Koikatsu is a porn game with a built-in character designer and 3D rendering studio, so a lot of people use it to recreate anime characters. Also, it depends on how "complete" the reference material is. A blank 3d model for anatomy/lighting or a ref sheet as a color guide won't cause problems because the artist does stuff on top of that.
