Gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised. The last TW I really played the shit out of was Shogun 2 and most of what I tried after that just didn't land. Seemed like the games were getting too linear, the game mechanics were devolving, and they just didn't look as good as Shogun 2. But I just got done with 8 hours on the Odysseus campaign and holy fuck this game is beautiful, has an awesome diplomacy system and generally plays really well. I feel like most complaints you could levy, like lack of unit variety and cavalry, are more an issue with the setting rather than the actual game design. And Shogun basically had those same issues being set on a small, homogenous island cluster. I really like the gameplay in Troy, and I just can't get over how fucking awesome it looks. If you've walked away from the TW games because of how gay they were for so long, give this one a chance while it's on sale.
>inb4 medieval 2 or nothing
Yeah I know, I still play Stainless Steel all the time, but it's nice to have something new that doesn't massively suck. Anybody try 3K or Britannia?

Just finished my first 3K campaign tonight as Liu Bei. It's a good game that could've been great with further development; they added a lot of depth to the strategy phase but there's a bit of jank that comes with it, especially in the diplomacy mechanics. UI is a trainwreck. 8.5/10 but thought it the best out of the three TW games I've played so far (the others being Attila and the original Rome).

>muh single entities
Every soldier in your army should be a single entity with its own stats, skills, traits, equipment and armor. They should engage in fights in formation according to their skills or engage in single combat.
The fact that army units rotate and move mechanically like a wheel in "historical total wars" (old) is a laughable abstraction created only because engine limitations.
volound is a cuckumist that cannot walk and cannot defend his ideals against mermaid obsessed autist little girls

Troy was free when it came out and so was half of the DLC, why did no one get it?
>>
>>1925597
They just can't appreciate good games like I can.
>>
>>1925598
Troy was pretty good. I liked the special training you could do for your units with Diomedes.

>>
>>1926069
its just Atilla plus, it have some nice ideas but in general its still atilla
also the map is quite large with 1 building settlement and its annoying to chase some faggots around
not fan of the setting too
>>1925619
I just said that was on free on epic and i didn't even bothered with epic in first place
>>
lets all agree that warhammer is shit
>>
>>1925614
are we supposed be to familiar with this specific episode of Chinese history
>>
>>1926079
I mean if you want to play TW 3 kingdoms what is better for knowing characters and factions than watching drama for the period?(in this case Three Kingdoms(2010))
>>
>>1926076
I never had any of these online DRM platforms until Empire Total War 15 years ago.
Put the disk into my pc and it installed Steam then steam auto updated to a broken patch that bricked my game for half a year.

yes.
>>
>>1926076
thanks, I actually never played Attila but I didn't really like Rome 2
>>
>>1926078
it wasn't that bad at start but in wh3 it get worse
i have zero fun in battles and ar is usually better decision than fighting manually - mostly because AR always wipe enemy stack but manually killing routers is fucking pain to sometimes impossible
also with free replenishment, loot coin and exp from battles being dominant there is more focus on constant battle - in older games battles cost you and you fought for something, either attacking or defending territory, or trying to destroy or preserve your forces, here enemy is like loot pinatas - you go and smash and that make you richer and stronger

this is nice to hear. I just started playing total war with Rome 2 but got Troy free through epic and was deciding which to play first. So far it's pretty fun facerolling everyone as rome. Going to try Troy next. Got Shogun 2 also but haven't tried it yet.
>>
>>1926224
I've loved Shogun 2 since the day it came out. Tried Rome 2 but wasn't crazy about it because of the retardedly huge cities on the map and a few other things but maybe I'll give it another try after Troy. Highly recommend you try Troy, It's like a really good blend of Shogun 2 and some of Rome 2's elements.
>>
>>1926224
Also Shogun 2 is a lot more like classic TW games in terms of building shit and game mechanics. I'd say that was were the franchise really started to shift into its more modern form. If you don't own Medieval 2 you don't know what you're missing. The vanilla game is boring as fuck though compared to the mods that were created.
>Tsardoms
>Stainless Steel
>Third Age
>Broken Crescent
I usually play one Medieval 2 campaign a year and this year I did the Teutonic Knights but migrated South to Syria and made Antioch my capital with Cyprus as my main military base. One of my best Total War experiences yet.
>>
>>1925555
the communist neet did more damage to old school TW than CA
>>
>>1926078
Nah, it's the first good Total War since Med2 and the only one with tactical depth.
>>
>>1927581
Link some good tactical WH gameplay
>>
>>1925580
>thinks only old TW formations rotated like that
