I think I outgrew this kind of games.
At first, I thought CK3 was just a shit and an exception to the rule, because pdx decided to make medieval sims for women instead of GSG. Alright, fair enough. The game sold well after all, who am I to judge them.
But now EU5 came out, and after a hundred hours I feel as bored as I was with CK3.
You just collect green modifiers and paint map.
No dynamic management, no interesting character situations, no proper warfare or strategy. Economy is alright, but once you figure it out, it too becomes just a boring grind because it's so fucking static.
I feel like I'm regressing back to Total War type of GSG lmao..
Does anyone feel somewhat similar?

it's meant to represent mechanics and gameplay as opposed to actual outcome. By 1821, eu4 looks a lot more historical and closer to an actual map of that time as opposed to eu5, but eu5 feels infinitely more like a historical simulator than eu4, which is pretty much the peak of "gamey"
Also I don't have many hours in ck2 and never touched vic3 so those are mainly based off what I've seen and heard

in eu4 you can literally colonize an entire continent as an OPM and do a world conquest less than 100 years after the start date, eu5 is absolutely more realistic in that regard

eu4 should be somewhere in the middle between gamiest and most historical

i like how the major criticism of eu5 is events being opaque when thats literally how they work in every paradox game
meanwhile shittoria 3 has literally no flavor events outside of short scripted journal entries and it makes the entire game feel dead when you see how shallow all its game mechanics are

the foundation of eu4 is literally bird, paper, and sword points. No pop system, extremely basic warfare, provinces are completely static "one or the other religion/culture", eu4 is the prime example of a gamey grand strategy. CK2/3 shares some stuff like development and no pop system, but mechanically it's still a lot closer to real history. And even if vic3 is shit, it's still more grounded than eu4

Regarding CK3 DLC's, is the DLC content active in the world and used by AI when not purchased? as in, are there DLCs that if you purchase/enable, makes the game miserable for their neighbors? I've been perusing steam reviews and that seems to come up, i.e. playing a rooskie is harder with the steppe DLC, or are the changes baseline and in the vanilla game? Played the game back at launch and enjoyed it but quit after ~30 hours, looking to play it again and wondering which DLC to prioritize. Strongly considering roads to power and tours/tourneys, royal court.
