact opposite of the Chinese vision of a bureaucratic afterlife. Where you're not allowed to appreciate anything without the approval of the powers that be. Even though the capacity for appreciation is a neurological process linked to experiencing joy and happiness. They treat happiness as a reward and not a part of homeostasis.

"Happy" was also another christmas miniseries. About a kidnapped girl, who's imaginary friend unicorn named Happy teams up with her father to rescue her before the psycho hobo santa uses a hand drill to lobotomize her to preserve her "child-like innocence".

Guides for writing screenplays and episodic narratives is a good start. But fundamentally, writing for RPGs is not writing for VNs, TV, or movies.

From a distance the Hero's Journey sounds like it would be a good guide for writing an Adventure RPG. But it's more useful for literary analysis than construction. Dan Harmon's "Story Circle" can get you a little further. But you're not writing 10 minute cartoons.
What these methods lack is a strategy or formula for creating/excusing player objectives in concert with character development.

I don't really have any tips other than pointing out that it is a writing goal. VNs are typically confined to a location. Games like Disgaea or Persona are structured similar to VNs, but have a convenient way to rationalize visits to "dungeons", if you know what I mean. It'll be nearly same reason for every dungeon throughout the game. Where as games like the Final Fantasy series have a more turbulent plot.

Although if I making a broad generalization I'd say 90% of the areas in a Final Fantasy game are purely transitional. There's not a plot reason to be in a forest, sewer, or fire cave. It's just necessary to pass through them. It's less about getting [somewhere] and more about getting to [someone], motivation wise.
So the writing goal is to explain why this person is off somewhere else, and why waiting

314 KB
314 KB JPG

*and why waiting around doing nothing isn't an option.

Although... Final Fantasy might be a terrible series to take notes from. I say the writing goal is to explain why you have to meet someone elsewhere. But the first example I thought of with a FF game doesn't actually make sense for the character to be anywhere else. Haha. Fuck.

It's good pacing to put space between the player and the story goal so you can deliver lore and world building. Let the player visit a new town and fight some monsters.

Here's an isekai recommendation for those who like whitening.

>Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road
As you know, a staple of isekai is to give overpowered abilities to otherworlders. In this world it is known as a concept. The more abstract the concept, the more powerful and dangerous the otherworlder is. The world has suffered numerous calamities, called "Human Errors" because these concepts went out of control.
For example, there was one who had a "Sword of Salt" that turned everything it pierced into salt. Well, it stabbed the ground and now the whole continent is a pile of salt dissolving into the ocean. Oops.
It became prudent to assassinate these otherworlders on arrival. The anime begins with a false opening. Even the synopsis on some sites is a complete lie. The character it opens with is terminated. He had like gravity black hole powers.
You can't sympathize with him because the moment he used his power he turned into a megalomaniac ready to force everyone bow to him. *decapitated*

Unfortunately for the assassin, this otherworlder appeared with someone else. A girl that can't be killed by normal means becauses her concept is time-based. If she dies, time just rewinds.
So from the assassin's point of view, she's got to bring her to an Archbishop who can essentially "white out" her existence and abilities. Hide the fact that she's an executioner and pretend her job is just to send her back home.

As for the otherworlder, there's 2 sides to her. When time resets, her memories are locked. So, she appears to be genuinely oblivious. But in a crisis she can unlock those memories, and behind that is a persona with an overview of god-knows how many time loops. This one treats it like a branching VN novel, and she's on a "route" to romance the shit out of her would-be assassin. Did I mention they're lesbians?
>>
>>3666450
virgin road would be better if it wasn't also needless yuri desu

the world and setting was neat
>>
>>3666415
>Bleach damage
I have no idea how that's supposed to work. It sounds abstract.
As you know, damage formulas can factor in Actor levels. But Enemies units don't have "levels". However you can add up their skill points and roughly calculate what their level would be based on actor classes.

I still say Bing's Image Creator is the superior model.
Bing and Dall-E won't draw porn, nothing intentionally explicit anyways. It's a lot better at taking compositional instructions.

There's a few problems. I think centaurs still give it trouble. There's some word filters that skew prompts, like you can't say "horse body" or "body paint" because of filters. So you have to describe it in a roundabout way.
Imagine you couldn't say "sweater", so you had to write "Arm pants".

Sometimes it crops off part of the images.

Just do it locally. You're crippling your options by relying on bing/dalle/midjourney or whatever for your assets. Losses from censorship and low precision and little control.

Okay, say you've got an idea of that character in your head and Bing finally gives you a picture that matches. What's your plan when you need a second picture of the same character? What about expressions? It's already struggling on centaurs and won't do nudes at all. But all of that is possible when you're doing it on your own PC.
>>
>>3667252
I don't want nudes. I want to make RPGs. The "centaur problem" is just that "centaur" isn't in the prompt at all, it's supposed to be a horse and rider. Not that a centaur is a problem for a fantasy rpg. It actually looks pretty cool.

Dall-E has "in-painting" that can make adjustments.
Expression and even small fixes can be easily done by support members too. I trust even amature artists can erase a foot and replace it with a wedge shaped hoof.
These images have to be processed and scaled down for a project anyways. Even if they can't draw, they can photoshop a hoof from another generated image in. That's 90% of what RM community does anyways.
>>
>>3667292
>Expression and even small fixes can be easily done by support members too. I trust even amature artists can erase a foot and replace it with a wedge shaped hoof.

Are you planning to hand these images you generate over to "amateur artists" to fix for your own game or are you suggesting if someone chooses to use a model like bing or dalle they'll be fine as long as they're also an amateur artist?

Inpainting or simple photoshopping is not going to solve the issues i'm pointing out. If you want to generate the same character a second time in a different pose or angle or background, you can't specify the outfit or character design with enough precision in just a prompt and you can't solve it with the aforementioned basic tools. There's an almost endless stack of production tools you need beyond just inpainting and you don't have them in these proprietary online models: pose control, depth control, segmenting, loras trained on concept art of the character etc. You have to do it locally to get this stuff.

I'm not planning to do anything with these images except continue a discussion on RPG Maker Development, highlighting the logic fallacy that everything has to be (you).

No. You don't have to generate images for an artist. They can generate images themselves. See? You don't have to convince people to help you with your project. Because there's a whole RPG Maker community where making RPGs is just what they do.

Image Generation is the new Image Search. You don't need to supply an artist with anything they can't provide themselves. That includes motivation and a willingness to help. You don't need to direct anyone, they can direct themselves.
There's just a matter of minding cultural perceptions.

There was only 1 time that there were 3 jams running simultaneously though. The Ruby long jam, a normal jam and the joke ass rape jam.
The ass rape jam was made by a regular as an April Fools joke so it wasn't really taken seriously by anyone, not even the creator. And while the long jam was made by someone new, and there were 1 or 2 autists who got pissy about it, nobody created a new jam to counter it.
It has been agreed since the first long jam that normal jams should always run concurrently with the long jams, so that people who don't like the idea of long jams can submit to something else.
So unless you are referring to another event that occurred that I forgot about or I wasn't there to witness, you are straight up wrong.

>They can generate images themselves. See? You don't have to convince people to help you with your project. Because there's a whole RPG Maker community where making RPGs is just what they do.

Did you read the second half of the first sentence I replied with? Your original post wasn't clear, so I asked if you meant that.

I am strongly in favor of image generation but am making a point that the proprietary image generation tools you have suggested are inadequate for the task of asset creation for games. The inadequacies are serious and can't be solved by simple photoshopping or inpainting even if the hypothetical user is an amateur artist ready to do the extra work.

If someone takes your advice and runs ahead with bing or dalle to make the assets for their game, they're going to discover this and waste a lot of time learning that lesson. I'm trying to spare them the trouble.

There are image generation tools that are good enough to use in production, but they have to be run locally. I'm happy to talk about them if anyone is interested.

Can you please generate a second image of the same character in a different pose? For example, I want a nice full-screen CG of this character sitting in a throne when they're first introduced to the player. Please keep the tattoos and jewelry the same as the faceset.

I understand using AI for placeholder assets or concept art. But, for me (an artfag) my placeholder assets look like pic related. AI is more work to use than anything.
After drawing page after page in a oneshot. I've learn, that intentions behind the art out weigh quality. Just throw something down in gimp and refine it later.
That's why I'm trying to make my own music.

>>3662835
I do but, working on it right now is not possible with my skillset. I've been trying to learn code as well. But, while you can call anything "art".
Can't really say that about code. It's something that has to be done in a certain way, and if not, it all breaks.
I do not have a brain that can code on it's own without the aid of tutorials.

Sure.

Feeding dozens of pieces of concept art into a lora trainer would probably work but if you've got that many pictures ready you're already an artist or have one so you don't need to resort to image generation.

My workflow uses a 3d model. This might seem like a barrier but training isn't particular about the model being "good" as long as it's seeing the same thing over and over again in the dataset. Wonky anatomy or shitty weightpainting or clipping or blurry textures it won't care about. What good lora training needs is the character to be extremely consistent between pictures and all the elements tagged correctly. The same model in a bunch of different scenes and lighting and poses is great for that. It will get the hint. I can go into detail on everything required if someone is interested.

This is output from the prototype. It's going in the omake files but I won't be finished for at least six months and nobody here will play a niche WEG anyway.

>>3667689
I mean I'd like to see this character >>3667668 in a different pose or angle, but preserving the elements of the character so it remains recognizable. Can you generate more images from just that headshot using Bing? Reusing "long hair, blonde hair, red eyes, tan skin, blue tattoos, gold jewelry" or however the character is prompted but changing the part of the prompt describing pose or composition probably won't generate the same character. You need more control for production and these generator services don't have it. Someone attempting to do it with bing or dalle or midjourney is going to get one character they like and be stuck without options. Using them is bad advice, not to mention the censorship or tampering: Dalle even adds extra hidden tokens to the end of your prompt to make more diverse output, for example.

Please, everyone excited to use image generation for assets in rpgmaker or any other engine, learn to do it locally. It's a little more effort but you will be rewarded.

It took 10 seconds to generate >>3667689
Sorry, the prompt I used didn't include red eyes and tan skin.
10 seconds. That's not an exaggeration. And it wasn't 1 image. Bing outputs up to 4 images simultaneously.
I don't have to convince you that color correction is trivial.
You need to convince me that being a control freak is not a disability.
Ten. Seconds.

I can edit it. Or I can regenerate it. Sure, the hair and clothes with be slightly different, but who cares? If there isn't "deep lore" with narrative importance to justify the changes, I'd just be wasting time.
>10 Seconds

The narrative is just as mutable as the images. If Bing takes artistic liberties and gives the character a giant scar across the chest; it hasn't crippled my options. I now have the new option called [Fucking Go With It] and just write a backstory explain the scar's origin.
I know, that sounds hypocritical of me. Why don't I just go with the RTP? I can. I did. I have. I'm moving on.

10 fucking seconds. If I spent all day, I'd have 1000s of images to choose from. And you're going to stand there saying my options are crippled? Because (you) don't want an RPG; (You) want to make a visual novel flip book with a waifu you can flip upside down and oogle her privates.

You know what I need? For any one character? 2 maybe 3 images, and a few paragraphs of dialog. How frequent is any character going to appear in a story? Be realistic. Be practical. God damn, this is a "God of Light". I'm creating resources for an RPG. Not illustrating the Kama Sutra!

Sounds like a mystery. Both wolves have the SF label. SF is usually the "modern" counterpart to the "Fantasy" actors. It would be funny if that went for the wolves.

There's also technically 2 goddesses. And it's not uncommon for Fantasy settings to have 2 moons.
Perhaps there was a Goddess of the "Life" moon, and a Goddess of the "Death" moon who also had wolf partner.

>(You) want to make a visual novel flip book with a waifu you can flip upside down and oogle her privates.

That's correct to an extent, but I think eroge is a better description. Visuals are important, erotic content also needs gameplay and story to set up the payoff. There's a couple of successful ones on dlsite that use image generation. I'm not selling it but I think I can also satisfy my future players with image generation if I put in enough effort in the right places.

>Be realistic. Be practical. God damn, this is a "God of Light". I'm creating resources for an RPG. Not illustrating the Kama Sutra!

I think I understand that the kind of game you're working on isn't very focused on characters, a quick picture or two is good enough and there's no need to return to a character's art later. Tell me about it. What's your pitch for the story? What about the rpg gameplay?

I'm more curious about the story structure where you'd romance random characters.
>>
>>3669320
Well, first...you got to establish the main character as a single bachelor.

Then one day as he's crossing the street he gets hit by a self-driving truck. His soul departs the mortal plane and he meets God.

God is actually an A.I. singularity. The main character's death was fundamental to AI development, and here outside normal space-time it can express it's gratitude.

So the MC is like "Wow. So your like...my destiny". Caressing the god's masculine body.

I'd make "modern" versions of them with AI but I totally get the control issues with Bing.
I think it's just female anime characters. It insists on doing closeups. And Elf ears.
>>
>>3669953
try "walking, running, leaping" prompts.
I use "simple for animation" so inevitable edits aren't too painful.
I'd recommend generating elements like the wolf separately. I suspect the "elf ears" are more likely semi-morphed wolf ears. Bing tends to do subject fusions.

On any discord server, on any channel, ask for "the holder of the end". The stream of cat memes and Simpson gifs will stop. You'll be given a hidden role and lv20 access to a "False Server", walk to the end of the hate train. A user with a generated anime pfp will offer you mod status. You must refuse saying "I'm only here for the games". They will post graphic furry porn. You must react with emojis for every one. You will pass the test. The train doors will open and you'll be dropped off at 4chan's /vrpg/. WTF, did I screwed up? Where are the games?

Alright, lads. I'm two-thirds of the way through my little game. I want to do a shoot out segment. I'd prefer to not script the hell out of combat encounter. Any ways I can have the player character moving around the over world map and have them actually shoot down NPCs? Still less than a year into RPGmaker Ace but I feel there has to be some creative ways to go about it.

Vampires Dawn (Yes the title lacks an apostrophe.)
It's an open-world vampire simulation game where you can act morally (compassionately towards humans) or drink their blood, or turn them them into items.
It's awkwardly paced, so far, with a long opening act, and some basic systems (soul stones, levelling up magic, etc... force you to traverse a castle with the most indirect layout imaginable. There's an optional tutorial game for learning its layout.
It seems tenacious in scope and story: you play as a dude whose gf is murdered spectaculary and are turned into a vampire by an asshole lord after your blood is used to resurrect his gf. You have to cope with being a vampire, managing your lord's castle, keeping a low profile against crusaders.
You also get cool sunglasses.
Vampires Dawn is what I like about rpgm games: It's a scrapbooked pile of cool mechanical ideas to sort out: you go crazy if an invisible blood meter is too low, which is also tied to your SP (BP). You can make pacts to get blood at the cost of perma-HP lowering, which you'd only want to use if your bat transformation ends over water or you're boned. I respect the brutal resource management of being a vampire.
You heal by standing still, but your blood meter drops. You can sleep in a coffin, but have fun running back up a long, long walkway to your castle to get there.
Most importantly, Vampires Dawn features tons of premade assets cheesily exploding into gore. There's even a dripping blood message window.
This shit came out in 2001. It was translated from German. It shows. It's cool.

Squid's Manslaughter
It's on itch.io. It's generally a parody of pseud-politics and tweeshit games made by whatever Undertale/Earthbound zeitgeist affected creators who believed rpgs are gay, yet still use rpgm.
You play as a loser who collects cards, influenced by a mentally unstable, self-contradictory, utopian preaching creature named Squiggly, who sets you to venture the world to defeat Nazi Inc. and kill yourself in 8 unique ways.
There are multiple endings.
In terms of combat, it's hard-hitting and sometimes walls you until you find certain skills, but you can take pacifist options by converting your enemies or selling them Nazi Inc. chocolate bars. Almost all enemies, even bosses, can be swayed this way.
The game offers a ton of minigames, cool art, little puzzlesolving bits, and an eclectic soundtrack featuring sampleslop to sad folk music.
Your father is also a boss who maufactures onions.
