>Fear and Tumblr>System Shock>(Arguably) VTMBThat's it for Horror RPGs. Why won't anyone make these things?
Shin Megami Tensei, Koudelka, Parasite Eve, Bloodborne, hell, you could almost argue Resident Evil games are all RPGs...
>>3695669Sweet Home wants a word with this thread
>you could almost argue Resident Evil games are all RPGs.it's all so tiresome...
>>3695669>you could almost argue Resident Evil games are all RPGsCan you though? You are 100% correct about the Parasite Eve series though. There are also a few indie games that fit the bill. I can't remember what most of them are actually called but there is one currently in development called Look Outside that may be promising.Really I don't get why horror RPGs aren't more of a thing. Stuff like Funger and the Giygas fight in Earthbound are pretty well know examples of how the old school RPG formula can be used to elicit dread but nobody wants to capitalize on it.
>>3695669Bloodborne (you can emulate it on PC now btw, see the daily /v/ threads)Pathologic series (just play 2 though)Corpse Party series (if you're into J-horror and ryona)Death end re;Quest series (same writer as above)
>>3695982>(if you're into J-horror and ryona)>recommending "THAT VN" without mentioning the sexNot sure if this is a sly prank or not.
>>3695982the Shadow Heart series
>>3695982If Corpse Party counts then there is a whole world of horror RPG Maker classics out there. IB, Mad Father, Yume Nikki, Dreaming Mary, The Witches House, Misao, ect.I really don't think it counts though.
>>3696450Omori and Black Souls 2 contain horror segments while also having actual turn-based combat.Vanilla Omori combat sucks, but there's apparently that one Shin Omori Tensei mod so I don't want to discount it entirely.
>>3695669>posting Matt Berry
Clive Barker's Undying kinda-sorta-maybe. Eh, it counts as an RPG if System Shock does.
>>3695669Power fantasy and character progression doesn't really work with horror. Spooky is too vague.
>>3698174>Power fantasyThis has been a plague on rpgs and should be banned
