Just finished this (Yunica's story), never played any JRPG before, only DQ I & II, and I quite enjoyed it. Are the other games in the series just as good?

I know the 'canon' story happens with the 'Toal' character, but I don't really feel like playing this game again for it. How are the other Falcom games as well, Trails in the Sky picked my interest.

I've been mainly playing crpgs for the last 5 years, and each game is a 200 hour commitment accross many months, to play something I could finish in a week and had a nice, juvenile story was a nice break

The series is over 30 years old, and the playstyle of the games has evolved over the years.
Play Ys: the Oath in Felghana if you liked Origin. It came out before and plays very similarly.
There's also Ys VI / The Ark of Napishtim which uses the same engine as well. However, it was the first of the three and is thus a bit more rough around the edges in comparison. Can be a little frustrating at times.
The games released after Ys VI, starting with Seven started to get longer and more wordy. Everything before it is a pretty tight experience you can finish in a few sittings.
The games often go on sale and you can get many of them for five bucks or less.
As I said, gameplay styles vary. Check out gameplay videos of the following and see if anything piques your interest.
Ys I&II Chronicles -> play Dawn of Ys if you want more
Ys Seven -> Memories of Celceta is like this
Ys VIII -> IX and X play largely like it

To add, yes, you can start almost anywhere as the games are largely self-contained. At most, you will miss some references.
Ys I should be played before Ys II, and both should be considered one game more or less.

The trails series is a VERY slow burn. Play it if you like talking to every NPC everywhere after every story trigger to see how their own little lives and stories unfold. Some NPCs are even recurring characters across games.
The Trails series is also notorious for being unable to tell its story in a single game.

I suppose I will play Trials once it goes on sale, there is a turn based sale coming to steam soon. I will play it up until I can and If I enjoy it, I will just check out the 'remake' they got coming this year. Thank you

you will enjoy the ys series friend, the music is consistently kickass. I'd wait on X until the proud nordics version comes out though

I suppose. Made me stop playing after SC. Perhaps I'll pick it back up again when the series has officially concluded.

Ys: the Oath in Felghana is my favorite, and it has a great soundtrack too.

Pre Ys 7 can all be finished within a weekend.
The rest average 48 hours.
