The graphics aged like milk, no idea what you are talking about. They were bad when the game came out and are even worse nowadays.

And graphics are probably the least important bit on why that game is weird at best, terrible on average.

It's a soul-less cash grab by Ubisoft (like all their HoMM) games done by half-assing Russians. The AI is brain-dead, it takes 3rd party mods to make the game remotely playable due to shit-tier coding and AI taking forever to make its (awful) moves, the changes to gameplay trivalise it, and the one thing that always made HoMM stand out - the setting - was just turned into the most genetic "humans-elves-demons-orks-dwarves" imaginable.

Fuck that game. And fuck people who still delude themselves it was good. Just because 6 was even worse doesn't make 5 good, you retards.

I think the creators of later HoMM games didn't get that HoMM isn't a tactics game
the neutral encounters are very basic (could be better)
and should be better

the way they done it with big creatures taking 4 spaces
the big creatures would just block everything and archers clean up stacks of weaker units across the map
and units that can heal would make sure that the big units don't fall too soon or at all
sieging a town or anything else would turn out a nightmare in that scenario
and it would kill creature variety since you no longer look for cool creatures but MMO trinity types

also imagine catering to slavs who turbo abuse the AI of a 1999 game
when I play with or against AI I want them to have a chance and not mop the floor with them
it just makes no fucking sense and they have been doing that since 2002 up until Olden Era release 2025

they need to decide if they want a casual game or tactics
it's not even hard to make a good HoMM game just look at Kings Bounty (Legend)
instead of shitting out HoMM clones how about making something more original

like doesn't auto chess exist and have hexes
you could easily make a linear story game like KB but auto chess themed
collect chess pieces (creatures) on the overworld or whatever

I cant do it... I did the army gathering instead of crown, I got 15 black dragons. Watched some videos and they get like 5 more dragons from the map but they never spawned for me even though I restarted a few times

I'm working on an indie game with combat based on Heroes 2. I've made a turn based system based on unit speed and different units can travel different amounts of hexes. Any suggestions for how to improve on or fix problems with Heroes combat?

Like other anon said I think a bigger pc gaming culture is a big part of it.

Maybe it's big in some asian countries too, but they're just not on 4chan.
I think in eastern asia they'd be in small relative numbers though, overshadowed by other gamers.

Large parts of europe are clumbed together, but I think homm is probably big in estonia, lithuania and latvia as well.
Might not come across as many gamers from there, due to small populations, but if you'd go hommgamers/capita I think they'd stand out.

We had 7 people from poland, and only 6 in scandinavia+finland, but if you consider the population it implies it's even relatively more popular in the north. Again tho, a small sample size on 4chan, so nothing conclusive.

Also curious if homm might be relatively more popular compared to other games in Romania and Hungary, compared to western europe and the US.

In og homm2, there are no dwellings for a few neutral creatures, like elementals.
So if you have expert diplomacy, you can never get them like you can get other creatures to join you.
That goes for ghosts too.
The homm2 expansion added dwellings for them and a cost, so now you can buy them through diplomacy, and ghost is an awfully designed unit that snowballs too fast.

Feel of the campaign doesn't feel good, no attachment to the story, the maps didn't look interesting to me either.

t. touristfag who never touched HOMM, but I played a little bit of King's Bounty at a Gamestop once many years ago. I didn't know what it was at the time because I didn't catch the name of the game, so for a while I'd think back wondering what was that game I played where you moved a horse around by clicking on the screen like in Starcraft. Then a few years ago I finally found out what that game was, and learned a bit about HOMM3 along the way. It's on my backlog, I'll get to it eventually
