I don't like how one has god-view and telepathy in most strategy games (like being able to tell exactly how a battle is going, being able to see the exact strength of units, being able to give orders that are executed immediately)

any games where you can't micro that much but have to rely on preset plans being executed by the AI?
(ideally one would get "status updates" and be able to send orders every X-hours)

From my experience

Full Spectrum Warrior
You order (not control) a sergeant of a squad, or his second-in-command should he be wounded. The commands themselves are performed by the squad. You got 2 squads in most missions (exceptionally having command of a third one)
Rebel Inc.
You give a general order to armed forces and they make the best of it depending on terrain. Very basic. Same for economy, you give order for initiatives and your middle management/officials take care of rest. More orders you pass, more corruption grows and middle management start affecting your reputation which is needed to win each scenario. Also available on phones.

Literally Radio Commander, came out recently. Played it, was alright. Not bad, not great.

Dominions 6, telling the strength of the enemy requires intensive scouting and even then you don't really have the full amount of information.

You pre-script your armies then they fight automatically. Multiplayer is where the real fun is had and people typically submit turns once or twice a day.

Sprites on basic 3d environments is a timeless aesthetic and is both more legible and pleasing to look at than most modern games. ESPECIALLY modern TW games, which have good modelling/animation work per individual unit but look like muddy, vaseline-smeared messes as soon as you're not trying to peer down a skaven's nose or something.

Upgrading the sprites so some whiny zoomer doesn't piss their pants not a project worth pulling off, the devs have a real job basket weaving as well so "upgrading sprites" would take a few years and the devs wouldn't be able to work on new features.
