Is the person we are when we're by ourselves, with no consequences or considerations, really the "real" version of us? Western philosophy in the modern day has an extremely elevated conception of the individual. Rights are individual, responsibilities are individual. But is the "me" that exists alone on a desert island a more "true" version of me than the one that exists around my family? If I wear a "mask" in a particular situation, is that a false version of me, or is it an equally authentic version of me as I exist in a different environment/setting?

I guess I'm asking, is playing Fox on Final Destination more authentic than playing Fox on The Great Cave Offensive? Isn't an absence of outside influence its OWN kind of influence? Especially for humans, who have evolved to be strongly social creatures, couldn't you argue that a version of you lacking social feedback from others is ITSELF a less authentic version of you?

i've been making that point when i said we're the sum of all parts, and disagreeing we are most ourselves when alone. to begin with i don't think there is any value in the person we would be with 0% outside influence. it would just be some kind of hyper-dumb animal since even they have environments, something between a bug and a mammal. since we have memories and learned behavior, the environment of the past also affects the (you) when alone.

the thought behind the post you replied to originates from my debates about free will. what would it mean for a will to be completely free, and me arguing that we wouldn't even want that. that it would mean there is no reason behind our actions at all. it would just be nonsense.

even when people extol individualism they still want their will to be contingent on their own past actions, just not on the actions of others, but then you are not free from yourself. and i wouldn't want to be free from myself. and myself could have only come into being through interaction with others.

so tl;dr i basically agree, i think its all authentic, its all you but in different situations.

I’m incredibly sorry for removing it from the vod everybody; I just want it to be as nice of an experience to watch for everyone as possible. The way I acted was embarrassing and I’m ashamed in it and am incredibly sorry. I don’t wish to really hide it but also for anyone watching the vod, I don’t want to distress them in the way I distressed everyone in this stream. Next time I see something I don’t like, I’m going to take more effort to be careful with my wording and if I think I may get too heated, I will wait until a time where I am feeling more level headed. Today was fun besides it though so I wanted to keep the rest. I promise this was a valuable experience for me and in future I will try even harder to make all streams be a positive expirience for everyone, as well as always lead with kindness and respect for my Champys. I am so sorry again, it’s really my bad and I hope you can forgive me even if right now you’re frustrated.

Please let’s just all be nise to each other, these things happen, and it’ll be okay with time I promise. Arguing in circles is a little silly. Let’s all just try our best to be respectful as we all care about eachother. Sometimes stuff happens, we are all human (rabbas!) Best we can do after the fact though is pick ourselves up and understand that these things happen and it’s okay. What’s important is how we can regroup. It’s been a tricky day but it’s all okay now. Let’s be humble from now on. I can’t promise I’ll always be perfect, but I promise I’ll always try my best, that’s the best we can all do
