As I said, they seemed to have used wooden rollers, and used wheels with rotary motion in textile and ceramic production, but as far as using wheels and axels on full scale carts rather then just the miniature ceramic models? No, probably not.

There are some depictions of wheeled carts in the Codex Duran (pic) and accounts which describe their use transporting monuments, but it's generally thought that this is more the result of Post-contact practices and technologies being retroactively applied to Prehispanic events. It's possible that they really did just use carts before contact too, but if they did it would have been very uncommon.

As >>2319402 says, without draft animals, and especially in a region which is largely swamps and jungles in the lowlands and mountain and valley ranges in the highlands, wheeled carts simply aren't that useful over people using back mounted carrying frames. Look at transportation and logistics in Japan for much of it's history, they even had beasts of burden and still relied on human driven logistics for the most part.

As for why no wheelbarrows, as I understand it, those show up pretty late even in Eurasia, and you need more complex wheel designs to support them and other devices that make use of wheels like water mills, and without an initial incentive to develop/use basic wheels for carts, they may have never had a reason to experiment with other uses and more complex wheel designs

Part of that might also be because wooden wheels benefit a lot from metal supports to avoid splitting, and Metallurgy shows up late in Mesoamerica: Gold, Silver and Copper smithing only becomes a thing around 600AD, and Bronze was only smelted starting a few centuries before Spanish contact. The lack of wheels might also have been a reason why metallurgy shows up so late, because making those metal support bands for wheels was a major driver for the development and iteration of utilitarian metallurgy in Eurasia.

>>
>>2319438
>wheels with rotary motion in textile and ceramic production
Is this some kind of semantic trick or do you have access to secret history? My art history professor was a viciously anti-White La Raza type and even she didn't claim that Central Americans had developed the potter's wheel.

>The lack of wheels might also have been a reason why metallurgy shows up so late

Meant to also say "and metal tools" here.

cont:

Lastly, it could might also be because in Eurasia, metallurgy developed alongside cities and complex civilization (tho I've seen some sourced dispute the timing there), so their infrastructure and logistics was able to be designed around metal tools, wheels etc, wheras in Mesoamerica, you had cities and civilization for thousands of years already before metals show up (Teotihuacan, see pic, for example, rose and fell before metallurgy shows up in the region, and it was on par with some of the largest Roman cities), so even if they now could use metal tools, make supports for wheels, it wasn't worth rethinking society to switch over to them.

>>2319418
I admit that going with the Tupi, Muisca, and especially the Mapucha is a bit baffling for me too. If they wanted a South American theme, the Chimu and Moche or Wari or Tiwanku were right there, and would have been a better ft by being fully urbanized civilizations (at least I think the Moche were, I've seen some sources describe them as Chiefdoms though for some reason). Certainly I'd have at least picked one of those over the Mapuche who weren't even organized into semi complex towns the same way the Tupi and Muisca were.

Really though if I hjad my pick, it'd be the Mississippians, Purepecha, and Chimu

>>2319451
I don't mean potter's wheels, they didn't have those. It was another kind of device though I admit off the top of my head I don't recall the name. For textile production they're just spindle whorls.

you don't need draft animals for
>wheelbarrow
>hand cart
>treadmill crane
>(wind or water)mill
and those are just examples from game techs. wouldn't a water pump be useful for people who built their city in the middle of a lake?
>>
>>2319480
>wheelbarrow
>hand cart
in their circumstances, inferior to a Tumpline

>treadmill crane
primary usecase is lifting many heavy stones when constructing multi-storey masonry and required significant tooling. There just wasn't sufficient incentive

>mill
maize is ground wet, water mills focus on dry grinding. It's a whole different crop and process

>water pump
solves verticality issues, mesos were solving more for drainage and flooding which favoured gravity-based solutions rather than pumps

Somewhere like Colombia is going to have vastly different circumstances, needs, and resources compared to France

I'm a bit disappointed that they never backported all the campaigns, but then again what was ported is ridiculously easy and overshadowed by the newer campaigns they made for it. It leaves AoE I's situation being in an awkward segway between three releases, since DE also redesigns entire scenarios. Though they did finally import Regicide after Chronicles released, the king is slower than villagers with the wheel researched.
>>

yeah and bretons are celts, but it’d be weird if the celts civ was based primarily off of them wouldn’t it?
>>
>>2319577
That's a bad comparison. Celts are more of a linguistic group than anything else. An extremely vast one with many different cultures, from Ireland to Central Anatolia.
The Celts should in fact be renamed to Picts. There is nothing Irish, Welsh, Cumbrian, or Breton about them. A more apt comparison for your argument would be if there was a "Caucasian" civ and it was exclusively focused on Armenians, rather than a nebulous wider Pan-Caucasian civ that included elements of the Georgians and other various Caucasian peoples like the Albanians or Circassians. Or if a "Greek" civilization was based entirely off land-based Sparta, ignoring everything else.
Cilician Armenians are just Armenians.

I'm really low IQ and I always end up killing more of my own melee units with mangonels than the enemy's crossbows. >I always end up killing more of my own melee units with mangonels than the enemy's crossbows
Sometimes my mangonels demand a sacrifice
>>
>>2320169
yes it still works, the market nerf did not hurt the strat much (except for some food heavy units). And you usually position your castle covering gold and wood or put your reinforcements near your gold and wood for protection. If you meant food UU's you usually add farms and/or buy some food to produce units.

It can be a hard strategy but with some practice getting used to it, you can wreck people and make people salty with it.

Should of included a build order with my initial post, works mostly the same with all civs but some can do it faster i.e civs that don't make castle UU's or civs with good eco bonuses like ethiopians.

90% true other than incas are best at anti-ranged in post imp.

incas have cheaper eagles and aztecs have faster training eagles, mayas have nothing before expensive imp techs.

6 of them someone queue dodged or had their queue crash.

Goddamn, got matched with an actual honest-to-god hacker in ranked. Didn't even know these kinda cheats existed.

Dude had full vision of the map, knew exactly where his sheep and deer where hiding in the fog of war at the start (including bonus neutral sheep), perfectly tracked and hunted down vils he had no vision of across the map, and perfectly tracked our armies he had zero way of seeing.

But worst of all he had the ability to attack and destroy unbuilt building foundations we placed. Sent villagers to wall of a section with a gate? He saw it instantly through the fog of war, ran to the foundation and destroyed it, and then hunted down the vils. Even did it to a castle my mate tried to build on a hill because his scouts just ran up to the foundation and destroyed it before the vils could even get to it.

And of course he was fucking Chinese because where else would these fuckers come from.
>>
>>2323984

So why are the devs willing to give the Inca accurate architectural graphics but the Aztec and Maya are still stuck with grey ruins instead of painted buildings?

>>
>>2324046
I like the idea of Longbowmen replacing Crossbow/Arbalester better, but I wouldn't know how to fill the void beyond an infantry or cavalry unit.
>>
>>2324068
Because Inca was never an original civ while Maya and Aztec are and devs are extra careful to not change these civs from pre-forgotten too much.
We should get unique Caucasus architecture and Persians using Central Asian architecture before attempting to ruin Meso buildings.
>>
>>2324073
>Longbowmen replacing Crossbow/Arbalester
This goes against my agenda of preventing Britons from having nice things.
>>
>>2324084
I don't think they'll get touched for the reason that they're very much a legacy civ a lot of people remember that has otherwise been largely unchanged over the years, and unlike Persians that did get a small revamp to overcome a newfound identity crisis - are also just kind of content being the most straightforward archer civ while the Longbowmen are more or less meme-tier.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhHfiAy0bWk

They're a decent unit who just has the most redundant overlap while the civ is tactically pigeonholed compared to many more newer civs. Full upgrades on infantry isn't exactly stellar when plenty of others have capable infantry and archers alike and then some, even if they're not getting the same initiative.
>>
>>2324068
>>2324069
what would you pick for the tlaxcala civ's UU, wonder, and castle?
>>
>>2324100
Having tlaxcala as a separate civ would be almost as bad as having Wei, Wu, and Shu as separate civs.
>>
Would bulgarians getting crossbow make them too OP? Maybe making stirrups apply to cav archer and taking away their thumb ring could keep it balanced.
>>
>>2324115
Archers themselves are OP, so yes
>>
>>2324115
They're already doing very well for themselves since the infantry buffs. Generic cav archers only missing the final armor upgrade, yet can tech in much faster (like, their only real fundamental problem) is already good on top of strong infantry and cavalry, on top of cheaper siege workshop techs what fucking else do you need?
>>
>>2324100
I have to agree with >>2324105, I think it'd be a waste to have Tlaxcala as a separate civ when they were culturally quite close to the Mexica and other groups within the core of the Aztec Empire anyways, even if politically the Tlaxcalteca were enemies.

Bluntly I'm not sure I know enough about AOE to answer the question also, but obviously either the wonder or castle would have to be the Tizatlan senate.

I'd go with the Purepecha, Mixtec or Zapotec, or Teotihuacan for additional Mesoamerican civs.

I'd also agree with this.
The Tlaxcalans were a regionally small confederation that, militarily, was similar to the Nahuatl (Aztecs could be renamed that so that they could be more of an umbrella). They were culturally unique by not building the grandiose palaces and temples, but more spread out settlements with more democratic functions, not only between settlements but also within their cities, but there's no good way to represent that ingame without some gimmicky Age4-esque "play wide instead of tall" area of effect strcuture.
Otherwise, they'd be pretty redundant when there are more unique other groups that could be captured as well; they just had influence during one pivotal moment, but I don't think that earns them a unique slot

>>

Chariots were already considered very out of date by hundreds of years at that point, suitable for ceremonies maybe, but not combat. The proper way to do it would be to have chariots as an age 1 thing, but they are prohibitively expensive and take a long time to train. Once you get to age 3, you get normal horsemen as units that are as effective, but less expensive.

One aspect that I really apreciate about AoE2, and which I missed when playing AoE3, is the concept of gold runnning out and trash wars. You can go for a double gold comp but have to keep in mind that you will run out of steam earlier. Some civs excel at the hyper late game and others are put on a timer.
It's also part of the reason why I don't like team games.

The United States is very bad at RTS games and isn't a popular genre there. You used to have a couple extremely good Canadians (Slam, Chris) but they've moved on with their lives and don't play much anymore. Not sure on France/Austria. Norwegians and the Finns are autistic so RTS appeals to them. RTS is big in Asian countries so I think that explains there. Not sure why AoE2 is popular in South America. Argentina especially seems to love it, though. I think their President challenged his opposition to a 1v1 on Arabia at some point. Then you got the one random fuck from India with Dragonstar. AoE2 also can run fairly well on most machines and doesn't require anything super robust, so third worlders with older machines can play it which probably explains SA.

Castle Age unlock, pick two from (blacksmith, market, archery range, stable).
Imperial Age unlock, pick two from (monastery, university, siege workshop) OR build a castle.

I find curious how much you care about the lack of Armenian historical accuracy in this game
Are you Armenian, you simply care for Armenian history/representation?
>>
>Historically accurate Armenians
Rome's bitch or Persia's though?

Both, it bounced between them

I'm a spleeter too, but along ethno-cultural lines, not statal lines. There's AOE4 for the latter.
>>
>>2325913
I care nothing for historical accuracy I just want good sounding voice lines.
Feudal Longswords is such a fun civ bonus but I just can't enjoy Armenians as much as I do Celts, Goths or Romans because the Armenian voice actors sound completely dead and spamming right click fills your ears with this horrible ZZZZ buzzing izen vurador bullshit.
