The problem with the studio is that they need people to run the mocap recording, which is a specialization of AV tech, and a director and choreographer, and probably a water boy so people don't collapse. I'm not saying someone couldn't pick that kind of thing up but a programmer hired to make Holopalworld bear ass collection quests isn't going to be a drop-in for someone who's done DJ work or handled the lights and pyros for a stage show.
If COVID kept going maybe Holoearth's scale out would make sense but really it's a choice between being a idol troupe with a plastic merch line to sustain the basic profitability, or a video game company that also does occasional live theatre. The video game company arc is a bit out to pasture now, but the idol troupe took damage because of it.

I just wish someone had the foresight to pull the plug on this project, it's pretty apparent that it will never be successful. The scope of the project resembles one of those kickstarter scam mmos and truth be told, Cover just doesn't have the ability to produce a real finished game this ambitious when the tech they have produced so far is pretty meager if we're being nice.
The stupidest thing is that this project IF it ever released properly, wouldn't generate much revenue. It just takes revenue from other stuff Cover sells because the userbase consists mostly of existing fans who have a limited amount of funds they use to support holos. They will just buy less merch or other stuff if they buy micro transactions in this game

Hoomans don't explicitly hate or fear balloons themselves (assuming they're not meant to carry people across long distances), but they would likely see the act of sending balloon-like objects into the sky as disrespectful due to the Nameless One's... lack of fondness for balloons in certain contexts.
My initial thought on the "boats with candles" idea was that they may be a bit touchy about it as the communities best situated to do that are likely the ones most worried about offending the Pink One. You see, there's been an effort in recent years on the part of some groups who may or may not be in positions of power to make her more involved in the world and they would be thus opposed to anything that may offend her, such as polluting the waters or harming the orcas living there.
Then again, if the candlelit miniature boats thing was a tradition going way back it'd be hard to argue against continuing the practice. Or alternatively, I suppose it could be the reverse of the above. Maybe the suspect groups introduced the tradition as a way to show devotion to the Pink One! Besides, if I had these people oppose a tradition on wildlife conservation grounds, I'd have to write a supernatural reason for some of the orcas in the Sea of Scotos seemingly wearing flower hats now. (though given that it seems I'll also have to explain a change in the matriarchs' pigment, a supernatural explanation may be unavoidable)
In terms of where in the year something like that would be slotted, I already have something written down as a New Years (Eve) tradition. If I knew the procedures and significance of them, though, I could picture the sending of candlelit boats as a tribute of some kind on a hypothetical Day of Pink Devotion. I guess I'd have to learn more about the irl practice and its purpose before saying anything for certain, but I can see a place for it.
