I don't get this shitty game. The only strategy is to buff a duelist and kill ememy generals.
Archers do too little damage. Money is too sparse to raise enough troops early on so you can't leave troops to defend your regions you just have your own army defeat every defendant easily while on the other side of your regions the enemy has three full armies for every shitty settlement he attacks.
Also why are most diplomatic options unavailable such as vassalage until you're a duke or whatever?

Turn off the faggot chink dynasty heroes mode

Hero units are the best thing to ever happen to Total War. I don't want to watch 500 spearmanii fight with no energy or excitement I want to see an awesome hero cleave through them before meeting the enemy hero and having an epic duel. Warhammer Total War made things even better with magic and monsters in the mix.

You a dumb shounenshitter and probably a spic too. I want the mixture of awesome generals like irl and units actually being able to pull the kind of feats they did irl.

There are only a couple of the warlords that are actually fun to play as factions in my opinion. Many are extremely similiar and therefore boring in playstyle which the game needs since military battles pretty much ending up the same. Character progression system is also extremely weak. Map - building - items - diplomacy is pretty solid though you'll just get tired after the early game though once it consolidates into 3k.

Skill trees should not exist in Total War, the less character progression the better. Also fuck unique mechanics, bring back the sandbox feel of the older games.

>Archers do too little damage
Archers suck for anything other than setting things on fire. Use crossbows for killing and think of archers as an incendiary specialist. Repeating crossbows are even better and can annihilate any enemy general in the game without having to bother with duelists.

>Money is too sparse to raise enough troops early on
It's only too sparse to field full armies of 18 units, but you don't need full stacks in the early game to conquer stuff. Try two full retinues, or four units on each general until you can afford more, and focus first and foremost on units with killing power, ie. crossbows or cavalry. Going full melee (sabre, not spear) can be made to work too, but you'll need some extra sources of replenishment.

>why are most diplomatic options unavailable such as vassalage until you're a duke or whatever
Probably because by that point, the game becomes smooth sailing if you know what you're doing. Having strong allies and vassals gives you map control, and the visibility you get reveals just how bad the AI is at maneuvering the map.

Basically, if you want to stabilize your position in the early game, either join Yuan Shao's coalition or focus all your effort on ranking up to second marquis asap and then bribe someone strong to join you. It's a huge deterrent against random AI declarations and can allow you to build in peace or at least to choose your fights.

Play Kong Rong and become the rice merchant you were always meant to be

>>1903900
The sandbox feel makes for very boring samey campaigns. Unique mechanics are good, they at least give you a niche to play around.
>>1904327
I will say that the early game is EXTREMELY punishing in 3k if you make a mistake.
>>1904353
I like the old man in the mountains who starts an industrial revolution. You get a nice easily defendable position to turtle up in since the AI maphacks (like any total war game) any undefended province and you dont get enough time to actually bring units over too defend.

Guide to diplomacy? I'm playing to Liu Bei and everyone hates me. Everyone says I beat up their friends. I didn't start any of my wars.

those mechanics should just be universal, but CA cant sell DLC without giving the new faction something overtly overtuned that only they get to have

Sounds like you're trying to be everyone's friend. Generally that makes disliked by everybody. Better to pick a few factions to cultivate as allies, then avoid fighting their friends while attacking their enemies. Although if you can get NAPs/Military Access, you're probably good even if they don't technically like you.

Also, out of the three post-battle options, recruiting the captives is what the AI hates the most IIRC.

Recruiting is fine just like ransoming them, the only dishonorable option is stealing their supplies and leaving the men to rot

After buying and playing this game over the weekend, I have concluded that this game is good. Fancy that.
>>
>>1906192
It's a strategy game, so ironically it's the complete opposite of what total war fans want.

The scene unfolds in a luxurious, dimly lit restaurant with a private room draped in red and gold. A lavish spread of dishes—steaming bowls of fine delicacies, succulent meats, and elegant desserts—fills the long table. Liu Bei and Cao Cao are seated across from each other, engaged in a friendly yet somewhat tense conversation.

Cao Cao, wearing a confident smirk, raises his goblet in a gesture of camaraderie. "Liu Bei, I must admit, our political rivalry is something... but tonight, let us put that aside and enjoy a meal together."

Liu Bei, ever the tactician, smiles warmly but has a glint of mischief in his eyes. "Indeed, tonight is about good food and good company. How rare it is for us to share a peaceful moment like this."

The conversation flows, the tension between them palpable, yet strangely intimate. However, as the evening progresses, Liu Bei's movements become a little more calculated. Cao Cao, engrossed in the conversation, doesn't notice as Liu Bei slowly edges his way closer to the door.

Just as Cao Cao is in the middle of an enthusiastic explanation of his military conquests, Liu Bei rises to his feet with practiced grace. "Ah, Cao Cao, I must take my leave. There are urgent matters to attend to."

Cao Cao, barely noticing Liu Bei's subtle movements, chuckles and nods. "Of course, of course. But I must say, Liu Bei, your loyalty to your word is impressive."

Liu Bei offers a quick bow and a smile before walking briskly toward the exit.

As the door closes behind him, Cao Cao pauses mid-sentence, then glances around in confusion. The air grows colder, and the realization dawns. His eyes widen as he looks at the empty seat across from him, his expression turning from amusement to bewilderment. He reaches for his own goblet, only to notice that the bill is resting on his side of the table, waiting for him to pay.

With a sigh, Cao Cao shakes his head, muttering to himself, "Of course. Always the schemer..."

Theres quite a bit of jank to it, like for example the "Looters" faction council absolutely punishing you if you choose to edge camp. Early game is also a diplomatic mess usually with the AI hating your shit as you get a dog pile of war declarations until you get powerful enough to scare them and they no longer war declaration cascade. For example as Dong Zhou you have to survive essentially with Lu Bu as you take out Ma Teng (and recruit him) and the other fucker in the corner diplomacy be damned. If you manage to secure your position, get some peace deals, and get the emperor of age you will absolutely dominate china can start to pick away at coalitions declaring people enemy of the han since you will generation more imperial points than others.

I actually really liked the skill trees in Shogun 2. It was nice to have a few main generals that you buff out their campaign movement points and unit stats, then you turn one general into your badass fighter champion, and another guy into your admiral. I thought it gave a lot of diversity to the generals over Medieval 2 where they are basically either military guys or civic guys depending on their dread or chivalry.
