>post-apocalyptic distant future
Isn't that every RPG setting? Seems awfully generic

>your character turns out to be a member of a super advanced society infiltrating them

It's called "Medieval Stasis" and it just makes a lot of sense from a narrative perspective. I'm not going to list all the points in favor for it, there's youtube for that.
>>

A fuckton of settings are like that but it depends on what you consider to be "distant future". As in, there's usually a golden age where the atlantis-like super advanced progenitor race eventually self-destructs due to their arrogance, the remnants of civilization reset back to more primitive technology and culture, and the story is set thousands of years after the collapse of the progenitor race which no one remembers or knows anything about anymore.
>>
>legends speak of an unholy ancient device that can inflinct death itself to anything within an instant
>it's just a handgun

yup, it's kino

it's so overdone, it's turned into a mediocre trope by now.
Give me an RPG set into the golden age of a setting. Let me explore the netherese flying cities, age old elven realms with their beautiful architecture, dwarfen fortresses at their height of productivity and prosperity.
Let me either witness their downfall in an epic story, or scale it down to just participate in the intricacies of their cultures in a more personal story, like in Shadowrun i.e.

i don't care that this is a common trope. i love it every time.

i like it because it's literally the only coherent way to justify having guns and technology in your medieval fantasy setting. i roll my eyes every time i see characters using laser railguns and grenades but there's also characters using swords and casting spells lmao.
