He's firmly chaotic neutral, and he's not treated like he's done no wrong.

Argument against is that boobplate would have not optimized angle and more chaotic deflection pattern increasing chance of bolt sliding towards one of the gaps. But I wouldn't assume significant difference, however I may be mistaken because to my knowledge nobody tested it by actually forging two pieces of armor and firing upon it.
