what did you guys think of this game? just beat it for the first time the other day and i thought it was very solid if very long with less plot happenings than usual. somnom woods is one of the best areas in the series and the whole concept of reviving a lost people was really interesting. the boss battles were especially great, even the giant battles were better than bis's imo despite having to emulate gyro with a mouse. that said i wish they did more interesting stuff with the dream world, the luiginary mechanics were neat but the worlds themselves were just the real world but slightly different except dream's deep. even when you entered others' dreams it really wasn't that different.if you wanna talk about brothership too make another thread because i haven't played it yet, have played the original trilogy though.
>>3683503I haven't played it since its original release, bit I share a lot of your opinions. I think BiS is the better game overall, but Dream Team has awesome visuals and fun gameplay. I loved the giant Luigi battles so much, I was glad there was an option to just replay them whenever. Somnom woods is definitely GOAT.I also agree about the dream worlds. It was an okay gimmick, and I at least enjoyed the remixes of each area's music that came along with it, but it felt like they were struggling to come up with a twist as good as BiS's, even if the gameplay that accompanied it was still solid. It's sort of the opposite to Paper Jam, imo, where the gimmick was exciting and something fans had wanted for years, but the gameplay holding it all together was a snoozefest. The game also has a problem that I think all Mario & Luigi games have; it's just too long. Every M&L hits a point where it feels like you should be starting the final chapter, but instead you find out you've still got a couple of areas left to explore. It seems weird to complain about more content, but it's just that the story and gameplay itself seem too simple and straightforward to be dragged out for as long as they are. They all seem very intent on having 7 chapters for the sake of tradition, but I feel like they'd all shine with just 6.I haven't played Brothership either, but I don't intend to. All the reviews seem to confirm exactly all the things I was afraid of (dumbed down gameplay, too much dialogue, non-stop hand-holding, etc). It's a shame because I think the Mario & Luigi concept still has a lot of potential, but they really need to give it to the right developers and let them get creative with it.
>>3683503Bowsers inside story > super star saga > brothership > dream team > partners in time > paper jam
>>3685560No way Brothership isn't dead last. MAYBE in front of Paper Jam, on a good day.
>>3686277Brothership is on the better half for the gameplay alone.
Saga > Bowser > Dream Team > Partners > Brothership > Paper Jam
>>3683871Even Superstar Saga, imo the tightest of the games, has this issue; Joke's End feels like the perfect final dungeon, then you get thrown into Bowser's Castle, where you get to fight the same three fucking enemies over and over again while going through an excessive amount of boring minibosses. They should've just called it at Joke's End - there's no reason Cackletta couldn't just do her final boss fight there. It's a far more interesting setting anyway.
>>3686495It's a shame all the fucking jabbering, hand-holding, and shit pacing won't let me actually enjoy the gameplay, then.
>>3686888That's only the first 5 hours.
>>3686888If hand holding is a problem then Brothership would be the second best game in that regard because of how many tutorials it cuts out. Dream Team has the most hand holding followed by Bowser’s Inside Story. Partners in Time would be next, with Superstar Saga being right behind Brothership. Paper Jam has the least amount of handholding, but it fails in other ways which could make or break your opinion on the game.
I just don't understand why there's so much fucking exhausting bloat. Superstar Saga takes like 20 hours to replay, even if you do all the extra shit! And I'll happily replay it any time although as >>3686792mentioned I often just drop it just before or after Joke's End. Dream Team, Paper Jam, and Brothership are all 40+ hours and certainly not better for it...I couldn't even finish Paper Jam and my patience with Brothership is starting to wear thin as I approach the fourth lighthouse.I did enjoy Dream Team plenty though. It was too dragged out but I maybe even liked it more than BIS.
>>3686495I tried Brothership on my hacked switch. It just didn't grip me. I saw other people say it takes awhile to get going, but I don’t know if I want to stick with it.
>>3691456That's your choice but I think if you don't like the game by Lottacoins (the second island of the second sea) you won't like it at all. How far are you in anyways.
>>3691462I beat the first island, and I'm close to finishing Twistee Island, so about 1-2 hours in.
>>3691452I know, right! Superstar Saga is the shortest game by /far/, and still has weird pacing and bloated content. The games don't have actual stories, so they don't deserve to have that much stuff in them. The highs are great, but I don't find myself wanting to replay the M&L games very often. It seems the developers thought "RPG" meant they had to stuff in as much content as they could.
>>3691465I assumed you would have beaten Gorumbla by the time you complained. And you would have one or two islands before the Great Lighthouse. It takes about 5 hours to get good but I assume you already heard that.
>>3683503Dream Team would've been a much better game if it wasn't spamming tutorials every fucking minute. It should've been called Mario & Luigi: Starlow Shut The Fuck Up
>>3691474Gorumbla really is where the game picks up but it's ridiculous that it takes 3-5 hours to reach the first boss of the game.
