I actually really loved the last version of YIIK, had 65 hours on my NG+ file. I tried to play the update earlier tonight and the opening movie was cool I totally didn't understand the battle system and started bleeding to death and turned it off. It seems way more complicated and I liked the oldschool simple battle system

I finally beat MOTHER 1 and 3 earlier this year so I've been going down the EarthBoundlikes rabbit hole, found YIIK and just loved it because it reminded me of my life in a lot of ways. So I don't really know anything to compare it to, I've never played Grandia. There seems to be a card system? You have a heart card that's your true health but you have barriers in front of it and so do the enemies. There was some kind of meter on the bottom, there was a wait time and an action time. I honestly have no idea what it was, I'm going to have to seriously try to figure it out tomorrow
