I just bought this game. Please tell me I did OK.
Just from trailers and watching some live gameplay it looks like it's New Vegas in space with better textures and more color theory. How right or fucked am I?

I'm going to play it. Putting stats in long guns/sneak.
>>
>>3685939
I didn't think it was very good, but maybe you'll have fun with it. Gunplay was boring, environments were terribly sterile, and while the humor of the game had its moments, it was still more miss than hit. The priest was the only companion that I liked.
>>
>>3685939
The problem with Outer Worlds is that all the math and ideas and what not are there to make a great successor to FONV, it's just executed poorly. The dumb upgrade system that just has you tinkering with the same fucking guns every 3 levels for 60 hours. The boneheaded NPCs that you're better off taking the lonewolf perk with and leaving them all behind, the incredibly small "planets" that are mostly repeated assets with different colors, the lesbian/gay/girlboss/millenial speak storyline, the incredibly predictable plot with a very predictable ending (and underwhelming last boss)

I mean the gunplay was DECENT and the sound FX, weapon design, core ideas (like the inhaler, the skill system, etc) are all really sharp, but it was just used so crappily.

It's not bad if you buy it on sale for 10 bucks or something, but any more than that and I dunno.

It also assumes you play games.

Sorry man but the game is pretty terrible.
>Choices don't really matter
>Writing is GOD awful, like they saw a few episodes of rick n' morty and decided that was what the entire game should be about
>Same for NPC dialogue and quests
>Branching paths are just an illusion, most outcomes and endings play out either the same, or so predictably it doesn't even feel worthwhile.
>Uninspired world designs
>gunplay and combat are below average at best

The character writing and worldbuilding are kinda shit but beside that it's a fun shootan RPG. This place hates it because it doesn't suck the player's dick Mass Effect style, but it's honestly not a bad purchase as long as you didn't pay full price.

It does not feel like New Vegas at all. It has the storyteling choices of Mass Effect. I honestly think it was a solid game. I feel like this game got shit on because faggot Betheshit drones keep comparing it to their games unfairly.

PRO TIPS: Pick safety inspector as your job. Name your guy Opposite Oswaldo or Professor Paradox or some wacky alliteration. Roleplay as unpredictable and evil as possible, like a clinically insane batman clown villain. Take advantage of the fact that this game has no essential NPCs you can kill ANYONE! so when Parvarti tells you she has a crush on the Groundbreaker mayor for example kill Jun Lee immediately to roleplay a jealous maniac. The game is way less fun if you RP as a goodie two-shoes white knight fag which is why it gets a terrible rep. Make absolutely sure you max your CHA out in the character creator and if you forgot to do that just start over! if youre planning to mod the most essential mod would be infinite TTD for "immersion". TTD sucks hard in gameplay but is supposed to be the in-universe meta explanation for why this new kid from Earth is able to easily BTFO every retarded slowpoke in the Halcyon Colony to become to new champ

>>3686389
Autistic beyond belief

>>3687533
Nta but who told you I have autisms?

>>3686348
the lack of sex/romance in this game constitutes as a genuine plothole. Given how tyrannical and greedy the Halcyon Corporate Holdings Board is, you think there would be a dozen brothels on every planet, no? They're okay with treating their employees worse than irl slaves, but forced prostitution is too far? wtf? give me a break

>>3688174
It feels like Kotor and ME just because you get a space ship and typically travel with 2 shiphands in your party. in some ways it also feels similar to FNV too, except with way more branching in every quest, like if every quest were Beyond the Beef

Perhaps you are playing the game wrong I suggest killing every NPC in Emerald Vale and killing every NPC on the Groundbreaker to send the whole colony a clear message not to fuck with you!

I did not care for this game in the slightest. Its a very generic, sci-fi action RPG.
The story isn't serious in tone, which, if executed well, could have been good, but they totally fail in their pursuit of humor. Overall, I would describe the quests and storylines in this game as "mild", not very engaging or having any interesting concepts to deliver upon, but serviceable.
Gameplay wise its shit. For all intents and purposes, they just ripped the character building system from NV and made it worse, having fewer and less interesting traits. It also has braindead Fallout 4 tier combat and many other Bethesdaisms baked into its core.
Overall, I was disappointed, I expected a much better showing from Obsidian. I don't regret playing it but I don't look back upon my time spent with it fondly. Sequel will probably be shit too.

shit has schizo occult shit in it and nobody talks about it. one of the characters talk about "The Great Architect" and being a cannibalistic secret society, then pawns it off as a joke. Also the fact of enslaving mankind through technology is prevalent in some parts of the story. Also there is a lot of cool hidden weapons and side interactions. I had fun

It's a 7/10 game. The end feels rushed.

It was a *little bit* of a let down when it came out which naturally made everyone pretend it was steaming dogshit and terrible. It's fun, but combat gets a bit samey roughly at the midway point. The expansions are good.

It's good, but "buy on sale" good. I think the sequel will be much better.
>>
>>3685939
Looks kinda dumb imo and I fucking love scifi stuff like star trek and New Vegas is one of my favorite video games of all time.

I just don't see how anyone could make a spiritual successor to new vegas. It was incredible, if only they didn't have to rush the finish project. Even rushed it's still one of the best fallout games.

The worse writing i ever encountered in a video game (tied with borderlands) and that's saying something. That alone makes it unplayable for me.
>>
>>3685939
somewhat interesting until the second half where it lost all interest. the story is just dogshit and i have no motivation to do anything, especially since they didnt even include a romanceable npc, instead i gotta play matchmaker for a fucking dyke. who the fuck wants to see other people happy in a video game?

>>
>>3685939
>I just bought this game. Please tell me I did OK.
Ya dun goofed. It was free with DLCs on ebin store several times, one of the most frequent cases of that IIRC.
That aside,
>it looks like it's New Vegas in space with better textures and more color theory
More like first person KOTOR with New Vegas quest design. Missing are New Vegas' weapon and ammo variety, and open world mechanics originating from Fallout 3 (stealth with faction clothes is very poorly implemented, there are no open world AI clashes of different factions, etc). Writing is also less competent, none of the NV writers worked on the game so you won't find anything like conversations with House or Joshua here, there are maybe two or three memorable dialogues in the game.
>How right or fucked am I?
It is fun enough but it heavily railroads you into one of the two avaliable endings. It also is all over the place tonally between le wacky space adventures and muh serious critique of capitalism. One DLC is focused on le wacky space adventures, the other on muh serious critique of capitalism, and both of them are better than the main game because of that focus.
Not much to say about the gameplay. It is fun but flawed. As well as roleplay system: it is decently designed but i felt like Obsidian was afraid of making the game imbalanced and unwelcoming so traits and perks are very neutered and skill checks are frequently too low for even unspecialized characters to fail. It also has some weird effects designed to make the game deeper but not working as intended. Supernova difficulty has exclusive hardcore mode with hunger and thirst that lower your stats, but some of your passive abilities are bound to skills dependent on those stats, so your armor and weapons wear more rapidly if you are thirsty, for example.
I recommend using a mod for allowing fast travel and quicksave on Supernova, and better AD-A portrait (AD-A is your ship's AI which in vanilla has some gender neutral abomination for a face).

I'd say the biggest problem is that they did a terrible job building the world and writing characters. Obsidian assumed the reason everyone liked New Vegas was because you got to make a lot of roleplaying decisions, but they forgot that they had to also write a world where we care enough about the setting, factions, and characters to want to make decisions about them. The Outer Worlds leaned too much into the goofy reddit humor tongue in cheek comedic stuff, so we didn't have any actually interesting conflicts like NCR vs Caesar's Legion, BOS vs Synths/Enclave/Institute, Stormcloaks vs Legion, or Holy Nation vs UC vs Sheks. Part of what keeps those franchise fandoms so alive is all the shitposting you can do defending or hating on factions, and also the hype you feel when a really strong elite enemy like NCR rangers show up, or some really hyped up boss. None of the enemies in Outer Worlds were memorable, and every faction was some combination of retarded and cartoonishly malicious to the point that it would not be believable, all because they wanted the "heh heh capitalism in space BAD amirite fellow redditors" crowd
>>
>>3686212
>the incredibly small "planets" that are mostly repeated assets with different colors
This is the biggest issue for me, the enemies were either reskinned space raiders or retextured generic predator animals

>Vicar Max was pretty based and pretty autistic. Which is a pretty rare combination
I really didnt get the appeal of Vicar Max, he just seemed weirdly ominous and untrustworthy so I kept expecting him to betray me at some point. Maybe I'm just too normie so I read autism as threatening. My favorite companion was Ellie cause she was the closest thing to an evil waifu. I thought I would like the weird black huntress lady but she 99% of her dialogue is weird jokes about drinking obviously written by some autist who's never drank before.

>I just spent money on a game I must have, on some level, wanted to play
>I know, I'll ask a bunch of strangers about whether it's good or not instead of playing it!
Either you're a literal child buying their first game, some autist addicted to making low-effort bait posts about a game you didn't like, or are just actually retarded.

For people in this thread who are not retarded and are on the fence about playing this (or literally any other video game), here is a PSA on how not to waste everybody's time, and put some semblance of critical thinking skills to work in your every day life:

- Before buying a game, do research. Is it similar to other games you've played? What are the pros, what are the cons? After reading a variety of reviews, does the consensus sound like something you'd want to invest time and money into? OP obviously knew enough to know that the game he wanted to play was similar to another game he presumably enjoyed, but did not know enough to do his own research into the game, and so decided to buy it beforehand, then immediately regretted it.

- If you aren't 100% sure about a game, wait until it's on sale (or play a demo or pirate it). If you are young and have copius amounts of free time this doesn't really matter, but understanding yourself enough to know your preference when experiencing media becomes incredibly important as you get older and have less time. I don't know if OP got the game on sale, and if he did then that is another reason to just play it instead of wasting the time of the people around you.

- Just fucking play it. We live in a time when reading comprehension is diminishing and every fucker over 25 wants to be a video-essayist about their hobby preaching to people like a faggot much like I am now, and rather than try to experience a piece media people want to hear what other people thought about it rather than actually fucking experiencing that media and making their own opinions.
>>
this game was utterly fucking mid but I have an inexplicable feeling that the sequel is going to be really good and then people will lie that the first game was secretly great
>>

>>
>>3697991

>>
Jokey tone but not funny
>>
>>3685939
Its a reddit game with boring combat and "story", which is more a sequence of events, the characters are too over the top, its hard to take serious and immerse yourself. I dont like the design either. Alltogether, its sad, because the idea of travelling through different parts of the galaxy and giving us specific areas instead of some gigantic unified open world was a nice approach. The dlcs are both a step up from the base game Imo, only good companions are the first two that are available.
>>
>>3695663
Vicar max did more or less betray you, I think you were supposed to know that from the start. He felt (like all companions) like a typical result of millenial writing
