What can I say about Sinnoh but that it's kinnoh?Gen IV finally introduces the phys/special split and improves learnsets so a lit of Pokémon are finally viable.I'm a bit biased towards Platinum because I played it back when it first released back in middle school and was my first Pokémon game.I had a blast playing against friends but obviously this time I couldn't use any of the new online features like Global Trade, etc.The Sinnoh region itself is kino doe, with plenty of great characters like the yuri subtext between Candice and Maylene, the father son duo Byron and Roark, the bromance between Volkner and Flint, etc.It also has one of the tougher Elite Fours and THE hardest champion in the franchise.Seriously, Cynthia's Garchomp is completely OP.
The Sinnoh dex is awesome af... but a lot of the newer mons suffer from either being at the end of the game, postgame or you have to trade with an item, which sucks.I don't blame players for using Staraptor and Luxray so much, there's great mons that are available at the very beginning of the game so why wouldn't you?I tried to avoid the "every Sinnoh team" meme but Lucario and Gatchomp are just too good to pass up.Also a feature I really liked is you get the running shoes almost immediately AND you can use them inside buildings. Really helps the game's pacing.
Team Plasma is based and Cyrus' plan is so high IQ that to this day no one know what he truly wanted to achieve.Also is it just me or is the music in this game amazing?The Plasma victory jingle, Cyrus' battle theme and the music that plays at the Survival Area are just some of the great pieces in this game.There were a few new features I didn't care about like poffins and going underground, but generally the new stuff was great, especially WiFi battles.The Battle Frontier isn't as cheap this time around and some of the facilites are fun, especially the Arcade and the Castle even if the RNG blatantly screws you over a couple of times.
Overall I'd have to give Platinum a 9/10.It has an amazing region, AWESOME starters, great music, a badass and actually menacing villainous team that isn't just a rehash of Team Rocket, the most advanced graphics for a Pokémon game at the time and loads of post-game content, not to mention online functionality back then.The best Pokémon game I've replayed so far. Hell, it even has a best girl Jasmine cameo! Isn't that neat?
