Could BAR be the game that make RTS cool again? I think this is the right path. >focused on macro but only two resources>diverse factions>can be enjoyed both as a sweaty competitive 1v1 mode or more casual 8v8 chaotic artillery porn>even fun to watch>probably the RTS with more qualities of life >a lot of units and different strategies>terrain matters a lot>good optimized engine that can run on a potatoProbably the only "flaw" is the unities designs and their plastic toy look, but who cares if the games is good to play? The game has also enough content as a single player only game with a bunch of scenarios, they should just slap a basic bitch campaign with a loose plot that stitch them together to appease the whiny "no story mode no buy" SPcels (that want muh epic campaign/lore so bad) and put it on Steam and it could be a success
>>1887144Its cool but no, there isnt any community, i had to save replays of good players to get a decent build order like its 2001. no online resources. once i lost the build order i copied (had written on a piece of paper ) stopped playing. anyone has a link to the last BAR thread? the one that said "hold my beer"? its a cool game though
>>1887167FOUND IT!!! maybe ill play a glitter noob game, its fun casually
>>1887167>no online resources.where the fuck do you retard niggers keep coming from? this is not the first time someone says this shit, while the main website has a huge GUIDE section with videos too
>>1887260i want to play the game not watch 3 hours of a faggot talking on jewtube thanks for giving trash advice retard, where are the build orders?
>>1887167>>1887265>I can't play a game unless someone tells me exactly what to doZoomers are such an embarrassment, this is why this genre is dead.
>>1887144doesnt have human infantry is my main complaint
>fans constantly circlejerk about how good the community is>download the game and spectate some matches>literally every game, even lobbies explicitly advertised as "chill game for noobs" instantly breaks down into thirdies screaming at each other in broken English the second someone makes a mistake or deviates from The Meta™ by a single move
>>1887291>fans constantly circlejerk about how good the community iswhere? community is by far the worst thing about bar
I hate how these games are about making a billion engineers to speed up production.
>>1887144the only downside is due to its exponential eco set up and prohibitive cost of tech switching team games favor lane/role based faggotry like its LoL or Dota so you get same kind of "teamwork" where everyone blames air and calls an obviously clueless newbie a troll for not knowing how to play. While 1v1s end too quickly for the players to enjoy the t2 stage let alone get to t3. Its a shame coz the game itself is gold and decades ahead of everything else in terms of gameplay.>>1887167online resources are readily available if a bit obscured. usually 2m>1e>1m>2e>lab always works.>>1887291community consists mostly of weirdos youd fit in perfectly 40+ year old TA style rts fans GNUtards, thirdies. I remember one game where some schizo constantly kept just talking about something to somebody in all chat while doing fuck all before leaving mid game i wonder where he is now. The only real downside with the community is that its entirely based on discord. so no real knowledge accumulation or community formation happens.
>>1887167The Discord is fucking great, questions get answered within minutes and the issues resolved within 5-10 minutes of bringing them up. There are tons of Youtube -videos, including guides, from which you can ape early, mid and late game macro without much of an effort. This one's on you, stop being a complete retard and you'll see. The community is funny, helpful and sociable. Game's hard though. My first competitive RTS ever, and while I've played single player campaigns it doesn't prepare a person for this at all. The AI is a great tool to practise, it doesn't cheat and it provides a challenge to people starting out their competitive RTS journey here. 30 hours in the Hard BARbarian AI beats me and my friend in 2v2 in a large maps - granted, on anything 10x10 or smaller we stomp them to the ground within 15 minutes, but due to the increased demand in both micro and macro the bigger ones are still a challenge.
>>1887144>Could BAR be the game that make RTS cool again?Impossible. Gamers aren't mostly socially reclusive autists and nerds anymore, a genre like RTS could never catch on today.
If some Turk in the game lobby isn't telling someone else to eat shit and/or kill themselves, you aren't really playing Beyond All Reason
They fucking nailed Legion models, though I still hate that they are getting all the unconventional cool stuff, while cortex and armada both have mostly boring counterparts.
>>1887144Maybe if they get rid of the toy artstyle.
>>1887291lmao im not sorry to offend some of you here but if this game's community collectively drowned themselves there would be a net positive change in IQ in the world
>>1887144>againRTS have always been cool, they just haven't been mainstream because first person bullshit and the like are easier for the average games consumer to consume en-masse.
>>1887276A build order is just an opening so you know what you're doing, no different from chess openings. The strategy starts both with choice of build order, and when the build order ends and you start improvising. You'd know if you played any RTS game yourself.
>>1887144>good optimized engine that can run on a potatoWhy are you lying?
>>1889479Its working on my potato
Total garbage game. When I tried multiplayer I got bullied for my flag. There's no way to hide your flag.
I love the artillery porn that this game isI love big cannons and big explosions
>>1892038Go be a flag somewhere else lmao rekt
>>1887276do you want the game alive, or dead and forgotten you spastic retard? make up your fucking mind>abloo bloo zoomers dead genreguess what you utter fucking imbecile, if you can't put your build orders online as simple text, then your game is shit and people won't fucking bother decrypting it. There are 90000000000000000000000000000000 games coming out every nanosecond and nobody will waste their time on le ebin game 5 people play worldwide and even they don't give a shit enough to post a coherent strat online. There's a reason starcraft stayed around for over 20 years (even your LE RETARDED ZOOMIES RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING play it) and you still haven't figured it out you fucking moron, fucking cretin
I think there's 3 actual build orders in this game and all for fast eco and only work depending on the mapBasically you cap 3 extractors and get enough power, and then you Ctrl+D your commander (away from base ya dumdumb) and reclaim its body. That gives a good boost to get to a T2 factory. From there on you can help teammates by selling them the early T2 builders so you can recoup the cost or go full eco greed and build an Advanced Fusion Reactor at like 10-12mins in.
is bar good enough for skirmish mode?
>>1893835Ye the BARbarian AI is challenging enoughThere's the Raptors and Scavengers coop mode
>>1893838thanks
>>1887144>can run on a potatoNeed winslop 10 though.
>>1896146works on linux no issue
Is recoil engine good for modding?
>>1896674It's Spring Engine, now rebranded Recoil Engine for BARYeah, I mean that was the whole point of Spring Engine, it was an engine for RTS and had several projects but none as polished as BAR and Zero K.
>>1892038>I got bullied for my flagwhat fucking flag do you have that gets you bullied? I'm a third worlder myself and have played with and seen other flags like indians and shit and never seen anyone get harassed for their flags.
>>1897008Has to be one of dem (((whiny))) ones
>>1897016KEK actually yeah I can totally see that happening.
>>1893805nta, but I agree that zoomer cretinism that you display here has killed rts.As per the build order, you can figure it out in minutes, then refine in accordance to the situation and your position on the map. I've never thought that someone may request an instruction of "build 1 mex, then solar, then 2 more mexes, then factory, then solar, then use commander to build constructor...".It's boring and binds your mind to rote execution instead of thinking of everything in dynamic flows.
>>1897123Secondaries are fixed on build ordersI think it's because of SC2. It's always kinda funny to see these complaints because, not gonna lie, build orders are good, but they're not the end of it all guides to win. Most guide users seem to not understand what they do and why are they folowing them. RTS are sandbox games and understanding the game and timings are what define the playstyle and plays against a human.SC2 is a bad RTS IMO. It's restrictive and it all boils down to just build orders: If X then do Y or else you DIE and that's pretty much it since the micro is just to get the first jump on the enemy blob.
>>1887276>implying having to watch hours of videos instead of having some concisely written resource is not peak zoomer shit
>>1887144>>good optimized engine that can run on a potatoThis is half true, 8v8 matches can go above 5k units on the field and it gets laggy as fuck.>>1898245>make extractor>make 3 or 4 windmills>make factory/lab/plant>get rest of extractors (mexes) in the immediate vicinity>windmills until 450 e>make converters at any point if you're overflowing e>if backline go t2 or if you're slow to build buy a t2 constructor (skips building and eating your factory later)>if front make more e to support constant fighting unit production and pay or wait for someone to give you a t2 constructor>if front upgrade the safer mexes and keep making units >if back build t2 units if your front guy is falling back otherwise make a fusion reactor then build some t2 units then go advanced fusion then make units or go for 4 adv fusion asap and go t3This is generally how it's done, you can do other stuff like stockpile e to go from windmills straight to afus etc but it's ballsy and might make your teammates butthurt detracting from this strategy.https://www.youtube.com/@MoreDrongo This guy has video guides, he hasn't uploaded in a while but the info should be correct.Fast eco guide from Drongo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=512kFBRYC5kMore beginner friendly tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tPRdSmkuWw>>1896674Yes and it's piss easy lua tables if you want to change unit properties, see the first subheading in this link: https://gist.github.com/badosu/f2617db52e7486a7769366642d354a01
>>1898300Drongo is the absolute worst person you can link. That guy sucks ass and is notorious for glazing whatever the top players do even if they grief.not to mention his beginner guide showcases are often him just going against 1 chevron complete newbies that are often in the middle of their first ever match.
I'll only start playing it when it gets destructible environment
>>1898387How much more destructible do you want the environment to be, anon? It's not like there are cities or garrisonable buildings. It's all just trees and rocks.
>>1898387Zero-K has what you need. Builders can terraform, freely making ramps for units to get to high ground, walls and pits to defend infrastructure or put the big gun on top of, and so on.
>>1898467>>1898387Oh and unit attacks in ZK terraform a bit too. Levelers are an arty piece that shoot fast, and are specifically designed to flatten a battlefield before your other troops walk in.
>>1898387It already has terrain deformation
>>1893823actually made me thinki dont remember anymore but what if you could "eat" your commander but not fully, and then revive it later when you have more money
>>1898550you can, most people just dont bother.
>>1898352I don't see the problem with any of those if you want to know what to build.
>>1898477i like whenever the land bridge at not-Setton's Clutch gets nuked so hard the bridge is just completely gone so only the taller units can cross the front line and naval vessels suddenly have access
>>1898550The big bonus from eating the Commander is at the end of the salvaging
>>1898894It's just not very good showcases nor does it represent what actually happens in a normal match, I remember watching his video when I first started and he just rolled over a 1 chev guy with rocketeers and game ended pretty quickly.his guides are very lack luster and lack any sort of actual match progression, some of his game reviews are alright but as I said a lot of his content is just really flawed for a lot of reasons.>>1893823build orders are so simple it's hard to even call them build orders, they are all mostly very very simple. The only real exception is navy because navy is extremely snowbally and has gimmicky cheese strats and a lot of wacky shit like islands on certain maps. and ofcourse eco builds that incorporate eating their comm.
>>1898926i think Drongo is okay, but you are right about not relying on his videos as the benchmark of what you gotta do. i remember when i played i built four of those fast tanks out of my vehicle factory at the start and beelined them along a stretch of the enemy where i could do a beeline runby and push into the backlines. it was quite fun to see them do a lot of damage early especially with people not anticipating that someone would do that, and backline players never make any defenses because why would they
Brightworks is decent, I like him
