Is there any other trading games liek Patrician 3 or Port Royale 2, where you lead a trading company? Doesn't have to be ships only. Or this it?
>>1758519freelancer does trading in space but you pilot the ship and defend against pirates
This is it
There are quite a few, like The Guild series. For me it's Trade Empires. It's a little different from Patrician and Port Royale, but it's pretty nice and fun.
>>1758519The Merchant Prince games. They're trading games mixed with more Machiavellian vying for power.
>>1758948How do you even play this? I tried installing it from abandonware and it bugs out.>>1759045I'll take a look.
>>1758948Came to post this game>>1759112There are two copies in circulation, one with bugged patch, nad one that works. If you are willing to wait, I can offer the working one on Sunday evening, when I will be back from a weekend trek.Keep in mind that Trade Empires is a very straighforward game in design, but it's intentional - it was designed to teach kids and teens how monopolies and various other market structures work and how prices rarely represent value of various commodities
>>1759158> it was designed to teach kids and teens how monopolies and various other market structures work and how prices rarely represent value of various commoditiesIn fact I loved it as a kid back in the days.
this game is very text heavy but its also very good
>>1760125Too bad it relies on dice rolls for literally everything.
>>1759045Thanks for the recommendation My /lit/, /his/ and /vst/ interests might be satiated.
>>1760125It's knockoff sunless seas. Travel in the wrong place (no indication of which dangerous sounding places are the actually dangerous places) and you face dice rolls that are straight up "save or die" it's so bad.
>>1758519There's NOTHING as good as patrician 2/3
>>1766172Grim
>>1760125Excessively punishing. The game despises the idea of you making a profit and will do everything it can to fuck you in the ass. It's a real shame because there are lots of nice little stories in it and plenty to explore and discover.
>>1758948>>1759045I love how these old games always have soulful reviews by some dedicated playerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqvGaWSMmgshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsJMXQQyHG4
I'm playing Port Royale 2, I like it but the combat is being 1 ship only is kinda lame.
>>1758948This. Play Guild when you get tired of boat.
I remember playing this one when it came out and really liked the concept but the game was not that good. Have been looking for something similar but done well ever since - growing a global naval trading empire
Back from the pirate's nest, My tower destroyers failed, so I had to brute-force it. A zero sum endeavour
>>1758519Uncharted Waters franchise
>>1758524endless sky is better
>>1769065Did you use the cheat where you unlock every townfrom the start?
>>1769287There is a 40 towns map out there, I didn't use cheats.
>>1769300as far as I remember the original game didn't let you load these maps
>>1769321Works on my machine since 15 years, just pirate nests can be annoying to catch because they overlap with Edinburgh and you have to try like 20 times and you get no mission to found you own city.
Sea dogs series and its medieval brother Mount and blade lets you be a trader but thats more of a passive/supplmentary income Sea dogs you could have up to 3 extra ships following you for trading purposes. A Russian 1.3 for Sea Dogs 2 patch even added slaves as goods commodity. Mount&Blade lets you out right create merchant caravans and be a merchant caravaneer yourself. Also has batshit dynamic economy which changes prices according to supply and demand.
>>1769421Did they also fix the problem with the distribution of the produced goods? As far as I remember when you clicked all towns at once every single one had only like 2-3 effecicely produced goods
>>1769599The have on average 6 efficient goods.
>>1758519Caravaneer 1&2Dust to the End
bumping good thread
>>1759045Dusted off DOSBox to play this again, I'm so fucking pissed because I don't know if it's a bug or something but I got a thing where every time I acquire a Senator they get strung up for treason the exact next turn, doesn't even matter if I get an honest one that costs a fortune or a disgruntled one. I have good popularity and haven't done any hostile actions to any other Venetian family, and always done my job for the republic, but literally less than a single turn my Senators last; other factions can literally misuse the army and go galavanting off while Florintines or Genoans directly attack fucking Venice, while their Senators sit forever. It's fucking bullshit and I hate it and ruins the game for me every time.
>>1769454The main mod maker went so far as to recode the engine now called the Maelstrom Engine so it works better on modern systems. They only release the Eras 2 mod updates for that engine. I know the game has a markets table but I don't know how much balance is given to trade mechanics
>>1769454Didn't they release some remastered version? Should I get that or the original one with the Russian mod?
>>1758519there is an android game called Pirates and Traders which is pretty good, although it only lets you control one ship. the sequel with fleets is in beta but the dev is really lazy
>>1758519Bumo
Best ways to jumpstart my new play though? What are the best opening moves? I seem to remember old YouTube videos featuring ways of gaming the system to get massive fast, but can’t seem to find those now. Would also like to try a pirate play through, if that is feasible.
>he never played tradewinds
>>1781273>repair heavily damaged hulk>180 days of repairing left
tfw too scatterbrained to focus on this game. I really like it but don't get enjoyment out of it.
>>1781307I just do a few round-trips and it makes me rich fast.Take note of what's cheap and where and you gucchi. The better advice would be to stock on construction materials early, as those quickly become scarce.
yea
>>1787304Why's there a piss jar on the table?
>>1788851Cause that's where you keep it if you're not weird
>>1788851It’s wine from London, bought at a bottom price of 175. Can sell it for 485 in most other cities.
This game would be sick with a classical Greek reskin ala Master of Olympus: Zeus and Poseidon.
You might like Merchants of Kaidan. Can't be arsed to post screens, just google it, its honestly great. I binged it years ago, now that I think of it I might do it again.
Which is better for someone new to the series but not management games, Patrician 3 or 4?
>>1769065I have a question. The date on your screenshot says 1301 and my understanding is that naval combat is age of sail combat with artillery in the patrician series right? If so it's about 200-300 years ahead of the period the game plays.
>>1795907Well, the game starts with Ballistas and catapults, but their shots are all abstracted to look like canons and you can very quickly develop to reach canon production.
>>1798731But canon were not used on ships in the way this game depicts until the late 1500s and even then most of what it depicts is 1600s
>>1799322I guess they mostly used a few single large systems on the deck until the late 15th century, when they started mounting many smaller units in a broadside configuration.
>>1792292>Merchants of Kaidaninteresting recommendation, thanks. up for something like a boardgame.
>>1792292>>1802889>Mechants of KaidanIs this a Settlers of Catan rip off?
>>1769122Seconding this, particularly the second one
>>1758524Incredibly based.
hows port royale 3?
>>1803326Not bad per se, but it feels easier than Port Royale 2 and kinda soulles. You can be your own pirate faction though, and that's kino. In any case, way better than the horrible port royale 4.
>>1803039It's more of an event based rpg. Map with a bunch of towns and villages, supply and demand, work your way up in the merchant world buying more carts and moving up in ranks. Slow and laid back (if you manage your Blind God luck).
>>1769122>>1803051check out Sailing Era if you want something new to scratch that itch, way better than i expected from a chinese spiritual successor.
>>1759158Yo anon can you post the working version?
