Should I bother fusing more demons if I'm just aiming to reach the ending? I'm at the Fourth Kalpa but haven't entered ToK. Things seem alright at the moment, just beat Beelzebub without much issue.

Cerberus has Dark Might I whip him out during boss fights just for free turns.

Which one? If you're going for TDE on hard mode you're gonna want to fuse pierce on all your demons so they can do actual damage to the final boss. I recommend fusing a Harlot like this except replace bolt storm with pierce.
I've only ever played hard on the PS2 version, no idea how much easier normal and the remake version are.

it's 100% trial and error. every boss has some gimmick, and you either go into the fight with the counter to the gimmick, or you don't and then reload after you die.

this was maybe the first jrpg with any real difficulty a lot of people played so it got exaggerated heavily because of it
matador is a real wakeup call for anyone playing it, but once you've figured out how to beat him you've figured out how to beat the rest of the game.
you can otherwise trivialize the game by just not fusing your demons blindly and by resummoning your old demons to do sacrificial fusions and spamming the fusion selections to ensure they inherit key skills like the MP regen ones and will keep having access to useful magic like healing spells and buffs instead of whatever random shit they start with. Once you are doing that the difficulty largely just comes down to fighting a boss once and dying to it so you can see what kind of attacks it has.

You can easily just use the main character and Dante to attack, and use your other 2 demons for healing/buffing duty. Dante's skill set is very limited though, only bringing dekunda to the table so this means you will need to put basically every other skill you will need on those other 2 demons as you don't want to waste turns doing anything but focus/freikugel with the main character unless its absolutely necessary.

The problem with Atlus difficulty options is that they balance the game around one difficulty and then the others just add a multiplier to the formulas. It's lazy as shit and makes the other difficulties have terrible balance. At least Etrian Odyssey is balanced around the hardest difficulty, which was the only difficulty in the original games.

7th Saga is the hardest jRPG I've beat because it's so fucking tedious and the US release was significantly harder than the JP version because they gimped the player's character growth and not the rivals who scale to the player's level. You have to actively avoid leveling too much until you face your rival.
