>be me many years ago>dragon warrior 3 on the gbc is my favorite rpg>unlike the other rpgs I played at the time I get to make my own party and there isn't a lot of talking or boring puzzles >the game purely focus on exploring the world on your own with plenty of freedom and a lot of content>it looks amazing for a gbc game too>get dragon warrior 7 for Playstation >Wow it's going to be like 3 but a lot bigger since it's on a home consoleMy disappointment was immense, not only the game looks awful for a ps1 title but I wouldn't mind that if it has any of the things that made 3 great, instead it's the fucking opposite of everything I loved about 3, I don't know how people can say "all dragon quest games are the same!" What sequel left you utterly disappointed?
Every game has more talking and less freedom. It started when some lefty snowflake asked "But WHY are we entering the dungeon?" during a D&D game in the 80's. Like duh, there's treasure inside! "But what is my characters motivation?"
I loved the first five Trails game and thought the Cold Steel games were decent, but Daybreak was so bad I doubt I'll ever play another Trails game again. It's crazy because I've probably put 2000 hours combined into this series, but Daybreak was just that bad.
>>3697300This desu. Video games became a refuge for failed writers instead of game enjoyers.
>>3697300>Like duh, there's treasure inside!which is funny because back then gold was both your currency and means of character progression.
>>3697319Yeah, playing the game was the fucking point. Not meeting your party member's non binary boyfriend
>>3697316going from sky to cold steel the decline was pretty evident. mainly because sky games were from mid 2000s and cold steel was a 7th gen game with all the modern trappings.
>>3697322I wasn't a big fan of the Cold Steel games, but I found the blantant escapist power-fantasy to be charming. The first chapter of Daybreak made me think they were trying to tell a gritty, mature story, but it ends up devolving into anime nonsense about defeating evil with the power of friendship. Also Daybreak watered down much of Cold Steel's gameplay, presumably to reach a wider audience.
>>3697299Dragon Quest 8>wow a fully 3d dragon quest game on the PEE ESS TOO>its dogshitturns out its made by level 5
>>3697572Yeah, dood. It's only regarded as one of the best.
>>3697579I thought 9 was considered the best?
>>3697669Normies want story focused jrpgs like 8Not gameplay focused ones like 9
>>36976693 5 and 9 are the best. 8 is a good game though. 7 sucks balls
Pap Smear Mario Sticker Star. Everything that could be said about it has already been said. Nintendo was being very lazy and resting on their brand appeal during that era.
>>3697299>I don't know how people can say "all dragon quest games are the same!"Gaming was a different landscape before it stagnated in the 2010s, people were just used to every JRPG having a bespoke gimmicky battle system, cryptic secrets to sell guides and snowboarding minigames.DQ eschewed these things for an elegant dungeon crawling experience so it was "samey and boring".
>>3697316It took me midway through CS3 to realize that they honestly have no intention of ever letting this series finish.
>>3697316Never heard about this game. What is so bad about It?I remember thinking cold steel looked fun with its semi-contemporary technological setting and mechas, but I never put the effort to play it
>>3698219>What is so bad about It?The gameplay was severely watered down, presumably to attract new players. Daybreak is also by far the easiest game in the series. As for the story, the game has a good start but falls off hard after the prologue and devolves into stereotypical anime nonsense about the power of friendship. The story also makes absolutely no effort to move the overarching plot of the series forward, making it basically filler.
>>3697299Dragon Quest 9 also let you create your party members
>>36979095 is not very good6 and 7 are both better, let alone 8, 9 and 11
