Mein Bruders, it is with great sorrow and regret that I must inform you that our preemptive conquest of self-defense against our nemesis empire, despite stunning initial success, has stalled out, turned into a meat grinder, and completely turned against us. Our generals failed in their initial objective of surrounding and starving the enemy capitol. Once the pincer assault failed, the main eastern front sustained terrible losses, at least 5000 casualties per turn, before the battered survivors were forced to retreat and entrench in the ruins surrounding our isthmus capitol. The northern front, guarded by sparse militia and reserves... completed shattered. The decision to commit to withdrawal enabled us to hold out for another year of fighting, with the hope that our expanded production would allow us to produce more light armor and eventually turn the tables. This did not turn out to be the case, however, as the loss of our resources stalled our economy and the approaching enemy threw our populous into panic. In this short war of four years, resulting in our nation's total annihilation, we sustained 38k military casualties... some 35% of our nation's entire population, while our capitol city of 101k suffered at least 50% civilian dead and wounded once it capitulated. The true numbers are unknown and lost in the rubble... After the fall of our capitol, only 4.2k survivors remained in pockets isolated in the ruins to the west and north. Despite starvation and lack of ammunition, they were able to launch one successful counterattack to regroup in the west. A final, desperate bid to retake our capitol ultimately failed, and our last armed remnants were overrun and crushed without mercy. TO BE CONTINUED...

[2/2] Although our men defended our homeland valiantly, the casualties they were able to inflict were humbling: only 17k. All 180 of our light tanks, although promising and superior in design, were lost. They were our only hope, and our strongest weapon in this war, successfully counterattacking at key strategic junctions and delaying our enemy's relentless counteroffensive. The total number of enemy tanks destroyed, also 180. But the total number of existing enemy tanks is estimated to have been over 1100. The industrial superiority of our nemesis was simply too much for us to bear. I am afraid... our nation is lost... and I must reroll to economically boom for another 15 turns before preemptively invading again.

So close to getting the encirclement, perhaps if you got it the outcome would have been much different. Nice Timelapse! Valiant effort.

They just had too much armor when they reformed their line, and the terrain wasn’t doing you much favors. Did you have RPGs? What stratagems did you use? I feel like you should have done better recon and realized a defensive war of attrition is your only viable strategy

I support more Shadow Empire AARs

Thanks. I saw an awesome Shadow Empire timelapse a couple of years ago and have been making them myself since then. Forgot to loop this one.

Spies seem to be broken in this version of the game. They die like flies, almost to the point of being a bug because it seems you can’t actually have spies survive within other majors over the course of one turn. MTHs, on the other hand, provide solid intel on the coasts via intelligence contracts.

Did not unlock rpgs until after we fell back to entrench in the ruins. Forgot to mention that this nemesis is steamrolling the map on all other fronts and controls at least 40% of the globe already. And there’s no population or apparent resources to gain by turning westwards. It really felt like a now or never scenario.

They might have a secret service council being pumped with BPs. Shame you didn’t have more light armor, maybe some assault guns too. I never tried nemesis yet but I’d imagine it would be horrifying seeing the casualties each turn and frantically trying to avoid your front collapsing
