Is there a modern strategy game that caused more damage to the perception of historically accurate medieval combat?>bows are inferior to crossbows, the latter can easily penetrate steel armor>if you put plate on, you move like a turtle>pikemen don't use pikes

>>1879272I don't think stronghold did much if any damage to modern perceptions of medieval warfare. If anything it improves them since it shows how complex fully built castles could be and the logistics involved in maintaining an army.

Arrows should beat spears. If hoplites were still popular (or Roman legionnaires), then that counter wouldn't exist, but apparently in the dark ages/during most of medieval warfare, they decided big shields are too expensive to hand out to peasants. Just here's a sharp stick and die, maybe scare away some horses.

>>1889375That is because reality sucks and there are no lightweight bulltet proof armour and shields like fantasy.
>>1889386Ok, but why did they not consider using the prone position to avoid getting shot?
>>1889394You can't reload an arquebuse in that position. This position was adopted as soon as it was possible in the 19th century.
Thinkin' 'bout dat arquebussy
>>1879280Cheap archers who use something like hunting bows (think archery club in Japan, those are typically popular with female students, so that must take low skill and 0 STR), low power draw basically, should be faster to train than crossbows, because to operate crossbow you need at least some IQ to reload and aim it properly
I wish there was a spergy game where you could build your own castle form your own dynasty equip your guys with extreme detail and manage your lands.Or at least manor lords with siege battles and dynastic management. Fucking useless nigger flop ass dev.

How was Stronghold Crusader received in the Middle East region? Asking the many Arabic posters on /vst/. It was technically designed in a Middle East coded country.
Is there someplace somewhere where I can find unit stats down to the numbers?
I hate stronghold because when the difficulty starts to increase you start to realise that it's more of a puzzle about how to use space efficiently than a strategy game.
>>1890449Isn't that just Dungeon?
>>1889394They did go prone sometimes. It's not like everyone was fucking retarded for the entire duration of that period of warfare and you're not smarter than someone like Napoleon, and they were actually trying to win. Those tactics were adopted because they btfo out of the opponents who were not using those tactics. They didn't all decide to one day start using them because of brainworms, but because it was proven in the field.
>>1879805best answer
>>1889394In Napoleonic warfare there was a ton of skirmishing, which would have looked a lot closer to what you imagine people should've been doing (firing from cover and concealment, making an effort not to be shot) Most of the fighting was conducted this way to screen for the large formations while they jockey for position, then the "big battle" army smashing would take place. The trouble with skirmishing is that it's not decisive enough, and having men spread out on foot wasn't very compelling firepower wise with the weapons of the time. They were very vulnerable to being run down by cavalry. Imagine trying to defend yourself on foot with a musket against cuirassiers on horseback. Your friends are too separated to form a strong wall of gun and bayonet, and the cavalry steamroll through your position. Not only are the men armored, able to trample you to death and faster than you, but they also have a horse load of pistols and carbines to unload on you before galloping off to safely reload (or slash through your neck and shoulder from above). It would be like a modern drive by shooting with a hundred old civics smashing into your gangbanger buddies. Everyone always rags on musket warfare like it was retarded but it's really based.
>>1898023>it's really based.Based on what?
>>1898043based on politics
