Been playing this game a lot recently and it hits the spot like nothing else.
> play as the Gizureans (insectoid aliens that fuck like crazy)
> set the tax rate to 3%
> watch the population explode
> mfw 30 billion bugz
> go ballz deep into research
> raise tax rate to 20%
> 100k cashflow
> construct huge motherships with hundreds of fighters and bombers and nukes
> find the nearest civilisation
> nuke the poop out of their colonies
> gain "diabolical" reputation
> everyone declares war on me
> state of eternal war and suffering
> killed like 100 billion lifeforms
11/10 would stick my dick in Gizurean butt

Only downside is that there aren't that many mods for this game and the ones that exist don't change the game that much.

Is this stellaris but more autistic?

Bump question

it's a spess 4X with logistics and optional automation for everything when you get tired of doing literally everything like a true autistic dictator
>>
if you post the russian spyware link for this i will play it and post the AARs (on /gsg/)

Just look up distant worlds universe GOG or firgirl. I just got it today after this thread. It's pretty chill. Started as Human Despot, didn't really know how to do anything, immideately got into a war as soon as I got my first colony and then lost it to occulation. Didn't stop the war for good 50 years whilst running with just one planet military maxxxing. Finally took a colony from the bugs that took mine and accepted peace. If I can figure this automationshit, will expand my fleet to the max and start a crusade against all bugs of the galaxy. Just kind of annoying how your fleets would rather prioritise doing whatever the fuck they want like attacking some mining station instead of defending one of the colonies when it gets bombarded. Have to micro every fleet at every colony and spam defense platforms
>>
>>1912520
I played 1 game and won because the AI just did everything for me. I know that you can turn that off but it's super weird gamedesign to have everything turned on in the first place.
>>
>>1912520
One of my favorites too, OP.
>playing as the Kaidan, start near the rim of the upper galactic north northeast
>never get much further expansion-wise than that, maybe 9 planets or so when all the other empires had more than double-digit numbers of colonies
>but that’s fine because this is Distant Worlds Universe and the mechanics allow for tall vs wide play to be really fun regardless of which you end up with
>Kaidans are the super-geeks anyways, soon have best tech in the galaxy, and close relations with the Ancient Guardians
>Shakturi events start late game, they end up settling on a planet on the rim to the far galactic east
>Shakturi do what Shakturi do, fuck everyone’s shit up
>get granted a fleet of high tech Guardian ships, set off to blow up Shakturi
>ALERT ALERT ALERT SHAKTURI PLANET DESTORYER EN ROUTE TO COLONY
>and not just any colony, it’s my homeworld
>Shakturi planet destroyer warps right atop the homeworld of the Kaidan, main weapon charging to fire
>overall its ~30 seconds of in-game time before it fires, and having not actually played the Shakturi event before, all my fleets are horribly out of position
>Kaidan homeworld turned to dust moments later
>overall the Shakturi planet buster fleet was able to take out one or two more Kaidan colonies out before finally being cornered and obliterated
>at this point the other Empires have been besieging the Shakturi homeworld
>mostly just a blockade, the Shakturi can’t build any ships that aren’t immediately blown up but their ground presence is too fortified to take with a planetary invasion
>orbital bombardment is also not an option since their planetary shield generator actually stops all bombardment from working
>however I do notice during a failed invasion that if friendly forces are on the ground, the shield generator turns off
>fuck it, this is for Kaidania
>gather all the troops, prepare the nuclear bombs, and land everyone on that bug hole at once
>>
>>1917652
Part 2 of 2
>ground forces land and the shield is deactivated
>“God bless you, boys, you didn’t deserve this.”
>the orbital bombardment fleet rains down its nuclear arsenal on top of the now exposed Shakturi homeworld
>friendly and enemy forces are now being obliterated
>thankfully the shield generator building is destroyed before all friendly forces are
>continue the bombardment, orders are to not stop until the Shakturi population is 0
>I think the overall time in-game it must have taken weeks
>but it was done eventually
>get the victory screen after as well as being given complete and total control of the Ancient Guardian homeworld and all their existing spacecraft
>still a hollow burnt out shell of an admiral that lost his homeworld, multiple planets, and committed the entirety of his Empire’s armed forces to a suicide attack
That last bit is obviously an exaggeration, but I like this game for all the autistic role play opportunities too.
>>
>>1914789
I personally wish logistics and planets in general had more to do with them. Planets as they are just grow population and have a handful of installations you can just drop onto them. Not very in depth.

How does Distant Worlds 2 hold up?
>>
Fun game, but I forgot how to play, and I usually abuse of the diplomacy bug.
>>
>>1919135
It's good, but it feels more like a sidegrade to 1 than a pure upgrade. You'll either like it more or less depending on what your issues with 1 are.
>>
Man I should get into this game sometime
>>
is distantworlds 2 better than distanct worlds 1? on paper it looks like dw1 still has more features and some cool mechanics like a dynamic private vs state economy etc. but dw2 apparently has some nice qol features. are thee extra autism worth the extra struggle of dw1?
>>
>>1928328
Dw2 has the dynamic economy split too. The only thing 2 really outright lacks that 1 had is orbiting planets. Everything else is either an improvement or just different and can rub you right or wrong.
>>
I am once again lamenting the developers for not including orbiting bodies in DW2
>>
>>1928714
They fucked up by having the planets exist physically rather than just being graphical elements under the map. It's already annoying when your ships get stuck on them because the ai can't plot a movement path around. I can't imagine the clusterfuck that would be navigation with collidable bodies.
>>
>>1912520
shit game, the dev is incompetent fuck who couldnt make functional UI even if his life depended on it
>>
I like watching the private transport ships and imagine what is going on inside them

cheers. 2 it is then. now to figure out how to play...
>>

>now to figure out how to play...
It's easy.
Restart until you get research bonus on home planet. Ideally you should have 1 on home + 1 on moon + 1 or more from ruins, but it most cases 2 reseach bonuses in home system is ok.
Research warp engine2, resource scanners (both), cargo cells2 (it need for steal dense fuel cells), engine2, reactor 2(it need for steal fisuion ignition). T3 warp and engines. Large station and fast mining. Then research that you need, i personally like t3 construction yard.
Improved civ ships and colonization depend on how fast you can find friendly ind. colony. Research espionage academy for that sweet spy bonus.
Use spies (with smbassadors) for steal techs, military techs should be limited to armor/shield/fighters/assault pods/pd/1 type of weapon.
Also you need ion protection from armor or shield for explore nebulas, all treasures is hidden there. Resource scanner 40lvl allow you to build a lot more rss stations.
Always keep at least 40k cash for bribe pirates. Don't build military ships. Build constructor ships if you need it. Spam scout ships as much as possible, in mid game you should have 100 of them.
You should to find and repair abandoned ships. If you find early good ones you can stomp ai.
Keep in mind Shaakturi spawn when player (or AI but it's never happened with me) research certain amount of techs, so don't disassemble obtained ships until late and don't research blue techs too much. Usually i research science academy, t2 gov building and done until gravitic rifts spawn.
First "big" threat is Hive. If you have enough big troop ships, you can capture them, but need to have t2 (better t3) assault pods. Hive destroyers and frigates is good, but carriers is that you really want.
When you done with Hive you should prep to Shaakturi. For me it mostly mean that i focus on research labs and buildings, since when they will spawn i want to have as much researchs as i want.
>Comment too long
Okay, i think enough.
>>
what do you do with all your research stations after you've researched everything?
>>
>>1930339
Its a real fucking shame more games dont have shit like civilian/private traffic/sector.
>>
>>1931382
it has its issues, civilian sector AI is super retarded, goes for resources on the other side of the galaxy, sells them even if they are critical for your industry etc. its infuriating.
>>
>>1931423
It worked fine in DW1..
Still, i love it because it adds lots of life to the game.
Same in Aurora and games like CMANO or Sea Power.
>>
>>1930339
it is extremely comfy to see
>>
>>1930627
this is so fucking useful. thank you. I didnt know how to tech properly and was wasting money trying to build up a military. will pirates ever protect me or do I just need to pay them off? any thought on space monsters? or tips on a human run? again, cheers
>>
Love this game, just wish it didn't crash so much. Anyone know if DW2 is more stable?
>>
>>1931423
My favorite part is using the map editor to spawn fully formed empires and watching the game become a slideshow in >1 year because of the trade ships clogging the memory
>>
>>1931919
>wasting money trying to build up a military
Sometimes you need to build something since agressive neighbour. But in most cases you can delay war by gits and pacts.
>will pirates ever protect me or do I just need to pay them off?
You bribe them for not attacking you. Usually you can have "protection" w/o additional pays, but if they dislike you much. like -30 or more, you need to pay gift for having "protection". Iirc with +10 you can have non-agression pact.
>any thought on space monsters?
Small missile ships if you really need to deal with space creatures and you very unlucky so can't find decent abandoned ships. But you need intensive micro them for avoid losses.
>tips on a human run?
Humans should have event with ghost fleet, pay them and they join you.
Human's hangar tech can save you research a little, but it worse than regular hangar.
Their spies have a chance to gain trait "industrial agent" that incr. espionage. Not so powerful advantage since you can steal charas from every races tho.
Spies is very powerfull in general, and AI don't know how to properly use them. Your leader can have bonus to espionage as skill, sometimes i change leader to fishing it - skills have a chance to adding to leader when "something" happens. Ambassadors also can have bonus to espionage as skill, you need to have them in faction where you steal techs.
But there's a chance to reveal your operation and it will hurt your reputation so be careful. Iirc when you steal techs from pirates there's no rep loss. Save high tech level pirates, they is your source of free techs in mid game.
If we say about power gaming, you should steal necessary race techs like mentioned fuel cells and fusion ignition, and then focus on steal spies, scientists and ambassadors. But control spies is very microintensive, and Ai can't properly use them. One time when Shaakturi arrive i had like 100 spies, 50 scientists and enough ambassadors for every faction on map.
