Let's talk about a good fantasy simulator indirect control game.
But I'm... just... a gnooome...
>>1711024I played the demo that came on the demo disc of my PC Gamer magazine when I was a kid. I remember it being pretty hard because I wasn't used to the whole indirect control aspect.
Love this game but I fucking suck at the harder levels.
>>1711024I'M MELTING
AT LAAAST
>sewage spawns next to wizard tower
>>1711814The pain of having your carefully catered to wizard dying to a random ratman
Leave my gold...alone...
>>1711024>reinstall majesty gold>dat art style did balance between original and expansion content>decide to avoid northern missionsIt’s not that bad just sticks out
>>1711024good ideas, shame about the balance
>>1712186What's wrong with Northern missions?I've had a blast in most of them.
>>1712186What do you mean even?>art styleYou either are saying they don't match, or that art style sucks overall, which makes no sense either way.>>1712186>>1712193>balanceMore difficult missions are more difficult or require the player to change his strategy, that's VERY cool. The only strange thing is that I remember beating the mission with the rival king by spamming the Chaos gods' followers and them destroying his base which didn't work the last time I replayed it because the Warriors of Discord would rather destroy their own dwelling for the enemy's monetary compensation. So I used the Law guys and accidentally won because the fights with my pretty much unkillable Monks sucked out all of his money since he kept spamming spells to try to kill them. And the Anvil of Krom or whatever about destroying the ancient burrows, now THAT was impossible even for me.
>>1712384>And the Anvil of Krom or whatever about destroying the ancient burrows, now THAT was impossible even for meThat was probably the hardest Expert mission for me. The key is to destroy last two/three burrows at the same time, which is doable with sufficient numbers of heroes and/or magic towers.
>>1712384I wasn't referring to the difficulty regarding game balance
>Finish all southern quests >Day of reckoning not unlockingThe fuck.... It's a bug or I need to finish other questsAlso how the fuck you beat>The Valley of the Serpents>Legendary Heroes>Balance of Twilight
From what I remember I beat every mission by going elves > fighters > krolm > spam krolm button with your elf gold.
>>1712561>Legendary HeroesHow do you even lose that? It's one of the easiest missions in the game.>Balance of TwilightThis mission is shit. You have to constantly build wizard towers and spam Farseeing>The Valley of SerpentsI remember that I also had a lot of trouble with this mission. But I don't remember how I completed it. Good luck
>>1711024Love Majesty but I've also completed it several times. Are there any good similar games?
>>1713334Dungeon keeper
>>1712924Excuse my stupidity. I thought that you meant Scions of Chaos when you said Legendary Heroes. Now I realize that it refers to what I thought was Balance of Twilight and that I've never finished the actual Balance of Twilight
80% of missions can be done with ease with sufficiently high number of ballista towers.Which is a shame because I prefer elves aesthetically.
>>1712219nta but the northern missions were more strategy and challenge (which is good) but less Fantasy Kingdom Sim (which is bad).I never felt like I was making a town or kingdom. Those missions are often an enemy/boss rush from beginning to end. Spamming heroes into the meat grinder till it worked.Or that's how I remembered it, anyway.
>>1714119The other 20% being the ones where you can't pick dwarves.
>>1714119Ballista towers don't kill lairs or level up
>>1716421They don't, but they are very effective in removing the difficulty of given map. I think their lack of cost incremention is the biggest balance oversight in the game.
>>1712561Valley of the Serpents: actually very fast mission. Upgrade your palace first, drop two markets, Dauros and a warrior's guild. Get some monks and paladins for the first wave. Use a Gate spell to defend the first elf hut. After that spam more paladins and other heroes and rush down all of the serpent lairs. Legendary Heroes: Build a blacksmith, recruit a solarus and a rogue then upgrade your palace. While fighting the goblin wave build two more markets, an inn, and an elf hut (need a lot of money fast to beat this mission so elf economy is best). Then build a wizard guild and a Temple of Agrela. and recruit those to trigger the next goblin wave and upgrade your palace to level 3. Now build an outpost. Once the outpost is complete demolish your Temple of Helia to move your solarus into the outpost. Now build a Temple of [Helia or Lunord], recruit a hero, and demolish the temple. Do this until the outpost is full. Then I get a monk and a paladin or two. Trading posts won't come under much attack (an occasional troll or minotaur) so they generate tons of cash with caravans. I like to find all six barrows before attacking them. Exploring with wizard towers and farsight is reliable but it can also be done with explore flags. Lightning Storm from the wizard tower is the best way to beat waves 1, 3, and 5.
>>1711024Sad the sequel was a 3d demake.
>>1716484What was wrong with the sequel?I can tell the voice lines are a downgrade but what about the mechanics?
Are gnomes just a complete trap?
>>1718746no, why?
>>1718770Seems like they just clutter the map while providing a very minimal benefit of saving you about 15 seconds at the start of the game
This game is proof that auto-battlers can be good if approached correctly
>>1718790I like having them repairing my shit all the time
>>1716555It looks aids, compared to the soul the first one had.
>>1718746Trap? Kinda felt like they were pretty powerful. They get all your buildings built and upgraded fast. The difficulty in most missions is in the first 5-10 minutes (outside of the northern expansion) and gnomes cut that time down a lot. Which is exactly why I avoid them. They make things too easy too quickly.
>>1718746They're good in multiplayer.
>>1719029If only the guard towers weren´t so overpowered tho.
>>1718746I think all three races are quite balanced. Or would be if ballista towers' costs scaled.
>>1716555I believe the enemy spawn rate is keyed to FPS so you get flooded with monsters for daring not to have a toaster for a PC. also being limited to one market is AIDS, and the persistent heroes mechanic is very expensive to actually use for anyone worth saving.
>>1716426In what missions? They help with base defense but base defense neither inherently wins a mission or wins it quickly. You're not going to get a great time if you focus on dwarves by default. I agree that no cost increase is bizarre considering every other building works that way
>>1724367To add onto my post, the last time I played I found it similar to paladins. On paper they're imba broken, sure, but in execution they take too long to get off the ground and make you accomplish your goal. Krolm is such a popular choice because his units are good, cheap, and his ability directly helps you in every single mission. Paladins and ballistae can stomp on the content but take too long to get the ball rolling.
>>1714447>original campaigYou win once you have 2 paladins.>northern expansionSkeletons, skeletons everywhere.
>>1724367They trivialise the mission where you assault another kingdom. Just spam ballista towers on every trade route to starve your enemy into submission.>>1724370What? You almost never die before you can get paladins out. Rangers are enough to defend you until you have paladins. Unless you are playing the goblin assault mission. Then build a few warriors first.
>>1724565>You win once you have 2 paladinsYou win once you get a tier 2 Palace.
>level 35 warrior of discord loses 1v1 to level 35 barbarian (and it's not even close)What a joke of a unit.
>>1713334there's Leviathan's Fantasy which i've been playing a lot of recently. I haven't played Majesty so I can't compare the 2 but i've seen others say if you like Majesty you might like this.Basically you create/run an MMO town. Make armor, weapons, provide training facilities, set bounties, and adventurers come to chill in your town and go out and fight monsters then come back and sell their loot to you. It's pretty fun. Pic related my little town
>>1714119Elves are a lot better than dwarves in my opinion. Three markets and three bungalows give you a massive economy. The elves themselves, even though you get fewer of them also do more than dwarves. Since they are speedy, barely ever die and do good damage.
>>1725534That's just a race to see who crits first.
>>1725565You're getting dwarfs for the tower spam not the actual dwarfs.Idk how you are supposed to do balance of twilight without rushing balistas
>>1724370Paladins are way more useful than barbarians, they are 1. Fast, 2. Extremely tanky starting at level 4.Barbarians do pack a punch, but they are too slow and too stupid. And they lock you out of a lot of options, since you aren't getting any of the other "clerical" classes. The real question is: Lunord or Helia
>>1725565Bungalows don't stack. But even so they are better, I agree.
>>1725568You don't build Krolm for the unit. Warriors + Wrath of Krolm beats every mission that doesn't involve dragon spam.
>>1725570I've never counted on it besides Brashnard's Spheres mission, the sound of KROOOOLM KROOOOOLM KROOOOOLM is just too annoying for me.
>>1725572For me it's the knocking on the door sound when you click on a house
>>1725577That's annoying as hell too.
Spamming Krolm's Wrath is also the only way to make Wizards useful since they become fast enough to run away from trouble.
>>1725587You can turn them invisible.
>>1725642I'm not babysitting those useless fucks.
I like Maj2 more.
Stop lying, no one likes Majesty 2 better than the first. You'll hardly find people that like it.
>>1725547>Leviathan's FantasyI tried this, waaay too Chinese for me. Had to refund. Felt the same way trying cultivation simulator.
>>1725567I've finished all missions without ballistae. It's very possible. If you go paladins you get acheap resurrection and if you go Krypta you have a wall of skeletons.
>>1725643You only need to do it for the first levels. Or just spam level 1 wizards. Or build a guard tower next to your wizard tower.
>>1726343Unless you built wizard towers fucking everywhere, you can't do that.
>>1726344Wizards get most of their early levels from spawns inside your city. Plenty of meat shields there. You could also use stoneskin, the Dauros spell. Or the tournament field.
>>1726907They don't get shit from the city and get killed by ratmen. Tournaments take forever.
>>1727026That's what you build a tower next to Sewers for, to draw ratmen aggro. If a sewer spawns in the map corner with no space to build a tower that's an instant restart for me. Can only happen in the first few minutes so not really a big deal.Anyway, distracted ratmen get blasted by wizards.>>1726907Fairgrounds are useless. By the time you've built one you've already long beaten the scenario. They're just there for fun.
>>1727162Or instead of jumping through all these stupid hoops to make wizards even remotely useable, I can just not make them. Or just spam Wrath so they can figure it out on their own, as I originally suggested.
>>1727163Building a tower next to a sewer isn't a hoop. You just let the rats run loose attacking peasants and tax collectors or something?
>>1727175I spam so many heroes that there's no feasible way to stop henchmen from getting killed by all the sewers. I just extort to get all my Krolm money.
>>1727176End game isn't really a concern to me. Any playstyle works. The towers on sewers is an early game thing.Since guilds cost more for each copy I see it as a reason to have at least one of each. That said, wizards are probably my least picked hero if a mission is really putting on the pressure. They're better in Majesty 2, anyway. Especially since their guild can enchant the weapons of other heroes. Plus they can form parties so they're less at risk.
Anyone ever try to pit each hero type against each other to see who comes out on top?
>>1726233The only people who dislike Majesty 2 are techlets who tried to play the game with uncapped framerate and ended up with broken enemy spawn rates raising the difficulty to the point where they got filtered hard
How do you beat Expert freestyle when the dragons arrive on day 2?
>>1727026>>1727162>Fairgrounds are too slow.Ah, I see the problem you guys have. Don't actually recruit wizards until you have a bunch of other heroes. By all means, built the tower earlier, as the spells and library are very useful. Bulld a guard tower close by too. You can usually cover one of your three starting markets with the tower too. Unless a rat happens to be literally on the doorstep of your wizard tower when Rincewind Jr. pops out he's usually going to be fine.
>>1727185Wizard towers can enchant weapons in Majesty 1 too, can't they?Personally I prefer wizards in Majesty 1 to those in 2. They don't die as often in the early levels ther, but mostly just because of the party system. If you let them run around alone they'll die in 2 as well. When they do it's a pain to get them back, as the graveyard is way, way more expensive than the 1.5k Agrela (pbuh) wants.
>>1727869Priestesses of Krypta.
>>1728497Just got a map where they arrived on day 0, literally no time to build anything other than a gnome hovel.
>>1728494>Wizard towers can enchant weapons in Majesty 1 too, can't they?Huh, they do. Completely forgot.
I feel like Legendary Heroes makes a very compelling case for the worthlessness of levels.
>>1728852Levels give HP and increases accuracy. That's massive.
>>1728917Evidently not since Legendary Heroes is the hardest mission in the game.
>>1728920Because every time you destroy a barrow you cause an earthquake and a large wave of monsters to spawn. Not because your heroes have higher levels.
>>1728931And you can't handle said large waves because you have 4x less heroes than you should.
>>1728934So why does that make levels on your heroes worthless?
>>1729005Because I'd rather have a lot of heroes than a few high level ones.
>>1729008You are an idiot.
>>1729041Nah that's you.
>>1729048No really. You don't know what useless means.
>>1729060Nope, still you.
>>1729061How are levels useless?
>>1729064Feel free to reread the post chain at your leisure.
>>1718746I prefer them in certain missions where you are under constant attack and really want the repairs. And what >>1720676 said, the difficulty with missions is in the first ~10 minutes.
>>1729065That would be futile as you are too low IQ to make a point.
>>1728497Those bitches can tank dragons for days.
>>1729100They csn tank anything ranged. Because skeletons have a great dodge skill and the attacks of the priestes heal the skeletons. Their attacks also heal the priestess of Krypta, which makes levels super valuable on them as that increases their health pool.
>>1729621>Their attacks also heal the priestess of KryptaThat's incorrect. Skeleton attacks do give exp to the controlling priestesses though. With dragons they level up hilariously quickly.
>>1729632I meant, the priestess heals herself with her own attacks. Should have been clearer.Yeah, priestesses are great. Kind of ridiculous actually. All those skelies everywhere protect your kingdom, they absorb dangerous monsters and let the priestesses do their magic damage.
>>1729783Paladins only come out ahead because they get Agrela healing. Fervus and his niggers don't pull their weight. Seriously, beyond his basic heal, what do his spells even do?Helia or Lunord goes to Lunord in my opinion. Scattering enemies and breaking up fights is a lot more useful than giving the demonwood slight sunburn. Priests of Lunord are also fast enough to be a quick response force everywhere, while Helias priestesses work at the guards towers, i.e. where you already have defenses.Real question. What's the coomer choice?
>>1730026Dark side only gets 1 female (Priestess) vs 2 on light side (Healer and Paladin), but Priestess is best girl so we'll call it a tie
>>1730026His vine spell can be clutch but it's pretty expensive. Just stuns an enemy without giving them the protection petrify does. Useful for stopping a boss long enough for your meat shields to turn up.
>>1729783The skeletons are only good against dragons, they fold fast against everything else. The priestesses themselves are weak and fragile even at high levels.
>>1730078Each priestess has several skeletons and her attacks do heal them. She also isn't that weak with levels as she has life leech and healing potions and she reconjures skeletons.
>>1730179I know. And they still manage to suck.
>>1730186Fervus' priests suck
>mission starts me with a temple>destroy it and build Krolm
>>1730206They are OK scouts. Usually they try fight shit way to strong for them in bear form and die when it runs out. Having a bazillion skeletons and assorted monsters running around reveals the map pretty quick.I also like the "pretty star" when they level up as if they are semi aware they're in a game
>>1711024Majesty 1: A comfy fantasy kingdom simulator.Majesty 2: The battle of Verdun, fantasy edition. What were they thinking? In some missions you can barely get your first heroes out before the drake swarms descent upon you.
>>1732970>Majesty 1: A comfy fantasy kingdom simulator.
>>1732976>One mission out of 30>in the more difficult expansion pack
>>1732980I mean fair, but that was quite a kick in the nuts. And there is at least couple more which can get you run for your money. Especially if you don't rely on Krom
>>1732985True, some missions can get challenging. The challenge however comes from special events such as monster attack waves or dark phantoms roaming the map. Your kingdom itself is quite peaceful though. Once a minute or so a rat spawns from each sewer grate, which is easily handled by your guards.Majesty 2 spits enemies at you even in your own base. To the point that you need to cover every sewer exit with guard towers or your buildings will get destroyed. It also sends a lot more and more dangerous spawns at you. Even background spawns like monsters wandering in from the edge of the map can be dangerous. Your guards and towers are almost constantly under attack. To the point that a nest spawned attack wave overwhelming a single tower can be a serious problem.Just yesterday I played a mission where an ogre camp spawned attacks. The ogres moved so slow that I could see the next ogre on the map before the first was half dead.
>>1733006I wasn't really planning to argue, just remembered about some Majesty 1 missions which were really far away from "comfy simulator."Perhaps "comfy" is quite a different term to many, nowadays it's used for a bit a lot of things which don't have much of gameplay to offer. So I kinda never attributed "comfiness" to Majesty tho I understand why some might.Didn't play 2 much, so wasn't arguing against 2 being better or worse. At least it still has George Ledoux.Did they fix DLC stuff tho?
>>1733033What do you mean fix DLC stuff? All addons work fine on my machine.
>>1734894Hm, just due threads like this I assumed it is kinda broken, I should stop talking out of my ass, my badhttps://steamcommunity.com/app/73020/discussions/0/648814738467878171/https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/majesty-2-collector-dlc-fix.983538/Also turns out my saves got wiped out, seems like they are in install folder and easy to wipe.
Why did they have to fuck up the sequel so much
>>1730257>it's the mission where you fight against the temple of Krolm
>>1736845What did they fuck up?
>>1736858
