Any thoughts? Also medieval 2 modding thread
Not looking it up. What's the QRD on the changes
>>1887216Nerfed having fun buffed tedious busywork.
>>1887199Players said it is still very unstable and prone to crashes. Speaking of, SSHIP also crashes with some frequency and the turn times are long. The engine is just too old now.
>>1887199I'd rather play SSHIP, despite it being even more broken
>>1887261god damn, I would have figured 7.0 fixed some of the assload of crashthat said im still testing it because 6.4 was the pinnacle of TW at one point
>>1887332>6.4 was the pinnacle of TW at one pointIt is pretty impressive work ngl.I want to play some Medieval TW but I'm torn on which mod to use (or even the MK1212 for Attila).
>>1887199No it didn't. It's still the beta from 2020.
>>1887199I heard TATW Reforged is coming back with new updates, how are things going with that? I stopped playing a long time ago bc Reforged was dead and DaC blew dogshit
>play medieval 2 total war historical mods>15 turns to build a recruitment building>have to wait 10 turns to actually be able to recruit an mid tier or elite unit>can only recruit one before I have to wait for 15 more turns to it to replenish. >also the devs spent time introducing a bunch of unfun systems, but never bothered to fix certain vanilla bugs like bugged gunpowder units or pikesEvery fucking time. This is why vanilla+ mods are always better. Fuck TWCenter autism
>>1890972Stainless Steel is not so bad for that.SSHIP however...
>>1890972Absolutely this. All that work, countless scripts, just to make the game slow and boring as fuck. But as >>1890974 said, at least the base SS is pretty straightforward and fun. I just wish they used the map from SSHIP for SS, the borders in it are much better.
>>1887216>increased upkeep of some units by 1 gold>reduced speed of some units by 2%>updated water shaders>added one quadrillion bugs
>>1890937>DaC blew dogshitThe fuck you talking about?I don't know about 5.0 but I played a ton of 4.7 and it was great.
>>1890987>>1890974TWCenter modders spend more time circlejerking about modding and scripting medieval 2 than actually playing their own mods.
>>1891271Absolutely. Their mods are so slow that I think most people just play one campaign (if it doesn't crashes first) and get tired of it.
>>1890972There are lots of mods that use the native build/recruitment times. I like the slow mods myself as I don't have fun from rushing and stomping the dumb AI like legend of total war. I like the grind and slog after they build up. > think most people just play one campaign (if it doesn't crashes first) and get tired of it.Probably true. I'll play one campaign for a few weeks and drop the game for a year or so.
>>1889437The roar of conquest is pretty good although it doesn't have an early start date,it's based on stainless steel. One thing i really like about it is the much faster end turn times. Also the buildings don't take 80 turns to build. The latest version is supposed to come out today.https://www.moddb.com/mods/roar-of-conquest-submod-standalone
>>1891284>I like the slow mods myself as I don't have fun from rushing and stomping the dumb AI like legend of total war.from my experience the slow recruitment of a lot of units makes it so the AI is fielding dogshit for the whole game. Vanilla had a similar issue, but that was due to AI logic(like scripted to recruit way too many artillery units like balistas) and not due to lack of units.
What mod should I use if I just want the following >Bug fixes >Path finding fixes >Diplomacy AI fixes so my ally for 100 turns doesn't randomly siege one of my cities, cancels the siege in the same turn and go back home >Making diplomacy actually meaningful >Fixing the reputation system Preferably with no new unit gay shit and no "balance" changes.
>>1891284Understandable, each to their own. I like relatively faster games not to curbstomp the AI but to see my empire grow and progress into the Renaissance, to see the passing of time and all that. >>1891315Awesome, gonna check it out, thanks
>>1891325You wait for the totally happening soon I swear remaster
>>1891763>>1891325not happening. RR released to middling reviews and CA knows Feral would learn from their mistakes and improve Med 2 which directly hurts the sales of whatever new historical slop they have coming out.
>>1891315It's out>Another part of this update is the renaming of all units in the native language of their origin. This means Aragon unit names will be in Spanish, Novgorod unit names will be in Russian, and so on. Some units that are shared between multiple factions do not fit the format perfectly, but in those cases the language used was based on what the most common shared language between these factions would have been historically. Some people have expressed distaste for this change; however, more people were in support of this change, so it was implemented. The new unit names will be updated in the faction roster articles. If you are confused by the new names and how these units are supposed to function, these articles should help you out with that, so keep your eyes open for when they're updated!THIS SUCKS
>>1892224Ooof, that's always annoying for me, even more so when the unit cards aren't well done. Also, I tried this new version, and there's no new map. I thought they were going to update itDropped
>>1891236OP donut steel factions, ai that cheats out 3 stacks a turn and barracks event just to name a few problems. DaC fucking sucks
>>1892224Redditors when they read an ancient chronicle and the writer says "axemen" and "spearmen" instead of "bardgriinshchiki" and "spehermannagaz".
>>1892720its even dumber when they do shit like "kontaratoi spearmen" which literary means spearmen spearmen, just a generic descriptor. Native language names should be mostly kept to unit descriptions along with the rest of the flavour text of the unit.Only cases where its acceptable are for elite units when the generic identifier is already used for that country and the name isnt retarded, eg skoutatoi spearmen, differentiates them from the foder spearmen while the name skoutatoi refers to a specific way some infantry were equiped in the byzantine army (essentially all troops that were still equipped under the legionary infantry model, hence why skoutatoi aka scutum carriers)
>>1892224>Some people have expressed distaste for this change; however, more people were in support of this changeMost players do not hang out in the mod's forum/discord/whatever so their poll of autistic followers led them astray. I feel like this is a huge reason mods and indie games go to shit. They let "the community" (no life autists) decide things for them, failing to realize that "the community" does not represent most people who actually play.
>>1893166But on the other hand most players are braindead normoids devoid of souls or internal thoughts
>>1891236>>1892705The mod author's autism got wrangled for 5.0. All those things are fixed now>no more barracks event, now barracks are tied to different levels of townhall/blacksmithyou can now get access to elite unites earlier if you rush it, although thats probably not a good idea since early game units are usable for the whole game once they get armor and attack upgrades.>OP factionsDol Amroth got hit with the nerf stick, repeatedly. The stats are mostly the same, but the unit size are scaled way down so they feel way more fragile. If anything, the evil factions feel quite oppressive this patch since their giant units like trolls and oliphaunts are so hard to deal with.>AI shit out three stacks a turnSurprisingly enough, very hard campaign difficulty feels much better than medium in this regard. The AI is generally more competent at holding their ground without resorting to meatspam, so you dont see them shitting 3 stacks a turn until you have pushed very far into their territory and thrown the AI into panic mode.I would say this update is the best in a very long time. Some faction reworks are great, I would recommend an Enedwaith run if you are looking for a challenge.
>>1893241I dunno, TW players are innately autistic, modded TW players like myself even more so, and even I don't like those native language named units.
>>1892224I hate this trend in totalwar mods so much. I'm guessing the only reason these autists are not using the native scripts as well is because of engine limitations.
>>1893241The low IQs are all playing nuTW. M2TW players are autistic, but the people who dickride modders in their discord servers are dysfunctionally so.
>>1892224I love native unit names, it adds a lot to the immersion especially for autistic mods like EB.PHALANGITAI
>>1895207Don't mind me, just recruiting some Fatscute phalangite
>>1895207Europa barbaroum is different from this mod,the unit names are native but in the parantheses there are english names as well, which is awesome. The native unit names and languages in EB really add to it's charm (EQVITES CONSVLARES!),but having english names as well helps a lot,it would be very confusing otherwise.>Misteret Ezra'him (Poeni Citizen Militia)>Komatai Thorakitai Stratiotai (Dacian Heavy Phalanx)>Clona Tekonac (Northern Axemen)Now,roar of conquest:>Luchd-Bogha Fada Albannach>Deti Boyarskiye Luchniki>Melichia Gos Wallenshap>Kavat Mekatataat>Al-Ramaa Al-FlahinWhat the fuck am i supposed to understand from these? I hate this 4mb image size limit
>>1887199I never liked ss, im trying tsardoms fall of Constantinople now
>>1895432I wish i found this artist earlier
>>1892705>>1893252I really lke the donut steel factions, specially the Ar-Adûnaim.I do disloke the "last stand" mechabic or whatever the fuck it is called. If I have beaten a faction into submission the game should not suddenly shit out a massive armie of elite units when they have one province left. That's just retarded.
>>1892224You are all amerifats. They teach ancient greek and Latin in Evropa, every kid in knows them.
>>1895438The former lead guy, Galu, had suspiciously wide nostrils, I think he has orcish blood in him.
>>1893252The barracks event was terrible
>>1895447Yeah but that was an engine problem. Wasn't it?
>>1895438I don't really mind the last stand mechanic that much, the early game would be a total cakewalk without it even if it is arcady as hell.>>1895447Yeah that sucked. I'm glad they replaced it with the new system—it makes more sense too in-universe.
>>1895432This man is about to have some fun.
>>1895437>>1895432>first row has pikes out toward enemy>second row has pikes pointed at the sky (to stab birds?) instead of over the shoulder of the front row>pikes in second row don't seem to go into the hands of the men in the second row and disappear behind them I think he probably does a lot of copy+pasting to make the pikes and doesn't want to do the work of putting them in the hands of the men in the second row or make them go over the shoulder of the first row.
>>1892224>he hasn't memorized every single unit in every autism mod he playsmy hordes of Vratyakshatriya Tomarabharas and Kshatriya Khadgacarmadharas will annihilate your army and sack your city
>>1896792Gesundheit
How do you run this on a pirated version? Just keeps trying to launch steam
