Is it worth playing through? I have tried to get into it twice but the gameplay seemed really slow and dull, and I heard it gets even worse in the second entry.
>>
>>3683434
Play Ep 1, watch the cutscenes of Ep 2, play Ep 3. Ep 3 is unequivocally a great game.
>>
>>3683434
Gameplay in xenosaga 1 is kino, it's just there are so many cutscenes. I like movie games, so I don't mind, but the xenosaga series isnt for everyone.

That said, play 3 like >>3683438 said. It's worth having to go through the hot garbage that 2 is.
>>
There's some old school charm about the first game, but if you don't like grinding and long stretches of battle, you'll probably get tired of it. The second one was hard for me to play, especially since the voice actors changed for some of the characters. Never got around to playing 3.
>>
>>3683434
just play Xenogears instead. it does all the same stuff, does it better, and does it in 1 game.
>>
>>3683441
>the hot garbage that 2 is.
Which is such a fucking shame, because 2 has some of the best cinematography in the series and has some of the best plot developments (my nigga Yuriev and the Space Pope).
>>3683473
Xeno games are meant to be played in release order.
>>
>>3683474
Nta, but stop pretending xenogears and xenosaga are linked, because they're not.
>>
>>3683476
They are and there is nothing your seething can do to change it. I remember less than two years ago when you retards were saying "It isn't the same Zohar in Blade and Saga, it's a different Zohar" and we all know how that turned out.

I beat the first two games, but by the time I got to the third one, I just didn't have the patience to continue the shit that these games do to you. Terrible side quests, boring backtracking through old areas to complete the sidequests, boring long anime scenes. And when you get into 3 it starts introducing new characters that had nothing to do with the first two games and you have to sit there and watch all of their anime scenes on top of the scenes that expand upon the cast from the first two games. It was exhausting. I just decided that I didn't care how this trilogy ends. I spent enough time on it to feel like "this shit's dumb". Fucking Japs, when will they learn

>that one anon in that one thread disagreed with me and im right
>>
Game picks up when you get to the card game. Shit was gwent before gwent.
>>
Like others I liked 1 and 3. That said they aren't amazing games and all.
>>
>>3683434
It's the apex of Sci-Fi JRPG
It will NEVER get better than this
>>

No I fucking fell asleep playing the first one. I'll just greentext the problems that come to mind
>giant, empty, grey hallways 99% of the game
>no music, just footsteps for the majority of the game
>the combat gimmick is amateurish and doesn't fit into the game at all. They just added that roulette wheel thing because that's all the devs could think of to make the combat more interesting. You always just want the exp boost one too.
>horrible leveling mechanic, where beating up trash mobs in the tutorial zone is actually more optimal than beating tough enemies for maximizing stats
>long, unskippable animations for basic attacks
>movie game. It's pretty much proto-MGS4 with its endless, "encyclopedia" dialogue where the characters don't sound like people but rather they're wikipedia robots that explain the world to you rather than just showing it
>2 is apparently bad (1 was so bad I couldn't play it) and 3 is apparently rushed so the whole trilogy is fucked
>main character design in the first looks like she's a librarian NPC, rather than a main character. Up to you if you like that but they make her look better in the sequels so apparently the devs considered it a problem too.
>backtracking, backtracking, padding, backtracking, boring side quests, padding, backtracking is what defines the trilogy
Kos-mos is hot, that's it.

You don't know why this is and if you do then you looked it up beforehand. Gay either way.

ep1 has a kino story but is very rough around the edges. definitely the strongest writing of the trilogy and the best character moments. if you enjoy jrpg's for their story at least play this one.

ep2 starts strong, but never recovers or does anything or interest after the kinda slick intro level. also kinda destroys the plot direction so hard the sequel has to spend far too much time fixing it.

ep3 is a great game and has great gameplay that feels very polished, but the story is mostly dogshit since it spends so much time as mentioned cleaning up after 2 shit all over the living room and dragged ass through the entire house.

thats about it the sum of the three isnt as good as xenogears storytelling, but the gameplay of ep3 beats xenogears gameplay out the water.

the xenoblade series feels honestly dummed down and kid moded a bit after these mature space opera games they made on sony consoles. i still like blade, but it is just a more modern wider appeal story than these or gears were.
>>
>>3683434
I played the first one but I honestly barely remember anything about it besides the redhead kid that LARPs as Dante, the beach episode and that late game scene where the bad guy traumatizes the loli
>>
>>3683434
I think they are worth playing, warts and all. I wish they could have had their way with the planned 6(?) games but they did what they could I guess.
>>
>>3684432
People say xenoblade is dumber down but the combat in xenoblade 2 had way more depth than anything in gears or saga. Gears was pretty fucking simple
>>
>>3683434
Episode 1 and 2 are good.
3 has a fucking shit story.

Xeno shit

Episode I: Meh gameplay, great story, music, atmosphere, cutscene direction and character writing.
Episode II: Bad everything except a few scenes written by Episode I's writer. Has a few good tracks. Ruins Shion as a character.
Episode III: Still has Episode II's Shion. The writing in general is somewhere between Episode I's and Episode II's, but has enough cool moments that it's worth playing. Gameplay is streamlined for better and for worse. Soundtrack is excellent.

BONUS
Episode I&II DS: Inferior version of Episode I but infinitely superior version of Episode II. Best combat system, but a bit on the easy side. Soundtrack is meh. If you can read nip, watch PS2 Episode II's cutscenes first and then play the DS version instead.
Pied Piper: Unplayable (lost media). Writing is on par with Episode I. Hoping G-Mode or somebody re-releases it one day.

>>3684258
True. Xenosaga and Phantasy Star (2 and 4) are peak.
>>
Xenosaga's ass, just like the rest of the Xeno games.
>>
>>3687246
Was Pied Piper Ziggy's backstory?
