Why didnt it have a bigger cultural impact? Rpg codex rated it as GOTY 2023.
>>3686454It is quite literally just not a role playing game. Rpg codex faggots are some of the biggest pseudo intellectual poseurs on the internet. Simple as.
They fortified the voting to ensure that BG3 didn’t win. I’m not a BG3 fan, but that is pretty fake and gay.
>>3686457>It is quite literally just not a role playing game.it literally a role playing game, you make decisions which alter the game state after and your mercs level and get extra abilities.
>>3686468>you make decisions which alter the game state after and your mercs level and get extra abilities.NTA but you just described literally any modern game. Call of Duty is an RPG now.
>>3686454>cultural impactFrom a rehash? No...
>>3686477does modern cod even have a singleplayer campaign longer than 4h? I suspect the most you can call it is fps with rpg elements, JA3 is full blown RPG no matter what arbitrary definition you choose, otherwise majority of games posted on this board wouldnt count as RPG as well.
>>3686454Why must a GOTY winner have a cultural impact?
>>3686454Not rpg>>3686488True most games on this board have nothing to do with roleplaying what so ever.
>>3686454Why do you give a shit what twitterfaggots rate thingsThink for yourself goy
Strategy games are niche it's not 1997.
Picking this game up during the winter sale and dumping 30+ hours into it has been pretty bittersweet. It's really fucking fun. And instead of what I thought would be terribly cringe humor like I found in Wasteland 3, it's pretty funny at times and endearing. The music is fantastic, as is the gameplay and the world. The bittersweet part is realizing that, by every indication, the devs were pulled off creating any dlc and likely a sequel because of poor sales or just embracer fuckery. Sounds like they haven't said anything this whole year. While there will always be JA2, it really fucking bums me out that these devs crafted this love letter to the series only to have it be a one-off
>>3686454I don't want to replay it for one reasonforced military intervention that erases your progress unless you turtle the campaign and fortify everythingfirst time around that shit happened was just a big fuck youBobby Ray's gunshop update wasn't even necessary imo
>>3686526i wish they got some time and atleast 1 dlc to polish the game and add more content, inventory UI has to be the worst of any game i ever played, also the way you buy items from various merchants by clicking items you cant even check stats is not optimal.
waiting for it to show up on humble monthly so i can play it
>>3686540Yeah, there are definitely some QoL issues here and there. Not a perfect game by any means but really surprisingly fun
>>3686457>>3686492>skill checks>dialogue choices with varied story outcomes>level up system with perks that shape your role>stats that shape how effective or ineffective you are at combatWhat is an RPG then?
Favorite mercs for personality? Thor is easily my favorite. Red and Steroid are pretty great. Buns is my sexpot. Kaylana was cute but her wisdom is garbage, not that I'm trying to minmax too hard. Larry is pretty awful, but I've liked Grunty
>>3686551>can't tell if it's an rpg or notI know a cuckdexer when I see onehere is a hintmost games nowdays are a mix of original old genresif core gameplay is more in line with another genre Xthen it's a X with rpg elements, not an rpg
>>3686526The game will always be on steam, and could pick up interest and generate enough money to get some content. Just keep propping it up, anon.
>>3686583I didn't ask for a hint; I asked you a question. What is an RPG?
>>3686594We really should have a stickied thread for that question
>>3686454Because it's mostly just "alright" and people don't want to admit that v1.13 has reached an almost mythical status that no future game can live up to.
>>3686454Answered your own question
>>3686454>Rpg codex
>>3686454Some of you guys are not aware of /vst/ existance. They have general thread
>>3686603>v1.13 has reached an almost mythical statusMythically shit
>>3687786/vst/ has very little to do with strategy, all gsg schizos moved there and its now padox visual novel larp board, they would actually fit more on /vrpg/
>>3686463What's with not wanting off-site people to hijack your vote?
>>3687800>doesnt know how elections are fortified to protect democracyHe rigged the vote counting to count BG3s votes as fewer vote-equivalents despite receiving more votes because he didn’t like BG3 and didn’t want it to win.
>>3686454Slav codex saw a slav game and starting rubbing their slavslime tentacles all over it
>>3686454it's 25 years old game "modernized" into 13 years old game engine >>3686463>They fortified the voting to ensure that BG3 didn’t win.based
>>3687829>basedLike I said, I think BG3 is mediocre and disappointing too, but that's just being as dishonest as the fanboys and shills. It was pretty clearly the biggest RPG of 2023, and a lot of people liked it. You have to retain your intellectual honesty and principles in this day and age, or you are lost.
>>3687800It was the other way around. Oldfags voted for bg3, brainrotted culture warrior newfags who joined codex in 2022-23 voted against it. It got the most points, the most 5/5 votes by far, but 0.02 lower bayesian average score than JA3, which is what codex considers the deciding factor.
>>3687854>intellectual honesty and principlesNeither here nor the codex would be place for intellectual anything. And principally man can only trusts those statistics he rigged himself.
>>3687862Be the change you want to see on the board, anon. I can't speak to muh codex since I've never lurked or posted there, but I came over to 4chins from SA and now I'm stuck here with you faggots forever. If I am the only honest poster on /vrpg/, then so beiteverthough.
>>3687866I genuinely don't think it's worth trying to make any sort of difference. Sure, Louis XIV proved it possible to turn swamp into something beautiful, but he had resources of whole damn country. I just have myself.
>>3687872
how's it compared to 2?
>>3687955streamlined ass with cartoonish graphics and special abilities a'lla dota
>>3686454I've been playing RPGs for decades and to me, this game was just a meme janky XCOM with lame humor. It's not even an RPG. Didn't finish. And I liked both XCOM games, btw. It wasn't even good XCOM. Oh, and badly optimized.
>>3686583a) I'm nta so you didn't ask me shit, not that I would care anywayb) not that I would care anyway.I throw you a bone and you are showing the attitude? you are getting nothing until you learn to behave, brainlet >>3687859this exactlyuntil the vote is just a binary yes/no the only thing the 5-point scoring system achieves is making it easier expanding ignore list of culture warrior retards who don't care about the genre
>>3687859Not a single mature RPG player would like or approve BG3 in any shape or form. Fake news.
>>3688002speak for yourself faggot
>>3687955>how's it compared to 2?It comes with a trigger warning before you start the game about how it’s racist and sexist and from another timeThey made all the guns use completely wrong calibers because it would be too hard and confusing to have more than one or two
>>3686583>most games nowdays are a mix of original old genres>if core gameplay is more in line with another genre X>then it's a X with rpg elements, not an rpgThis is true.
>>3686454Nothing westoid has any cultural impact anymore unless you count laughing at woke jew propaganda to be cultural impact.
>>3686454>Rpg codex rated it as GOTY 2023.This has to be the most embarassing thing they've ever done.
>>3688093Come on now, their only other option was to agree with everyone that BG3 was the RPG of the year. That's like, mainstream opinion. So, a good thing some other game got released.
>>3688107I didn’t like BG3 but I’d struggle to name a bigger rpg of 2023. Ja2 was barely an RPG I would call it a tactical strategy game with RPG elements and “ja3” even less so
>>3688110the fuck are you on about, ja3 has 100x more rpg elements than ja2
>>3688120I barely got past the first couple missions. The weapon caliber thing was too stupid.
>>3688110While not bigger, Rogue Trader would have been a respectable alternative winner to BG3. Of course, codex also has a hateboner for Owlcat, so the sheep can't admit they liked it.
>>3688134Rogue Trader was too buggy back then, it's still pretty buggy now.
>>3688093it's just a sea of retarded thirdies that think they're in good company, the core of interplay forum people were gone by like 2012
>>3688134Rogue Trader is not better than bg3
>>3688144Do I need to know warhammer lore to appreciate Rogue Trader? I couldnt give less shit about that childish setting.
>>3688144Of course not, BG3 is among the biggest RPGs of all fucking time, but if you want to pretend otherwise, you gotta have something.
>>3688144I didn't say it was. It would have been a better alternative as Codex's 2023 GOTY than JA3.
>>3688150the game gives you all the loredumps you'll need to understand what's going on and then some
>>3688150Yes. Get filtered.
>>3686583Rigid thinking, if game is X, then it can't be Y as well, is often a sign of autism.
>>3686454It feels more like a nostalgic throwback to the war on terror while missing potential spicy bits.Where is my fucking Afrikaner in a former French/German African colony? Or the guy who protected diamond interests? They missed out on a chance to have Cliff be as racist to the Gran Chien locals or Flo/Malice as French interpreters who butts heads with the local Gran Chien population.Missed potential of a lack of a dlc
>>3688150you don't need to know anything about wh40k to get into rogue trader but if you don't like 40k you probably won't like the gamegetting to see parts of the setting besides space marines or guardsmen fighting the villain of the week is one of the best things about rogue trader
>>3688150get a load mister fucking mature over here, we're all very impressed by your big boy tastes in fantasy settings, cocksucker
>>3688528Why are you offended? Because I called your toys childish? Lol, warhammer fans.
>>3686526Well, JA2 fans basically called this a nu-xcom clone and rejected it.
Because XCOM was always the superior series
>>3688562except in late 90s and early 00s when it was X-com Apocalypse and X-com Enforcer vs JA2 and JA2:UB
>>3688547why are you such a pathetic cum guzzling faggot, posturing about your maturity on 4chan you waste of space
>>3688091>westoidbulgariabros we made it... we're western finally
>>3688602also X-com Interceptor and apparently some play-by-email game I haven't heard of until now, late 90s as very much shovelwave era for X-com
>>3688562xcom was always inferior game
>>3688562>XCOM was always the superior seriesSeries? I mean there was UFO Defense and then there was Terror from the Deep and that was it. Just two games. Hardly counts as a series now does it
>>3688658xcom apocalypse was kinda cool
>>3686532Pfft you can just auto resolve all those battles after the map change if you want. Its not nearly as devastating as some people make it out to be and I usually just trigger it early as soon as I've done all the quests it ends just to get it over with and to start getting all the better equipment.
>>3686540Also I bet if you hold that one chokepoint on the river you can kill them all before they ever get to the first half of the map. Haven't tried that though
>>3689872Meant for>>3686532
>>3687955It's good. The haters are just whiny dorks who want it to be a completely inaccessible to anyone who isn't a hard core nerd like 1.13
>>3688130You fucking people bitching about the weapon calibers are so fucking stuck in the 1.13 mod that you forget ja2 Vanilla DID THE EXACT SAME THING
>>3689890No, it didn’t. I don’t even like 1.13. Ja2 vanilla wasn’t quite as detailed, like you’d have “7.62mm NATO” and “7.62mm WP” which is technically correct but not as granular as say 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 7.62x25 etc etc, but ja2 vanilla didn’t have half the weapons in the game using blatantly wrong calibers just because they didn’t want to have too many.
At least it has gore and is not unity, unlike every other slop.
>>3689955>not unityit has slightly better graphic but optimization is as shit
>>3689890>ja2 Vanilla DID THE EXACT SAME THINGName five examples. Pro tip: you won’t.
>>3690499Type-85 ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x25mm)SKS ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x39mm) Dragunov ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x54mmR)Desert Eagle changed to .357 to share ammo with other pistols (should be .50)FN Minimi denied 100 round belts and forced to share 30 round mags with assault rifles
>>3690674>Type-85 ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x25mm)True, good example.>SKS ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x39mm)Rejected, since 7.62mm WP is clearly representing x39.>Dragunov ammo simplified to "7.62mm Warsaw Pact" (should be 7.62x54mmR)True, good example.>Desert Eagle changed to .357 to share ammo with other pistols (should be .50)Rejected, since they do indeed come chambered in .357.>FN Minimi denied 100 round belts and forced to share 30 round mags with assault riflesRejected, as it's chambered in its correct caliber and it can feed from box mags.I'll grant you 2/5 though, you brought up a couple good examples, and I was expecting 0.
I tried and it was boring. I thought "did my brain rot" and tried JA 2 again just to be sure, and JA 2 is still fun, so it's just JA3 that is boring.
>>3690766There's no difference.
>>3690902JA2 doesn’t have a trigger warning before you play it because of heckin sexism and racism
>>3690902I don't think you played either game if you say that.
>>3690909It was a period piece, and unfortunately they also softballed it by not letting Mercs from colonizer countries like South Africa and France in the roster. If you want to be racist and offensive you need to smug sneering imperialist from France mocking the accent of the Grand Chien nationals or reminding them they are one point owned both the people and the piece of dirt they live on
>>3691357what do you mean? half the mercs in JA3 roster are from the colonies
>>3686454I liked the combat but the RPG systems just weren't very interesting, after taking a few towns I got bored and quit. I don't know what it is, generally everything was high quality but it all just started feeling kind of samey.
>>3691472A. New games aren't as good any moreB. We're getting oldC. Both
>>3691475I like plenty of new games, JA3 probably just didn't have enough story/world/aesthetic appeal to keep me going, but also not enough autism spreadsheet simulator to keep me wanting to learn more
>>3691477I played for a level or two and got bored, just didn’t have sovl. Made me want to replay ja2 for first time in 20 years. Problem is I really wanna make a custom party of IMP mercs, but only way I can do that is with 1.13 and I don’t care for all the changes 1.13 makes.
>>3691375None of them are from France or having Cliff in the game. Think Flo and Malice from JA2
>>3690686>>3690674Didn't the p90 use 9mm?
>>3693067nope, p90, g11 and caws each had its separate ammo typewhich is stupid becaus caws should be able to feed standard 12gauge
