Watched the interview of the creator
He said he would love one day to do a 40k game but as of 3 years ago, the "rights to create RTS on 40k" was exclusive to Relic according to his talks with GW.

Where did you find it?
As for a 40k game I think it would be difficult to balance. If I'm remember correctly Space Marines carry around the equivalent of a BMP cannon as a regular weapon. I would make it about the Guardsmen fighting cultists but I don't know how stuff like demons and melee units would be integrated into the mechanics.

This one here, guess it ain't interview but he does answer questions. He also talks about how:
>they expected only 100 or so people on release, servers weren't ready for thousands
>China will be added as they are a huge playerbase apparently
>They are working on a singleplayer game
>They have to check if morale/suppression mechanic isn't discredeting Russian forces with lawyers, otherwise they will be facing fines

>UHM ACKUSLLY IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO SUPPRESS GLORIOUS RUZZIAN FORCES
Watching a once semi-reasonable country descend into North Korean tier thought policing because they can't win a war they started is such a surreal experience.
I'd feel bad for Russians but they love this shit.
>>
>>1888806
There is some neat stuff here. Didn't expect that the Chinese would account for 40% of SW's sales. He also talked about how sound design is more important than fancy graphics, so I guess that's why Terminator has so many voice lines and such crisp explosion sounds.
>>
>>1888971
> Sound design is more important
I agree with this. Look how sound design helps games like World in Conflict and Homeworld stick out.

Also, the original resident evils were pretty much carried by excellent sound design.

I will always remember Homeworld for it's beautiful skyboxes and general detail. They still look fantastic to this day. Also Kharak is burning. The music, visuals and voice acting really came together in that one.
As for WoC it sticks oit in many ways. Detailed cutscenes, interesting setting and missions, high stakes and kino story, it has it all. Shame the sequel got shitcanned

I'm replaying WOC right now, and everything about that game is top notch.. I love the top gun reference when you calling airstrike and the pilot saying Iceman out.

I love that they went full autist with it - when tank crew is in opposing force tank they comment on how it looks all different and they have no idea what the blinking light in it means.
>>
>>1889251
That happens when your guys enter Integrator vehicles. I think there are different versions for both tanks and technicals. I know there are also different background sounds on the radio when a vehicle is still, moving and fighting.
But units screaming and crying that they lost a man or are the last one left is a great gameplay addition. It helps you a lot when on a large map.

le realistic battle commander with no base building or macro whatsoever
there are fucking default unity plugins for this shit

obviously make it so the units speak in russian when they're doing well and if they're being suppressed or have their morale broken, have their panicked cries be in chechen or korean

It sort of gets balanced because Marines are effectively BMP-2s in humanoid form when it comes to relative cost and "rarity".
Consider that a single Space Marine Company is only a 100 dudes + maybe 50 support staff that drive vehicles and so on, and a Space Marine Company is pretty much considered a self-sufficient Space Marine force, only rarely coming together for bigger operations. Whole Chapter, if obeying by the book rules is 1000 guys tops.
Imperial Guard Regiment also starts at a 1000 guys but effectively has no upper limit, so you can easily have tens of thousands of guys, and they also cooperate much more often than Marines, with multiple Regiments often working together.
So effectively your Marine army might have only a squad of 10 dudes while your Imperial Guard enemy has 100+ and also gets competent anti-tank weaponry. It's weird but wouldn't be impossible and a more "realistic" take on Warhammer might actually help with that.
As a whole the system is pretty stupid but it is explained away as Imperium being extremely paranoid after their Civil War to not give one chain of command all the tools because even if your Guard rebels, they have no ships to get around, even if your Navy rebels they have no real ground forces and if Marines rebel they don't have remotely enough bodies to cover a lot of worlds.
It's when you get to various aliens and stuff that the power levels start to be very inconsistent, not least because you'd need to establish which lore (or rules) to follow on how powerful they are, as in theory stuff like Eldar Aspect Warriors are supposed to be absurdally more powerful than humans yet rules-wise and in a lot of portrayals they're basically equivalent to a carapace-armoured dude, just with an invulnerable save and an inch more movement.

>have their panicked cries be in chechen or korean
doubtful that would be a fix since they're above the russians in the pecking order

Tried out the alpha of their new government sponsored f2p game, Front Edge, it's alright but sorely lacking some features. You can't dig trenches or build fortifications, and there's no damage models for the tanks yet. But it's still early in development so hopefully that will be changed later on. I'm not one of those sickos who religiously watch drone videos but I've seen a few and it's strange to see all those IRL landscapes in a video game. Honestly feels a bit surreal, if not wrong, there's people younger than me dying in Ukraine, and here am I, playing pretend. But I guess COD wasn't any different back in the day.

Is it really sponsored by the Government?
Nice, finally they sponsor something that isn't complete dogshit judging from their previous hit games, such as Cat Porfirio/Warfare/Syrian Warfare
>>
>>1895628
If it's F2P then there's 99% change of it being a dogshit for mouth breathing retard, just look at War Thunder

It's going to be F2P yeah. Basically think of it like America's Army but it's an RTS and glorifies Russia's military instead of the US'.

I looked at some of the devs. Their portfolios go as far back as early 2000s with games like Jagged Alliance and Alfa Antiterror. I heard an anecdote that they got an FSB visit for that last one and had to cut a level

Well, look at it this way. They use government money to upgrade engine build some assets and then make a commercial game with that engine and assets from which we will profit too.
It will be another cat game though 100%

This isn't unusual for 'mil-sims', the US military has intervened in several games, notably CoD and Full Spectrum Warrior, because their battlefield equipment was "underperforming".

he made it up of course, it's unthinkable for a government that's part of the FREE WORLD to influence opinion of general population.
that would be very unethical and a crime against individualism!
