which strategy will break FM25 first?
new game will be built on the unity engine, leaving FM24 behind on whatever it's built on.

Iirc the underlying match engine isnt changing, the unity engine is primarily for UI changes. Something like unity will allow them to more easily communicate what the match engine and everything else running in the background is doing. I think they said fm26 is where the match engine will get an upgrade / rebuild because its all just spaghetti code that nobody understands anymore

>>1807094
/sp/ moves too fast for /trb/. FM is far more autistic a strategy game than any paraslop that fills this slow arse board

Just got fm24 and will probably skip 25 until I see the new engine/ui.

Anyway, I have a problem with being a broke club in the Bulgarian league and failing to make any real money. Two seasons in a row I got to the conference league qualifying round and both times draw the two Serbian top dogs who trash me 4-1 easy. How do I make money fm bros?
>>
>>1807348
new engine is likely to be a buggy mess

make money with pre-season friendlies, limiting wage as much as possible, and selling players.
>>
>>1807121
>>1807210
>Iirc the underlying match engine isnt changing, the unity engine is primarily for UI changes
I was just under the impression after the runtime fee fiasco last year that devs had lost faith in Unity and were looking to other engines. Guess after the backpedalling it didn't hurt them that much.
>>
>>1807420
i have no idea what the current game is coded on desu.
>>
>>1807364
Yeah, unlike the current game which is completely free of ten year old bugs.
>>
>>1807210
but UI in unity is pixelated and clunky lmao. take for example unity slop like among us, genshin impact, only up, crab game etc. also even a simple ui was so bloated performance wise last time i used it in 2021
for a game with 90% of the time being a UI gameplay, it'll cause nausea to look at
i guess by re writing their stuff in unity. they'll benefit from graphics (obviously), considerable match engine performance boost, way easier scalability and familiarity for new employees and naturally more employees would be eligible to hire, "game juice" for their ui, c# modules and addons, way easier to push an update or a patch as well as publishing in literally any platform
bonus point: oh well this is a major blunder and a dub for us bc it'll be easier to decompile an unity game and it'll be a great learning material for cooders, football database for other purposes too, and people will finally see how the game (match engine) actually works

When you guys get promoted, what positions do you guys focus on improving? I usually go after attackers and midfielders first then a gk if I feel I need it. I'm of the idea I'd rather win some fluky games and draws by scoring more than trying to sit back and give up shots to teams better than me. Then if I stay up upgrade the defense.

fm24 is the "final" version of what FM has been since like FM10. mostly QOL stuff, with things like data hub and transferroom intermediary being the most noticeable improvements. otherwise it's still the same match engine underneath so gegenpress is still dominant.

>Goodbye Inbox, Hello Portal
>Another facet of our UI work has been studying the constant evolution in the way people interact, communicate, and consume information. Historically the screen that people spend the most time on in FM has been the Inbox – essentially, your in-game email. For a while, this has felt quite old school given that modern football managers spend way more time on their phones than laptops.

>So, welcome to what we now call your “Portal”.

>The Portal will be a richer window to the wider footballing universe. It’ll give you far better tools to develop your story through the Agenda and Messages sections, but also deliver you more insight into what’s happening elsewhere via News and Matches.

I wish I knew what I was doing in these games. I always pick some low-end club in the middle of no-where and try to do my best and it kind of goes okay. But it'd be nice if I could get a grip on what to do. It seems like there's almost no feedback on what you're doing until you get to a match, and even then it's hard to tell how much it was RNG, how much it was inadequate match preparation/training, how much is was wrong tactics, and how much it was skill difference in teams.

Sorry lads, since when did we migrate here?

>>
>>1822221
It's the harmony between your tactics and your player attributes. Like sure you can schedule set pieces or penalties when it matters. But the vast majority of the game will be your team trying to dominate through passing or pressing. Hell you can bang in 30 goals a season from set pieces by simply having your guys all be 17+ jumping reach and strength.

You can slowly build up a player who doesn't like big matches by putting him in high pressure matches and having him do well (7+ match rating). So really at the end of the day you want your players to be as good as possible in as many attributes that fit your tactic. Physicals everywhere if you can, vision passing work rate and such in key spots. You'll eventually keep winning, get money to buy players who now care about your team because your rep had gotten better. And don't forget to add depth. The AI simply doesn't rotate unless their starting 11 is dead so you can snag points when they drop.
>>
>>1822320
That's good advice, thanks. What about when you're a super poor club full of amateurs and kind of crappy backroom staff? Would you just hyperfocus training on one particular aspect with the limited amount of coaching you can get to get an edge in that area over the other amateur clubs?
>>
>>1822324
When you're that far down the pyramid training doesn't really matter much because if you win promotion, you're just gonna replace half the squad anyway with better players. So focus on loans, free players and some youth that you can play lots and hopefully sell on.

Anywho, meme runs:
1. FC Vaduz to champions league - for the honour of lichtenstein
2. Take over Balkan FC in Sweden's 4th tier, take the team to the top and only have a team of balkanoids. No native sw*des allowed. Use the editor to make Zlatan Ibrahimovic a club legend and name a stadium after him.

Get an english lower leagues DB for these ones:
3. Take FC Isle of Man up to the top of the prem and win the CL, bonus points for absolutely broken Manx regens
4. Take Sheffield FC, oldest association club in history to the top and bully every other yorkshire club.

German lower leagues db needed
5. Hoenecker's Heroes - take BFC dynamo from the oberliga nord-ost to the CL. Bonus points for using it as a "build the nation" by building a loan farm and only loaning to clubs *from* the former DDR (so not RB Leipzig). Only recruit from your academy or the former eastern bloc

French lower leagues needed:
7. French Bilbao - take Aviron Bayonaise to the top, only sign basque players or french u17s

MILES YOU GODDMAN PIECE OF SHIT SELL YOUR FUCKING GAME HERE

>>1824991
Yeah, that's an ongoing problem, but they did manage to get through these by just renaming teams to 'fantasy-themed' ones and changing the colors. It's not like people play this game without logo packs anyway. Even EA has been doing this for years for people that don't play European clubs, and that's one of the reasons I never played a single FIFA game without mod packs because of my focus going to South America.

The only company that did it right was Konami prior to the new rebranding eFootball game, where they did their best to get licenses from almost anything they could (which makes me wonder how the others didn't). That's one of the reasons I blame SI for giving up in secondary markets like here in Brazil. I'd still buy it though, since the last one I had was 16 and now the game is 'banned' here, but more because of them not giving a shit.

Why force right? The boy in lb is not as good in defence?
>>
The great dumbing down begins.

Don't get me wrong, it's been built upon crappy foundations and the match engine was always completely unfit for purpose. But this is a dreadful choice and the obviously lazy option.

It needed a brand new purpose built engine designed specifically for what this game tries toi do, instead they're going to try and shoehorn a deep complex vision into a generic garbage tier FPS platform.

The matches will look great but it's going to be a shallow as hell mobile game for the attention deficit disorder generation.
>>
>>1828431
they are U12, nobody can use their left foot so forcing them on it will cause errors. it also just gives the principle of not being flat on defense.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense. I'm really fascinated by how things work irl (as opposed to adjusting sliders and shit). How do you give them tactical instructions in a way accessible to them? Most 12 year old don't have a strong attention span
>>
>>1828842
so last year i had the 4th/5th team of the age group, real not great skill wise, basically no tactical instruction for defenders or the striker. midfielders/wingbacks were told they have to get all the way up and down [rarely dropped back to defend lol] and cdm's job was to keep everything in front of him.
this year i have the 3rd team [academy] and it'll basically be the same except they are decent and will understand better.
it's very tricky with kids because yeah they don't listen. one of my wingbacks just played as an inside forward most the time which left everyone out to dry.

The game peaked before the introduction of a match engine. If you can't successfully recreate something that convinces, allow the players imagination to do the job.

But they aren't aiming this game at actual tacticians, only at idiot kids and eye candy addicts. There will be massive DLC onslaught too.

You should raid relegation release clauses across europe. Thats what i did in my Dynamo Dresden run. I got out of 3 Liga in 1 season and then spent 2 seasons in 2BL to squad build. Quality difference between top 2BL and mid table BL isnt that different, its getting beyond that which is the challenge.

Its a good club with great facilities which was always handy.

poking around the editor and some googling, it seems certain cities and clubs are hard coded to have diverse youth academy. I know london based clubs will get lots of africans and carribbean players.

english clubs closer to wales will get some there. I guess if you want a whites only intake you would have to go into the editor and shift your club's city into a more rural "local region". then be really selective about any affiliate clubs for your youth recruitment.

Football Manager World Cup is on soon btw
>>
>>1836479
>There are 4 groups with 5 managers in each group. Managers in the same group have to use the same team, but each group uses a different team. The teams being used are: Yokohama F Marinos, Brighton, Sporting CP, and Dinamo Zagreb. The winner of the group will be the person who achieves the best league, cup, and continental finishes with that team over the course of 3 in-game seasons. The Manager who finishes top of each group will advance to the Semi-Final.

>The semi-final is a standard draft tournament, where all 4 managers will draft players to form their teams, and then fight each other in a standard knockout tournament with each round lasting two legs.

>Day 1 - August 28th
>>Managers also have 3.5 hours today in order to organise their squad, create tactics, create shortlists, etc. However, transfers in the first window are banned.

>Day 2-4 - August 29th - August 31st
>>Each day the groups will play for one season for 9 hours which are split in to three 3-hour windows.
>>You can keep track of all players individually by heading to FIFA.gg. From there you can click on each individual player to watch their POV.

>At the end of each day at 8pm, FIFAe will stream press conferences with each of the managers to get their thoughts and feelings on their twitch channel. However on Day 4 FIFAe will be streaming from 4pm and will do a catchup on the tournament so far for the first hour before doing an official broadcast of the final 3 hours of the group stage starting at 5pm. The press conferences will then commence at 8pm.

>Zealand will be streaming a watch along on his own channel for the first three days where he will be keeping track of all the individual streams, as well as walking around the playing area and conducting interviews with participants.

>Day 5 - September 1st
>>The draft will begin at approximately 10am which will be streamed on FIFAe's Twitch channel, with the tournament itself kicking off at 2pm and lasting until 5:30pm.
>>
Lots of streams live on Twitch right now from the FM World Cup - Zealand, WorkTheSpace, RDFTactics, and many more. Check out the Football Manager 2024 category if you want to watch.

Won the league 10 times with a Finnish team before moving to Scotland and it pains me to see how badly the AI has fucked up my team. I had tons of money in the bank but didn't spend that much because I wanted to build a new stadium, the AI comes in and immediately sells all of my players and buys overrated trash on higher wages than I ever gave out. Now they've finished between 3rd and 5th for 3 years despite spending 4x the salary of the league winner. I guess the fans will remember me in an even better light after seeing the new managers come in, though.

Front Office Football is too spreadsheet-y desu. I barely remember my players because they have nothing that stand out. And the draft itself it's pretty underwhelming and breaks immersion with how rookies are generated
>>
>>1838336
For it's faults it's the only game that lets you build an offense that can win with everything between running the wishbone to empty set. What killed it for me was 8's busted trade system and the completely gutted trade system in 9 that doesn't let you make player for player trades. I actually didn't mind the draft and rookie generation. The bars usually lie and combine stats give you good enough hints at who's going to be a bust. There's a tool that puts everyone in the draft into a spreadsheet and it trivializes who's likely to be good based on those patterns.

Removing weight because women are in the game now sounds like a dumb joke. Spending money on adding women's football that nobody cares about is a retarded decision, especially when you already have a lot of extra work switching to a new engine, but I guess they just can't resist making themselves look more like clowns every day.

>>
>>1841989
It's all because they are hinging on variable weight gains/losses but doing it more frequently than once a season. They don't want people to think they're sexist by having women balloon from like 115lbs to 200 because they surely won't have 2 separate ranges for men and women.

Fm25 is definitely behind schedule. Even if we give them the benefit of the doubt and say they had already been working in unity since early 2023, then they must have believed they could have developed the game faster in a more commercially available engine. Until their inexperience and feature creep kicked in and lost track of time. Better off waiting until fm27 when removed features have another year of development when they return for fm26.

i know one of the devs, and he's furious about what's going on. several senior members of the team have left over the past few years due to the way the game has been butchered. In his words it's all smoke and mirrors, the AI is non existent, what you do in training and with tactics has no real impact on the matches are calculated.

The base code is a disastrous mess, some of it going back 20 years or more. With the business model being they release a 'new' version every 12 months and the reality being they release a copy [paste of the same game with a blend of minor cosmetic hanges, database update and some shoehorned in bloat to convince retards to buy it again.

the result is an absolute clusterfuck of broken and botched code.

Nobody as SI knows how to deveolop a game, there are no game designers or real programmers there, they are all tinkerers with a bit of understanding of one particular area of the code. So many people have been involved over the years, with many now gone that it's like untrained archaeologists trying to make sense of a pile of rubble buried in the sand.

He says the switch to Unity means they are desperately trying to code new systems as they discover the impossibility of making what they have now somehow fit within a new framework.

Also Sega insists that womens football is in, even though nobody except a few lesbians and trannys who don't game are demanding it. Massive amount of resources being wasted there when the foundations of the game are completely broken.
>>
After what just happened to Concord, I can tell you there is massive panic at SI. there is also massive levels of denial.

I for one am looking forward to watching the wheels finally come off, and the fraud that is Miles Jacobson exposed as the absolute bullshitter he is.

>>1842669

>>
>>1842670
Nobody plays it because it's so broken anyway, though I would've much rather than spent time on that than the womens side that not even everyone will try once, let alone anymore than that
>>
>>1841992
And the reason nobody plays international management is that it is a horrible mess to work with. They couldve rebuilt it and more people would play it, instead we get women.

>>1841989

>>
Miles talks about how you're going to be able to "seamlessly" move between the mens and womens game. What that smells like to me is you're going to be forced to load womens DBs when you load a country's leagues, meaning your player count is going to go up significantly for numerically fewer leagues. Its going to be unavoidable bloat that only serves to make your experience inferior, like women's football
>>
>>1842676

>>1842683

>>
>>1842686
The problem is that people think graphics matters at all with games like this.

The engine, the AI and the underlying systems that all go towards making the engine, the detail and depth of the simulation and the ability to convince the player that realty is being represented in the data long before graphics are needed to present the data, these are the only things that matter with strategy games.

ALL the great strategy games look like shit, this will look nice but the magic under the hood will be gone.
>>
>>1842690
I agree entirely, and I expect that they've also likely somehow fucked the match engine up in the process of porting it
>>
>>1842690
>>1842691
All i ask is for regens that do not look like someone who eats cement on a daily basis. You cannot tell me that the faces have been on a constant decline
>>
>>1842691
oh yeah, the current game is already a mess, the AI is already garbage, the match engine has always been bad - but they managed to stitch it all together in a way that at least made it acceptable to paly, if frustrating and unconvincing.

Like another anon above said, they've had to unravel the years old spaghetti code that was held together with staples and super glue, and attempt to reassemble it within the confines of an entirely incompatible digital infrastructure.

The game is necessarily going to be extremely shallow and barebones, the question is whether it will deliver enough of an immersive experience to keep players immersed?

My sense is that it's going to be a disaster.

Anyone who actually knows football understands that mens football and womens football are two entirely different games.

>Mens football is a multi billion dollar industry
>Wamens football wouldn't survive 5 minutes without the millions pumped into it from the mens game and the constant forced media shilling
>The gulf that separates the two in terms of quality is enormous, with top tier womens teams regularly losing in matches against schoolboys, The greatest womens player wouldn't get into an average mens sunday league team.
>The physical differences are also immense, you only need to see a what a tranny on oestrogen can do to a top woman athlete in the boxing ring. Male football players are no trannys, they are top tier alpha male athletes with strength, stamina and speed that would allow them to destroy even the she hulk in a fight.
>The skills, men have better hand eye coordination, they have better motor skills, so technically they shit all over the women

I hope all this is reflected in the new engine.

lol. As if that means anything
For years they said the same about touch line shouts but now they’ve removed it and admitted it didn’t actually do anything.
The whole game is a series of placebo fugazi bullshit. Click anything you like, play any tactic you like, say anything you like in press conferences and ultimately the match engine will spit out the exact same types of goal every time, with more going to the side that presses high and has pacey forwards (despite most of the goals on the match engine not coming from counter pressing or through balls in behind)
The whole thing is a joke. Even fifa is less broken at this point

Are there ANY meaningful additions to the game this year besides women's football?
>>
>>1842967
>(despite most of the goals on the match engine not coming from counter pressing or through balls in behind)
Isn't FM post-20 notorious for most goals coming from balls in behind with CBs slower than snails?
>>
This reminds me of what happened to PES circa 2014. Moved to a new engine as the old one was increasingly out of date, the game ends up feeling like a sterile tech demo and takes years to get back to something decent (before being turned into freemium esport garbage not long after).
>>
fm23 and 24 are literally the same wtf?
>>
>>1843012
There might be a 2D simulation of the game playing between the 3D highlights based on a single screenshot?

There's a portal thing instead of an inbox, that mite b cool.

Oh and it has Premier League sponsorship, that will save a bit of time I guess...
>>
>>1843024
FM 24 has some cool player positioning stuff. Wouldn't want to go back to 23.

Womens football is a meme. Several International womens sides have been beaten in warm up games against schoolboys (yes, womens International teams prepare for tournaments by playing school children)

womens football exists because of the millions of bicks poured into it from the mens game, they train at mens teams facilities, play in mens teams stadia, they suckle on the teat of the mens game in order to simply survive. Crowds are tiny and often they open the gates for free just to get some people to come and watch.

So, to say the addition of womens football is meaningful is absurd. But it does raise some questions...

>Will they simulate the massive differences in physical traits between men and wamen?
>Will they simulate the absenced of spatial awareness and it's impact upon womens ability to read the game and thereby create clever openings?
>Will they simulate the financial systems, which is basically weekly cash injections from the mens football club they are attached to?
>Will womens football be shitter than schoolboy football, which it is in real life?
>Will womens football be played in near empty stadia with just the shrill voices of the handful of school kids bussed in and some butch bull-dyke larpers?

If it does it realistically then it might actually be interesting, like managing a non league team is now. But even worse quality of football and lower levels of physicality.

But they wont, the match engine will be exactly like the mens, with Leo Messi type players and full crowds of 80k men lol

SI is dead.

Hi, Miles here, but sorry chud the 3 wamen they'll get to buy FM mobile will make it all worth it. For you chuddies we've added in full PL licencing which cost an absolute bomb following feedback we received from our target demographic of fifabrained consoleplebs who cant download name and logo fixes. It was due to these extra Licencing costs, both for the PL and womens game that weve decided we need to cut features. Our console and mobile customers never load more leagues than top flight spain, england, italy, france and germany so now these will be the only playable leagues at launch to accomodate the database bloat that is the mandatory addition of female players to your DB. Other leagues will be sold as DLC to our PC player base so you can support our ongoing development of FM mobile and FM console. We also made the decision to remove international management given the resources spent on aforementioned licencing meant we were unable to give it the full rebuild it needs to make it a playable experience, and a realistic experience (ie: england keeps winning in the current version).

Make sure you preorder.

- Miles

Honestly based. Touchline shouts are placebo, social media screen is ultra low effort, I have never seen the data chalkboard in 10k+ hours, create a club never done, versus mode never touched, challenge mode never touched, fantasy draft never touched, international management was awful and had zero depth, if they put some actual time into it that'll be a win for all of us

i don't think anybody ever played online modes, i COULD see the appeal for it if they actually made it worthwhile, would need an overhaul obv

defenders and keepers simply cannot handle the high press. that's why gegenpress has been king for like 5 versions. and why the 424 dm has been the cheese formation for fm24

I waste an hour of sleep just to plow through July and get to real matches just so I don't quit a save.

Not that unthinkable nowdays for a CB like him to be a backup in a top team irl. Top team strongly prefer a ball playing CB even if they aren't as defensively solid as this guy.

go to staff responsibilities->staff->contracts and hand it off to your DoF or Technical director. Both are essentially the same, although the former is meant for player negotiation and the latter for staff.
>>
>>1845845
I just do that at the start of a save and never have to really spend time on it again. Hire decent staff on day one, set your DoF to renew their contracts, and occasionally put a job advert up if they retire or get poached by another club.

It's going to be worse than a disaster. It's going to kill SI.

A rival needs to come up with a simpler better game, fuck the licenses and all the glitter and bullshit, just a well constructed foundation that can be fleshed out and developed over time.

The entirety of Earths football loving gamers and even some football hating strategy management enjoyers have been waiting for 40 years.

Take it back to the beginning, simple systems that make sense and interact with one another in ways that are logical. Randomized team and player names, a solid economical model, simple tactics and training, and a bare bones match engine that gives the player meaningful feedback.

That's all people want, the basics done well. FM doesn't even do the basics well, it just happens to be the only cunting game in town. The genre and the player base are ripe for a hostile takeover. Devs are out there burning mountains of cash in order to roll the dice on the next big thing, well this is fucking it!!!

you should let your kids have fun in attack, try to dribble, try to shoot from outside the box, they need to limit test at this age since results mean jackshit for at least 2 more years.

yeah i tell them to shoot from anywhere if they have even a little bit of space.
games this weekend went terribly, two losses 5-3 and 1-8, midfield is the biggest issue, just watching the defense play 3v4 instead of back tracking

Yes it didn’t I tried it on 6 games I don’t understand why it wouldn’t work. My players will just pass into no one and will shoot birds

One game I had 3.4 xg and lost 2-0 this game is insufferable

how the fuck do you stop your players passing back to an offside corner taker

>>1848987
stop watching extended highlights and you can pretend it isn't happening

That's usually mean you are only familiar with tactical principles of 433 formation. It's hard to workshop a working custom tactics if you don't know the strength and weakness of a particular formation in the first place.

>>
>>1849294
Pseudo-tactician.

Formation is only a small part of it, what about the players in each position and their strengths and weaknesses? Or the opponents formation? What about player instructions? Or player instructions relative to team instructions? Or player instructions relative to team instructions in contrast to the opponents player instructions relative to their teams instructions in relation to their formation and how it sits against yours?
4-3-3 ain't going to do shit against a 4-1-2-1-2 asymmetrical gegenpress fluid counterattacking side with flying wing backs you absolute spacker.

And we didn't even talk about player stats, physical, mental, technical and hidden?

You can't '''''create''''' a tactic that has the answer to all these questions and more, every match is it's own entity with hundreds of thousands of variables that all play a part.
