Having played a shit-ton of strategy games, from C&C to CMANO/CMO and Graviteam, DoK takes the sweet spot for me. Feel free to hate the story, retcons (not that anything after HW1 kept to a canon), but the campaign missions are cool and the game mechanics is pretty much peak comfy RTS to me.>carrier is the mobile base, but can be made into a powerful unit>upgrades are all done through the carrier, so you don't need to control-group buildings and shit, just like C&C>air is produced, but acts as call-in, no floating air units>mobile SAMs rule>terrain is important, so micro is about plausible tactics rather than exploiting the "units attack nearest enemy" rule>artillery is a thing and it's powerful>no infantry, so there's no "buildings produce dudes" nonsenseThere's a metric ton of shit that's wrong with DoK, but it's just because BBI are retards that couldn't grasp the potential of the product that they made.>limited game modes>DLC that's just factions for online and skirmish>no map editor or mod toolsWay to kill your game, retards. Still here I am playing it.Anyway, who is your favorite faction? Are Gaalsien based? Is Rachel more sexy than a Salvage Corvette?
>>1922444Some of the issues come from DoK starting as a spiritual prequel then shifting into an actual prequel when they obtained the licence part way through development.I don't really see the retcons as a bad thing because they fleshed out the backstory. What I disliked was how they doubled down and went with the most boring and uninteresting option in 3 rather than using it as an opportunity to turn the whole s'jet bloodline thing on its head.Anyway I like DoK just because it gives heavy Ground Control vibes.
I liked it, infact I was surprised that HM3 was a blunder
>>1922577I haven't paid much attention to the discourse surrounding HW3 due to its high level of "it has a girl character that isn't attractive so now it's ruined forever", but was it actually bad on a mechanical level or was it really just incel seethe?
I enjoyed DoK and played the campaign twice
>>1922444>>carrier is the mobile base, but can be made into a powerful unit>>no infantry, so there's no "buildings produce dudes" nonsenseControversial opinion:Deserts of Kharak is Command & Conquer 4 but good.
>>1922584Diff anon, loved every HW game, 1,2,dok,cata/emergence to varying degrees. Pick up hw3, it's the exact same length as dok from what I recall, 13 missions with the first one a tutorial and some of the missions are so basic they almost play themselves so it's over very fast. Story sucks. It had potential, some of the ideas could have been developed into an interesting game but the focus on navigator drama over everything else really doesn't do the game any favors and rarely does anything worth mentioning happen both in-game and in cutscenes. Mechanically the game was braindead simple at launch, deathball fleet worked almost all the time. All the post launch content is for wargames which is a 3 player coop roguelite mode where you have a limited fleet, just a carrier, no mothership and mostly smaller vessels. There's a handful of randomized levels and objectives with difficulty mods you can enable. You play it a few times and have seen almost everything. If you grind out levels you can get a few new ships and modifiers for your fleet. I hit level 20 mostly solo and gave up. Skirmish is basically dead unless you have hard-core hw friends to do customs with. The game looks and sounds amazing, I have a nice pc and it runs really well since the patches hit. Very few stutters or drops unless it's the biggest battles possible. It's fucking boring though, feels like all the personality the other games had is missing. Even stuff like radio chatter just isn't quite up there with previous games and dok had great chatter imo.
>>1922584The best way I could describe the feel of HW3 was it felt like I was fighting with the game every step of the way for control. I even reinstalled and booted up HW2 just to see if I was gaslighting myself over the controls and it was a night and day difference. HW2 was snappy and responsive while HW 3 was sluggish with very poor selection detection in general. It made it absolute hell to play when they made space megastructures that you have to swing your camera around the core feature of the game. Also they tried to appeal to the HW1 grognards by removing squadron based building which just made the game a button mash macro fest to replenish losses. Everything about the game was flawed to the point that the complaints about the story are an afterthought. Even the story was amazing the game would have still felt bad to play.
>>1922584you should play it
>>1922444>no infantry, so there's no "buildings produce dudes" nonsenseabsolutely moronic take, you don't deserve RTS games. Stay in your reddit take containment website
>My desert>My Kharak>My DuneRaaaah give me a wargame mods for Dok2 !!

>>1924145wait till you discover your shit floating in the toilet is russia too
Deserts of KazakhstanKiith Borat
Playing for the first time right now. What little I heard about the game is that the campaign is very short and that the multiplayer was very good.
>>1924189it's more like indonesia
DoK can't be played offline anymore so i can only wish that i'll be able to play it again one day.I loved the coalition battlecruisers the most. Did you know that if you manage to grab your planes mid-flight then you can start ordering them like regular units?
>>1922875I drive my big production building all the way to your main base and park inside.
>>1927095I believe the GoG version still can be played offline since it doesn't have the update for epic services and iirc the steam version can be rolled back to the previous patch.
Eat shit coalition !K'Had Sajuuk aka CHAD Sajuuk did nothing wrong.
