One of my favorite things about the Shadow Hearts series is how the tone changes with every game.

Koudelka is a gothic horror story
Shadow Hearts is an edgy and gory 2000s anime

Don't worry too much about weapons breaking, the game will drop a lot of them to the point where you won't know what to do with all of them. On the other hand you can invest in firearms which don't break but need ammo

The encounters are super slow but the exp rate is very high, so it evens out. The slow encounters really feel like they go with the horror atmosphere.
