Which RTS has the BEST unit chatter of all time?

Blizzard is renowned its 4th-wall breaking "comedy" lines in WC/SC
Relic has a combination of both gritty chatter and the occasional comedy in DoW/CoH
Homeworld has realistic ambient radio chatter
AoE2 has standard lines, but is native to each of 45 civilizations
AoE4 has the language advance to suit the period

Personally, I think Homeworld games have the best chatter because of the immersion

Relic was peak for its variety. I don't think any other game has units call you out for ridiculous orders like trying to attack a tank with riflemen. Blizzard's lines, while certainly classic, would be considered trite today.

CoH has a lot of voice lines for different situations and moods. The radio static you hear when the units are far away is a nice touch.
EndWar has voice lines not just for different unit types but also for individual units of the same type hailing from their respective codenames
Age of Empires 3 has you command multinational armies of regular soldiers, outlaws, mercenaries and natives so there's a bunch of different languages thrown around. And even units speaking the same language can use different dialects.
I also like Star Trek Armada's for no particular reason. Nostalgia, I guess.

CoH2 gets my vote. Lots of gems there. Could listen to voice line compilations for hours to get me through work back in the day.

For me it's DoW2 because of all the dynamic responses that let you know what's happening with your units. Like specific voice calling out being attacked by specific enemy. And they also had good voice acting
Other than that HW games has really cool chatter, and Warcraft 3 in general had cool lines and voice work.

don't forget that they have different voicelines based on experience. Rookie units are hesitant while veteran units are cocky.
If you put a rookie command vehicle's in danger they start cursing you which is great.
That game was soulful but very very mediocre to play.

Brutal Legend and Dawn of War 2 (plus expansions) are the two games that I know that have gone far and beyond with this. All speaking units have various lines suited for every possible situation they might find themselves in. As a small trade-off there are also silent or just grunting ones but you shouldn't expect eloquence out of voracious space bugs.

WiC is one of my favorite games, but for me it loses points because 1. You have to zoom in to absurd degrees to hear this, and 2. any unit other than American and British ones will have their chatter in another languages without subtitles.

Good unit chatter should have variety, immersive small talk, and most importantly be understandable otherwise it may as well be gibberish.

It's not always bad, but it needs to be capable of being understood. We all get what "prostagma" means after a while, that's not possible in the WiC example.

Kino shit. It's also the only RTS I've played where units have different dialogue depending on their circumstances, as opposed to the generic select/move/attack trifecta. Select them when they're milling around your base you get a generic greeting, select them in the middle of a firefight and you get a panicked I'M A LITTLE FUCKING BUSY!
Why don't more games do that?

Out of all of these AoE2 is the least annoying.
Get a new civ and have a slightly different experience if you got bored of the previous lines.
Now the others will get some phrases stuck in your head for weeks and prevent you from enjoying it further since the repeats are so much more jarring, over time feeling like a bad rap song.

They were also available as an off-map call-in that was also uncontrollable once deployed. You could park those at chokepoints or send them right at the enemy to spearhead an assault.
