Why the fuck is it that every time I click on the "Strategy" tag on Steam it's always>Roguelike deckbuilder>CRPG>Porn game>MOBA>CRPG>Roguelike deckbuilder>Worse remake of a classic RTS>Roguelike deckbuilder>Roguelike deckbuilder>An actual strategy game (either complete garbage or the same thing you've seen about a thousand times so far)I like roguelikes and CRPGs, don't get me wrong. But I expect that when I click "Strategy" the listed games are strategy games, not games with a mild requirement for strategic thinking because that's 99% of all videogames. It's either that or some tactical shooter (CSGO isn't a fucking strategy game, what the fuck is it doing in the "Strategy" tag). It doesn't have to be some big war game or historic RTS, I just want an actual strategy game where the main factor determining success is your goddamn strategy.I just want the early 2000s golden age of strategy games to come back.

>>1935672I think it's time for STRATEGY IS OVER, Pt. 2
>>1935672Users are the one adding the tags >early 2000s golden age of strategy games to come back. Some (or most?) of those game are still alive, you can play age of empires 2 right now in single player and even have no problem finding a match online What exactly do you want? Endless stream of slop (You already have it) so you can hop from one game to another? Isn't player retention one of the main perks of strategy games
>>1935674zoomer redditor upset that he can't force racemixing into game genres
>>1935672>Searching Steam for tagsYour first mistake. While that worked in 2018 it's no longer viable, you can't find games by tag anymore it's always the big popular ones that are barely tangentially related to the tag and nothing else for every tag.
>>1935672Blame Valve for that. When you make a new app you have to select what Genres (essentially high level tags) it belongs to, and there are so few that they necessarily become extremely broad catch-all descriptors.
>>1935672Your complaining is all over the place. If you wanted recs, you could've put that in a less roundabout way.
You deserve it. You deserve this. You bullied God Games for decades for not fitting properly into the strategy genre. You never name God Games with other Real-Time-Strategy Games. You never name them with Turn-Based Strategy Games, because they obviously aren't turn-based. You completely refused them their own genre.
>>1936587At last we will reveal ourselves to the strategy gamers. At last we will have our revenge.
>>1935672I have the same issue. Almost every genre on Steam is fucked due to this, thanks Valve.>>1936587Kek.
>>1935672> I just want the early 2000s golden age of strategy games to come back. You mean, the golden age of tactical military outpost building & resource gathering operations management games? Can you name at least one strategy game which is really about strategy?
>>1937017>Can you name at least one strategy game which is really about strategy? They can't. Strategy is over. All "strategy" games are RNG casinos. There will never be any further development in the genre.
>>1935672And then you realize even the games you think are strategy games are operative level at best or even tactical. Which isn't bad in itself, I prefer operative level games but as a game genre "strategy" is completely false and made up anyway.
>>1935672Just make a new term to refer to the strategy games you have in mind and popularize it. There are a lot of people who share this gripe, so I imagine it'll take off and attract at least a curator. From there, you formalize it.
>>19370544x, nigga.
>>1935672People see the word 'strategy' and instead of recognizing it as a specific genre, they see it as a generic adjective, so they use it in any context that's at least remotely strategic. Some other tags like 'adventure game' are even more misused.

>>1936780So this is how Strategy dies... with thunderous applause.
>>1937075In vast majority of 4x games you're still fiddling with individual engagements and even worse in some cases, fiddling individual units (whatever they may be) within those individual engagements.
>>1937298Name them.
>>1937305Don't be disingenuous. When you think in terms of what terrain an individual engagement takes place in it has stopped being strategic level a long time ago.
>>1937308>can't name any of the "vast majority" of games in questionWhy do you all even come here? You complain about games you don't play, pretend you play them, pretend you WOULD play them, and then just talk to other people who don't play games about all the flaws that pervade your imaginary games you still don't play. That's what /v/ is for. Go back.
>>1937313Okay, take for example Endless Legend. It is a 4X game, no? You are in command of individual engagements, no? Just as in practically every other 4x game, including the classics like master of magic or master of orion.
>>1935672Just use the hipster search function that let's you specify how old and popular you want recommendations to be..
What's the point of this thread? Just seething at tags?
>>1937316Don't know. First one to come to mind for me is Oriental Empires, and you only macromanage armies in that game.
