Sorry, Danes and Polacks, we have to put the Chinese in AoM while it still has a playerbase
>>1870720>danes>polacksboring.
>>1870720aoe3 gets expansions?
Is this game better than IV?
>>1870871No but it's better than AoM. I've played all the Age of series and AoE III DE is actually incredibly underrated and most people hate it because they don't know what heavy and light infantry is and how the card system works
>>1870726Isn't AoE3 about early modern colonial empires?
>>1870881it was, but then the chinks and the japs got added.
>>1870881no it's not and don't you dare use the term "colonial" again
>>1870881>c wordCan you not?
>>1870720That was to be expected. The team is obviously stretched thin as it is, since AoM was ported to the same engine as 3.>>1870881The game's outgrown its New World focus. Especially the last expansion took things back to Europe with like 40 new random maps and a whole bunch of unique units, among other things. Might as well add some civs that weren't very involved in colonialism. I wonder what else they're adding, though. If it's just the two civs, they'd probably be done by now. I doubt they can add any more maps, not to Europe, at least.
>>1870871honestly? Yeah. By a pretty huge factor. For one, it actually has the soul of an age of empires game
After Danes and Poles, who else could get added?>ScotlandThey did make an attempt at colonization, the Darien Scheme, but it was foiled by Spain and Britain. Plus, Highlanders are a classic unit, and it would be kinda lame to either replace them with a more generic mercenary rifleman or to give Scotland a weaker version.>CanadaAmerica and Mexico got in. Canada would round out the North American trio. I don't think I need to explain why they would be relevant to a game about the colonial period.>ZimbabweZulus are a little bit outside the scope of AoE3, otherwise I would put the Zulu Kingdom here. >KoreaThe famous Turtle Ships actually fall into an appropriate time period for Korea to make an appearance. The Japanese invasion would make a cool campaign.>Another Native American CivI'm sure one could fit in somewhere. Maybe the Haida? Maybe the Cherokee? I think it would be neat to see, even if I'm not sure who would be the best fit.
>>1870720call me when they include the Persians
>>1871059Plenty of nations they can borrow from Cossacks.
>>1871059it was confirmed as the Danes and PLC earlier this yearhttps://youtu.be/luanHWTBs38?si=njN6IgJZpm1uoTKO&t=74>>1871362I'm not sure about Canada, since they never achieved independence during this time and the British "revolution" already captures themIf they were to keep up with the 2civ expansion scheme, I could see something like>Asia: Korea and a SEA like Thailand (though Korea could be a minor civ, since China pulled all of the weight in the Imjin War)>MENA: Persia and the Barbary States (who already have a number of campaign models)>American Natives: promotion of the Cherokee and Apachee/Mapuche???>Africa: Kongo (for central Africa) and Zimbabwe/some Bantu kingdom (for southeast Africa)>American Powers: Gran Columbia and Brazil??? (limited because of the existing revolutions)>Europe pt3: Scotland and some Balkans civ (limited because of the existing mercs)maybe even something about the Mongols because they were still enemies of the Ming/Qing throughout the 1700s, but this is starting to get into Age2 civspleeter bloat
>>1871588>>1871059oh, i misread your post, i thought you said >I wonder what they're addingi'm a dumb
>>1871588Apache kind of compete with Lakota for a niche, don't they? Then again, I probably would have said the same bout the Incas and the Aztecs.
>>1870978h-he meant commercial empires
>>1871637kinda, yeah, but I felt they did have some notoriety for preventing Spanish expansion north of Mexico, while their wars against the Americans, and the notoriety of Geronimo, deserve some merit. True, they would be harder to differentiate from the Lakota, as another cavalry civ, so maybe have a start as a pure infantry civ until "receiving" horses that allows them to do a full switch into cavalry? It also would kind of fit into a general scheme of: >haudonoshonee (american northeast) >cherokee (american southeast) >lakota (great plains)>apache (american southwest)then the only thing missing would be the northwest, but there weren't many big wars out there. i could vouch for something in the Great Lakes to represent groups in Pontiac's Rebellion/the Northwestern Confederacy/Tecumseh's Confederation, too, but those would be a bit repetitive and hard to differentiate gameplay wise even if they are super cool parts of my local history
>>1870831the best ones in the franchise
>>1871411you can throw your phone in the trash, it will never ring
>>1871592Yeah, I meant other stuff. Obviously they're adding the civs, but Europe is packed with random maps and natives as it is, so I wonder what else they could be cooking. There sure are unexplored areas in other places like Africa, Asia and maybe the Pacific, though.
>>1871588>civspleeterI fucking hope they split Germans into Prussians and Austrians
>>1870720Well played, microsoft you have a fair chance of baiting me into buying your game and dlc for le großpolen.
>>1870871Yes, personally its my favourite of the series too.
>>1871588>>1871362I'd just go ahead and add Austria, ideally Germany should just be broken up into Austria and Prussia and open the door to fill up with some other minors but eh.Other than that... Europe is mostly done, I guess they could put in Persia, maybe two south american civs (Brazil and Argentina probably) and thats kind of it.
>>1871813I don't think they'll split it because it'll upset spergs who play only one civ, but just throwing in Austria would be good enough, let the current Germany just be a stand in for the Germany confederation or something, Austria could have some mechanics around its various thrones, maybe like how USA and Mexico have states, or something centered around the HRE.
>>1871957>ideally Germany should just be broken up into Austria and Prussiaboooooriiiing
>>1871738Guess I will keep never touching the game then.
>>1870720>while it still has a playerbaseAoE3 has a playerbase?
>>1871789I can't believe Peenoise Island isn't in the game yet.Or did they pick another place for an Archipelago setting?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hdHiX2mg6kStill a documentary I still watch time to time.>"We didn't want to go back and do what we did before which was ancient and medieval times..>"Nobody on the team wanted to do a tank game"Oof. Maybe it was for the best Ensemble didn't turn out like CA did.Don't have the slightest idea where that other link came from.
>>1872188>Or did they pick another place for an Archipelago setting?Yeah, the Aegean Sea islands. See >>1871059
>>1870720I only find the original game good, war chiefs and asian dynasties were forced garbage and the saloon mercs broke the already mediocre AI. I pirated the remake to see what's up and it's just meme civs that are almost as autistic as war of liberties (balance WoL is atrocious too).
>>1871362>I'm sure one could fit in somewhere. Maybe the Haida? Maybe the Cherokee? I think it would be neat to see, even if I'm not sure who would be the best fit.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ComancheriaAlso, i'd like to see Hessians as separate faction.
>>1870720not surprised at all desu , was to be expected with AOM release , it was clear all ressources were going on that especially since it use the AOE3 DE Engine
man this is my favorite rtsbut it's a shame microsoft want to disappear it because le problematic time period.
>>1871362They could use Courland as stand in for a Baltic civ, seeing as they had a somewhat successful colonial venture in the 15th and 16th century.
>>1874514>microsoft want to disappear it>releases a DE for it?
>>1874530anon, at best they had a somewhat successful graveyard on the other side of the planet. They never got their population growing past village tierit was a tiny duchy and a polish subject. I could see courland as some sort of weird revolt option but other than that, dang son what an obscure suggestion, bet you played lots of ue4
>>1874634I mean Danes by comparison had only moderately more success in their colonial ventures, establishing only very small colonies in Ghana, the Caribbean and India. They were historically on the downturn losing wars both in the 30 years war as well as repeatedly losing against Sweden, so by what metric are we really saying a nation is Civ worthy?
>>1871362Persia
>>1874532>killed the 2007 version >literally 0 shilling or official tournaments like the others they feel pretty incommode with the game even when slavery was far more popular in all other games periods
>>1874656>I mean Danes by comparison had only moderately more success in their colonial venturesI think with this DLC they're focusing on non-colonials and just filling out the European roster, Denmark was important for the Kalmar Union and I suppose that's what they're going for here
>>1875208>0 shilling or official tournaments like the othersBecause it's one of the least popular AoE games?
>>1870720I tried getting into AoE3 but man multiplayer is brutal.I blame the deck system it's very unintuitive and it makes it so hard to know what your opponent is doing when whole armies are created in like 30 seconds.
>>1871724I hate the expansions. I wish I could play the game how it was at release before they shit it up with indians and other indians.
I like the expansions. I'm glad I can play the game how it is now after they added a variety of Indians.
>>1876019Base AoE3 was great. It had a reason to start over from scratch and had a reason to have Home Cities since everyone was having a little colony.Leveling up was fun even though everyone just edited the files for multiplayer but at least the mercenaries were meaningful rather than stupid fucks every map.
>>1876019>>1877852and that is le bad because....?
>>1879190go back to Mumbai. Ranjesh
>>1875438the game is designed around snowballing XP and tech into victory, these are dynamic factors in MP gameplay. Very different from aoe2 where its a game of pure math
>>1871959What they should do is turn the current Germany into Austria and keep everything the same. Prussia with their strong national army being lumped in with the limp dick HRE is retarded.
What were they thinking?
is farming bad in aoe3? when I played many years ago I would build farms like it was aoe2, but when I watched a recent video to see what the game was like now people were just hunting for the entire game.
>>1879664In AoE2 there weren't as many animals in the map to justify still hunting beyond what's around your base. The same isn't true for plenty of AoE3 maps. Not to mention how much stronger AoE3 villagers are compared to 2.
>>1879664yeah farming is a late game thing unless the enemy have most map control/raiding and your strat is turtling
>>1879664Hunting is more prominent (and easier) than in 2, but it depends on the map. 2 is much more rigid with its resources (more stingy, too), probably because it's much more dependent on build orders, so regardless of the map you absolutely have to have your sheep, deer, 2 boars, berries, 7 gold tiles, etc. to get going.
>>1870881Ukraine is a Polish colony at the time. Also it was colonized after being triple-teamed, so it works.>>1871362Brazil could work like more expansion focused Mexico.
>>1870881'Modern'? Game starts with the discovery of the New World, retard.Only the base game is focused on it. Now it's about anything from 1500-1900.
>>1870726you're fucking boring.
>>1881297>Game starts with the discovery of the New World, retard. And what century does the Early Modern period begin, exactly?
>>1881297You are not mentally equipped to discuss this subject.
>>1881297>'Modern'?Yeah, which started with the Renaissance
>>1879664Farming vs hunting is a trade off in security for most civs. After early game, your villagers have to wander farther to keep hunting, meaning they can be harassed and killed. Focusing on hunting can give you a resource edge through ages 2-3 while farms require a decent investment in upgrades and some card shipments to really get rolling and only come online in late age 3-4. Since most games are decided by age 2-3, it should not be surprising most people invest heavily in ending the game before farms become relevant. That said, ive been in some matches where ive leveraged defensive bonuses to make getting farms in age 2 successful, but its very much a situational strat. Also fuck chinese and their op hammer cav. That said, there are some civs
>>1886502>That said, there are some civstruer words have never been spoken
>>1886502>Also fuck chinese and their op hammer cavJust make dragoons. If you have a whole mass of them, his cavalry banners become useless, and his attepts at counterplay will make him predictable and less mobile.
>>1870871yes, since every game of the franchise is better than IV
>>1870720Sad. The best game in the Age franchise is also the most neglected one.>>1871362Should be Korea imo but devs are probably too lazy to do that. Afaik, Danes and Poles were relatively easier to add because there were some voice lines and unit designs that were done for those civs earlier in the legacy game but it was never released. >>1871588I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last DLC Age III gets. >>1879664You want to stay on hunts as long as possible because your villagers gather food from hunts much faster compared to mills/farms. European mills are also a huge wood investment (400 Wood each). By the time you get a mill going, your opponent will have gathered 10 times more food than you. Even fishing is far better than making mills. I really like this aspect of the game though because it forces you to defend your economy. You have to worry about cavalry raids and herding the hunts. If I wanted to make a pretty looking city inside walls with a safe economy, I would either play treaty (don't play treaty) or some other city builder game. That being said, there are a few civs in this game that break all the rules. If you want to make Age 2 farms, buy the Mexico DLC and make Haciendas.
>>1871588what consulate allies would you want for Korea and Thailand?
>>1889853For Korea, I've three ideasPlan A: International ideas>China>Manchu-Mongolian>European What If (Portuguese, Dutch?)>Isolationist Hermit-KingdomPlan B: Foreign/Domestic Split>China>Manchu-Mongol>Eastern Seoin faction >Western Dongin factionOption C - the Four Colors sasaek>Northern Bukin faction>Southern Namin faction>Old Learning Noron faction>Young Learning Soron factionI only know about the factions in general, so I can't speak of what they'd do/units they'd provide (since we don't want a million unique units), but Korea's stability as its own came from the poltical parties never holding a single overwhelming majority, so there shouldn't be any cost/delay to swapping allies--or even an Export boost for changing parties.Thailand >Portugal>France >Japan or Netherlands>England or some kind of Sufi/Muslim influences, if someone wants to LARP as Malacca I'd like this expansion to add Theravada temples to maps because SEA buddhism =/= Shoalin, with rattan or elephant archers
>>1875431Denmark had Carribian, Indian, and African colonies.
>>1890075I think the Four Colors is the most interesting option out of those.
>>1871694>Kickapoo peopleWe need them more than ever!
as a turtlefag i hate how useless walls and towers are and how bonkers powerful artillery isthank you for reading my blog
Are there any new or custom campaigns for aoe3?T. Single player fag
>>1891728Nope.
>ironclad replaces the monitor and not the frigate, so it can get two-shot by kind of cannonisn't that the opposite of why they were ironclad?
>>1870881AoE III wasn't even meant to be a numbered sequel to begin with. But yes, this game's scope expanded right up to the 19th century.
>>1891237they are far from useless, but not nearly as strong as in aoe2
>>1881297>Retard doesn't have a fucking clue what the modern era isLmao
>>1871362>ScotlandBritain>CanadaBritain>MubotoNah>Ching lee ChongNah>Walks-on-fishNah
do you prefer aoe 2 or 3?
>>1871362>>CanadaWasn't even an independent country until the 20th century. Everything there was fully under the British crown. America and Mexico make sense because they rebelled against their colonial progenitors within the game's timescale. Canada is like Australia in that it was fully controlled by Britain until they decided to grant them independence. And I don't see how a Canadian civ would look different enough from the British to justify it.
>>1897544>I don't see how a Canadian civ would look different enough from the British to justify itbears with capesmoose instead of horseswood based economyunits say "eh" at the end of every spoken lineunits say "sorry" when you repeat command in a few second spanputin special shipment that gives some early food boosttons of chinese, black, arab and tranny-themed shipments
>>1897452I could never get into 2 wholeheartedly, and I prefer 3 which is like AoM but a lot crazier somehow. The things I like about 3 are: less pointless busywork, the combat is not as gamey, the civs and maps are actually varied, and the units stats are much more legible. 2 on the other hand, has better unit handling - the army movement in formation is more responsive and less buggy.
