well her dad died and left her an orphan. worst than that, as he left he said "don't worry i won't die and leave you alone forever" and then did exactly that
her only family now is her landlord / employer who runs a slum bar, and she doesn't trust that the landlord will continue to tolerate her forever
honestly she's not clingy enough. she should have a nervous breakdown the moment anyone leaves the room
