Recently started playing through this, having a fun time.Currently working through the Expert missions.Wanted to stoke some discussion on it.> What are your favorite base units?Warriors?Rangers?Rogues?Wizards?<Rangers, definitely. They're fast, exploration-prone, ranged, brave but not suicidal. Perfect early game units.><Wizards can become demigods, but 95% of them die before that point. Also you need a keep upgrade to get them.><Warriors are shit. They're slow, dumb, and surprisingly cowardly. Even as meatshields, Veteran guards outclass them.><Rogues are also undesirable. Sure, they have poison and can serve as pseudo-tax-collectors, but they are so cowardly.>> What are your favorite temple unitsAdepts?Barbarians?Cultists?Healers?Monks?Paladins?Priestesses?Solaruses?Warriors of Discord?<I've found that Krypta Priestesses are OP - like to a frankly hilarious extent.> <The Big tiddy goth hero wants to start a zombie apocalypse and I'm going to help her.>> What's your favorite non-human race?Elves?Dwarves?G*omes?<Elves mess up my intended tax collection routes and distract heroes.><The less said about g*omes the better.><The dwarves let me change the game genre to tower defense, but nothing else about them really interests me.><Dwarves I guess, by virtue of being the least offensive option.>> What's your favorite God?Agrela?Dauros?Fervus?Helina?Krolm?Krypta?Lunord?<I think I like Krypta the most just by her association with the Priestess hero class.><Although, from what I know about Krolm he seems like a gigachad.>> What's your favored enemy?Ratfolk?Goblins?Undead?Beasts?Forestfolk?Scrylia's spawn?Beastmen?Enemy kingdoms?Giant monsters?<Goblins. Its supremely satisfying to watch an entire warband get ripped apart by a powerful hero (or a wall of skeletons).>
>>1898531>rangers>krypta 4 lyfe>elves are gay af>KROLM! KROLM! KROLM! KROLM! KROLM!>rats cuz funnyMonster kingdom is way better than vanilla for sure.
>>1898786Huh, seems pretty interesting.I'll definitely look into it after polishing off Majesty and its sequel - since I already have them installed on my PC.Full disclosure: reading the steam synopsis for Monster Kingdom just gave me a memory flash of failing to beat Dungeon Keeper as a kid.So I think I might tackle that franchise next.
>>1898531> What are your favorite base units?Rangers are the best bite for your money you can get, period>TempleSolarus, as long as you have the +1 Int Library upgradeIf not, HealersPaladins are overrated as fuck and lock you away from bunch of useful shit.>Non-humanGnomes, how is it even a question?>GodFervus>Actual usefulness of godAgrela>Best enemyUndead
>>1898531honestly, I've never played this game. I'm not a kid. It just happened that way. Is it worth playing, because I recently tried Majesty 2 and it was bad
>>1898531IM MEEEEELLLLTTTINNNG
>>1898856Paladins were really useful on the witchqueen mission, but yeah, beyond that I haven't really used them.Mainly because I always KryptaMaxx as much as possible, but also because Monks seem pretty underwhelming relative to their cost.Never tried the healers.I've never felt that the game put me in a situation where healing potions were insufficient, and to be frank I do not trust the AI to serve a support role competently. As for the Solarus, they seem quite strong, but you get them so late into the game.By that point I've already settled into a particular strategy and am busy clearing the map. Also, their flare spells packed less of a punch than I expected when I tested them.I assume they're only effective against undead or something.>>1899192Haven't gotten to Majesty 2 yet as I want to finish the original first, so I can't comment on its quality.Personally, I'm quite enjoying my time with Majesty.I don't think its a masterpiece exactly but it has an earnest charm to it - from the visuals, to the voice lines, to the AI, to the oddly anti-micro gameplay, to the theme living rentfree in my brain. Although it can be extremely frustrating when one of your heroes or peons do something utterly retarded. It often plays out like a slow motion trainwreck because you're powerless to save them unless you have useful spells unlocked.>>1899207> MoRe GoLd yOuR mAjEsTy!
I like Maj2 over 1.
It needs a remake cuz it aged like milk and 2 sucks ass
>>1899298> It aged like milkHuh? I cannot disagree more strongly. The game seems timeless. The art holds up wonderfully for something released in 2000.The mechanics are executed well. There's plenty of content to chew on.The game performs without incident.I cannot think of a single facet of the game bad enough to warrant a remake. The few problems I've encountered are technical in nature, specifically UI scaling. For example, every resolution option is pure jank that cuts off the top and bottom of the screen. This renders the console at the bottom of the screen, and the date and gold indicators at the top unreadable.Going into windowed mode fixes this, but the way screenscrolling works introduces a new problem.See, the screen smoothly scrolls when you bring your cursor up to the edge of the screen.Doing this without fullscreen on is maddeningly finnicky.Technically you can also use the arrow keys to scroll, but the screen scroll is much less smooth is you use them. However, from what I understand most of these issues are specific to the steam version of the game.
>>1898531> What are your favorite base units?I agree that rangers are pretty much the best early game unit, though warriors call to arms can be valuable on some maps where you get rushed right away, and playing large maps without rogue guild's extorion is a pain in the ass. I think rogues have a place in t1 - recruit them to get enough to level up the castle, then don't get anymore. They will follow even small gold rewards, dutifully collect every chest, and do a decent job not killing themselves, so if you got the buildings to sell them gear they'll arm up quicker than any other class and put all that gold back into your economy fast.>GodI like Lunord, mostly for winged feet. If I got a power unit, just watching her and spamming winged feet makes the objectives go by so much quicker. It's powerleveling. Same for bailing out the wounded.>Non-humansElves. Elves make money. Elves return heroes money back where it belongs - in the spellcasting pile.>Temple unitCultists, I like converting the entire map to my side. Also warriors of discord are a great of turning money into wrecking shit.>Favored enemyI don't know actually. Can't say I pay much attention. Death to all enemies. I guess it's nice how slow the undead are, and how easy to convert.
>>1899259>Never tried the healers.OP as all fuck>SolarusOther than high-level Paladins (problems of which you've already pointed out), Solarii are the best fighters in the game. It's crucial to get them with the library upgrade for +1 Int, because that's the value they need to know when to retreat.
>>1899259>>1899484And to make myself clear: the point of Solarii is not to have a mainstay fighting force, but being the "late game comeback in case of things going to shit". They are strong and competent enough to crank up first two levels even in like day 30, while picking them is purely situational and you can ignore them. Whereas when going after Paladins, you have to dedicate your game to that goal.
Majesty is fun but a lot of the difficulty on harder maps is literal RNG. The expansion helps a bit with this with some of the new spells it specifically introduces, but never really fixed some things, like the tier 3 guilds kind of being a fucking joke
>>1898531I love the game.used to play the browser game a lot, lol.Best is babysitting a mage to when he gets teleport, like lvl 5 or something.Or something like Solarus, I forgot which one of those advanced temples is OP.Ranges lvl up and play super safe, but are useless beyond scouting.Rogues are just the worst and will always die needlessly.
Which maps did you guys enjoyed the most and which one was the most frustration?
>>1899592The one that forced me to be the most creative was the Serpent valley one, and its stuck fondly in my memory.I basically needed to abandon my keep entirely in favor of a remote outpost near a elven lodge, then its just a mad rush of setting up an economic base and fortifying the area with guardtowers, warrior guilds, and temples to krypta before a hoard of medusa and frost dragons assassinate the Elven holdouts.I also generally like any mission where I need to turtle-up against incoming hoards of enemies.Regarding missions I dislike, Legendary heroes, 100%.Limiting all guilds to 1 hero is obscene, I've spent hours on it across multiple attempts and I've barely made any progress. The Day of Reckoning mission was also pretty challenging, but nowhere near on the level of Legendary Heroes.Broadly speaking I do not like missions that put me on a timer.I don't want to say 'Legenary heroes' is the worst mission in the entire game - because I've yet to start 'Balance of Twilight', 'The Siege', or the two hidden Master-rank missions - but holy shit it hurts my soul.>>1899538Something that mildly aggravates me - to perhaps an unreasonable degree - are maps where buildings are already in place around the keep.Especially if I am not allowed to destroy them. The inefficiency and asymmetry it introduces triggers my autism something fierce.
>>1899207LEAVE MY GOLD ALONE!
>>1898531Elves + Krolm spam clears pretty much every map. Spamming rage is also the only way to make Wizards even remotely useful.
