what went wrong?
Lack of competition to keep them sharp. They can basically do whatever they want because nobody else is going to do a better job anyway.
Nothing, their games are fine. You have to buy $100 of DLC first but game prices are ludicrously low anyways, Super Mario 3 retailed for 50 bucks in 1990. Inflation adjusted that's $120 for a fucking pixel platformer, $150 is absolutely a reasonable price for a fully-featured grand strategy game that people get hundreds of hours of playtime out of. You pay 5 bucks to rent a movie and that lasts you an hour and a half, once.
>>1882142they actively courted a primary demographic who don't actually like playing GSGs. They saw that alt history AARs for Vic2, HOI and CK2 were massively popular with edgy teenagers from both extremes of the political spectrum. They focused instead on making map-themed choose your own adventure stories from EU4 and CK2 onwards
>>1882148You want competition for Paradox, because you're a shitlib who thinks the magic of the free market is the solution to all life's problems.I want competition for Paradox, because it's more piles of booger sugar for me slam my head into.We are not the same.
They realized that the autists who like their games are retarded addicts that will buy their slop no matter what.
>>1882162No, I pirate movies too.
>>1882184I'm talking about the average game customer, not poorfags
>>1882185>dev listens to their paying customers>poorfags seethe about how the dev is bad now, something went wrong
>>1882142went publicly traded.
>>1882142Have up improving Ai and relied on youtubers making meme playthroughs or sweaty multiplayer.
They were never good, especially if you were playing their stuff back before CK2 came out. CK2 was their first launch where the game was actually playable on day one, at that point there was some hope that they were starting to become good, but then they ruined all that good will with their predatory DLC policy.
>>1882142eu5 will save paradox
millenials without kids decided to give this particular studio all of their disposable income
>>1882142mentally ill playerbase
>>1882194People keep saying this but Paradox were still shit when they were private. For fucks sake you literally needed DLC just to view the OOB lines in HoI3, which is pretty much essential.
Paradox went under when they started selling games with dlc. Before that, their "sell dlc with a game" model was perfect.
>>1882142""""People""" on /vst/ refusing accept their superiority over all other so-called "strategy games"

When did the tables turn, and it's the pirate's turn to be shrill, whiny and insecure? Yes, you're poor; no, the devs aren't going to listen to you, what's the issue?
>>1882142what went wrong?>Greed>Hubris>Complacency>DEI
Paradox games aren't "bad" because the devs are actually "listening" to this mystical fanbase of "paying customers", they're bad because they're poorly made, objectively.>but if they're not the best games ever how come I faithfully buy every single low effort DLC they shit out?Because you're a retarded NPC.
