Unicorn overlord > 13 sentinels > Odin Sphere > Muramasa > dragons crown > grim grimoire
>>
For me its
Muramasa > 13 Sentinels > Unicorn Overlord > Odin Sphere > Dragon's Crown > Grim Grimoire
But I really like all of them, pretty much. Really good games. Grim Grimoire is rather boring with its gameplay but I still don't hate it.
>>
Unicorn Overlord is trash. You just watch your units bump into enemy units while holding the speedup and skip buttons, which is then followed by some VN-style cutscenes with girls in skimpy outfits, which is what I assume is what makes you retards place the game on a pedestal.
>>
>>3679870
Do you hate For Emblem too?
>>
13 Sentinels > Odin Sphere > Dragon's Crown >> Unicorn Overlord
Haven't played the rest.
>>
>>3679863
I liked them all except grim grimoire. That game feels kinda half baked.

Just finished unicorn overlord the other day. I got really into it I did not expect to enjoy the game as much as I did. I want more games where I slowly conquer the world and garrison every town mmmph.

I love how the food looks in vanillaware games it's like porn almost.
>>
>>3679942
fire emblem is at least turn based
>>
>>3680232
...so if UO were turn based, you'd like it? That's retarded.
>>
Need some answers to this.
Currently started playing the game 2 days ago at expert (just wanted the hardest difficulty).

Am I supposed to NOT hire any mercenaries at all? The only one I got was a Gryphon Knight because I saw it was a flier and usually on games like this having a flier at early levels is usually good.
But I feel like not hiring any others is kinda hard considering it's the gameplay is kinda trying to counter units vs your enemies.
Is it fine to grind? I just started the quest where you can finally grind but I don't know if that's actually needed.
Can I grind Honor?
>>
>>3680321
Story characters are what you should use for combat. Though you will need to hire a lot of mercs in order to garrison towns. Their aren't nearly enough story characters for that. Just get the cheap mercs.

What difficulty are you playing on? On normal you don't have to worry about counters and just use the op units like the flyers, Knights, sellswords, shaman etc. I rather enjoyed spending time fiddling with equipment to make units as op as possible. Basically you want accessories that boost initiative, ap, and pp. The best strat is to just wipe the enemy with aoe with high initiative units before they can even attack.

You get honor from a lot of shit. Rapport, battles, quests etc so you won't really need to grind. You'll easily be able to promote everyone and upgrade all your units by the end of the game. I liked using 5 units personally and did so the whole game.

I recommend not grinding. The game caps off your exp if your lvl gets to high compared to the enemies. And their are enough liberation, side quest, and main quests to give you plenty of exp. Maybe grind at the very end on the last sigil before the final battle but you'll only need like maybe 2 or 3 goes.

Also be sure to do the quests where you light the animal statues in order and the shrines of anemoi. And the collisuem. You get great weapons and shields that way. And make sure to find all the black market traders they have valuable accessories
>>

>What difficulty are you playing on?
Like I said above. Expert.
It's the reason why I asks the questions. I've just been doing the stuff prior to rescuing Scarlett. Basically I think I'm 1 or 2 optional quests away before getting to the main quest. I actually just opened the auxiliary thing 2 hours ago.
I've been using only recruit weapons because I saw that they give extra EXP. I honestly don't know if I need to get new weapons already as well.
>>
>>3679870
My issue, too. Could've been decent, but the constant skipping makes it unplayable.
>>
What a freaking lineup. Anyone who speaks or read moon know what their reputation is in sunrise land? Because there's no way they're for that much absurdity.
>>
>>3679839
What, no Grand Knight History?
Anyways, I adore the artstyle of Vanillaware games.
>>
>>3681483
I didnt know this existed. Apparently it was Japan exclusive but being a psp game Im sure it got a fan patch at some point.
>>
Can someone teach me or link me to a video on how ap and pp works? I seriously don't get it. I thought it means that you can only do one action per fight. But I keep on seeing my units do multiple attacks per fight so I'm getting confused.

Example Alain.

He only has 1 AP and 1 PP
Fight begins.
He does Lean Edge.
Enemies do their turns.
Teammates do their turns.
Then he does Lean Edge again.

Why?
>>
>>3679839
Unicorn Overlord>Odin Sphere>Muramasa>Grim Grimoire>Dragon's Crown>13 Sentinels

The only one that I didn't care for is 13 Sentinels. The plot didn't interest me, and it didn't seem like the game had anything else going for it.

>>3680321
Mercenaries are cheap, and generally superior to storyline characters (barring those that have unique classes.) There's no reason not to make use of them, and there are several classes that you'll only ever have one of if you're only using storyline characters.

You can grind, but you never need to do so. It's easy to end up over-leveled even without grinding, actually. Honor seems scarce early on, but you'll end up with more than you need eventually.

For me it'd be Dragon's Crown > Odin's Sphere > 13 Sentinels > Unicorn Overlord > Muramasa > Grim Grimoire
>>
Played Odin's Sphere and Muramasa and didn't like them that much
Liked Dragon's Crown more but didn't play much because I tend to be absorbed by grindy games
>>
>>3679839
>Odin Sphere
Too repetitive, didn't really grab me. Shit story.
>Dragon's Crown
Too jank and a visual mess with a full party. It's alright, probably fun with friends.
>Muramasa
Terrible progression, sword forging mechanic blows ass.
>Muramasa cat DLC
Actually pretty good, possibly even better if you skip the main game, but I have no way of knowing.
>the rest
Didn't play, no interest.
>>
>>3682800
Okay nevermind, Grand Knights History actually looks neat, so I might try that as well at some point.
Also should probably clarify that I only played DC as the elf, maybe the others are less jank.

It's a compromise to have you actually command large groups of units (i.e. armies) and putting a greater emphasis on team compositions, gear and skills to turn groups of characters intro strong groups of units.

Playing something like Tactics Ogre, Triangle Strategy or even Fire Emblem where you only have a handful of characters represent armies is silly.
>>
>>3681675
Active skills and passive skills.
Active skills use active points, passive skills use passive points.
If a character gets their turn and can do an active skill, they will consume active points cost and perform the active skill.
If a condition for a passive skill to trigger happens and you have enough passive points, it will activate.

Some passives and actives can give back active or passive points (they say so in their descriptions).

This is also why it's good to set priorities and conditions for certain moves so they don't trigger when you don't want them to.
Might be hard to know in the beginning, but you will notice situations where you might not have wanted a certain active/passive skill to activate. Like wasting a passive heal point when a character barely got damaged.

It's a goddamn travesty Muramasa DLC is still stuck on the Vita.

GKH was sadly Jap-only. Fan translation of a PSP game might as well not exist for most people.
>>
>>3679839
I just wish the 13 Sentinels GAME part was better. Mystery and characters are great, but I twinge whenever I know a mecha part is coming.

>GKH was sadly Jap-only. Fan translation of a PSP game might as well not exist for most people.
There was a spiritual successor released.

I'm sure it's emulatable at this point.

I would place UO at last. I really don't get the appeal.
The art is good but the character design is bland. Their personalities every extremely boring and the story is as generic as it gets.
>>
>>3680321
>>3680329
there is no difference between story characters and mercenaries. If anything, since you can choose the growth type, mercenaries can end up better.
So it's up to you. I wanted a ton of shamans so I hired a bunch.
>>
>>3679839
>Unicorn overlord
I'm playing it right now. Difficulty is just right on expert, which does enough to keep me engaged for the time being
just wish the game had class changes so you could do all sorts of shenanigans involving skills that carry over, but I guess that would have been too difficult to do in terms of sprite work
right now I'm using a lot of mercenaries because I have this problem where I seem to no longer be able to enjoy characters I haven't made myself—really limits your options when it comes to finding new JRPGs to play
>>
>>3680303
not that anon but even with the autobattler combat (which I found pretty fun), the bump system and movement overall just felt off. My guess is that they knew it's a pain to start-pause-start your fast units and figured no one would use a node system, so they made the range to swap units stupidly large. But then it just becomes these super large hot zones instead of leaning into either the fixed-positioning of turn based rpgs or the movement microing of rts. I don't think it even had to be grid based, even a free movement + AP system would have given it some more weight

Odin > Muramasa >>> Unicorn > Grim
If Grim had a PC port I'd be all over it
Need to play Mura on the PSP
Still never got around to DC since it felt like I needed friends and 13 Sentinels has negative appeal to me
>>

>Unicorn overlord
>on top
its bad boring barerly a agme saved only by waifus and art design

Op here. I just finished the grim grimoire remake and I think I'd actually put it a little above dragons crown (which I played single player and wasn't that great an experience). But definitely not above muramasa. The little art descriptions between chapters add some light character building and much needed slice of life. And the progression system and bonus missions do a lot to spice up gameplay. Which also felt better this time around for me than it was on the ps2. I like that the final mission is just an all out brawl it was a lot of fun. Wish more of the game was like that.

Also one thing I'd like to note about unicorn overlord that no one has brought up are the super quick load times it has. Wish more games where like this. It made zip zooming around the map so much better. Playing fire emblem engage after this was quite the stark contrast as that game has some really long loading times.
>>
I only played Unicorn and Muramasa

13 sentinels and Odin Sphere leifthrasir are definitely worth plating. The former has okay combat and an amazing story and characters. Probably one of my favorite casts from any video game and the story is oh so fun. The latter has a pretty good story and characters with great gameplay and an even better level up system. Just make sure you play the remake because the gameplay in the original ps2 version is slow, clunky, and lacking.
>>
Okay I just have to ask.
Is there no issues actually getting a lot of mercs? I mean for example I want 3 Hunters in one team because sometimes I don't want to deal mixing teams when it's obvious big part of the battles needs 3 hunters and I just want that team to roam and auto kill what they can. Is that okay?
>>
>>3685967
>right now I'm using a lot of mercenaries because I have this problem where I seem to no longer be able to enjoy characters I haven't made myself—really limits your options when it comes to finding new JRPGs to play
you're in luck with UO since even the MC is optional in battles.
>>
>>3689414
There's zero issues with using mercs.
