Here is one of the few charts that tracks both companies from as far back as it is possible.
Even if you considering that Nijisanji dominated the vtuber market from Mito's debut in Feb 2018 until Feb 2020 when it was already clear that Hololive was already way past them it was at most 2 years of "domination".
That's not what happened tho because for half that period vtubing was still the "four heavenly kings" domain and even after the meta shifted to live streaming, for a good part of that period lots of players (like .LIVE, 774 Inc. and Indies) were competitive with Nijisanji.

Nijisanji NEVER had such a clear domination over the overall vtuber market as Hololive has over the female vtuber market and that's what makes it so hard for VSPO to compete in the same market, leaving them only the overall FPS market as a differentiator

I've been thinking about that too.
It's clear Aqua's continuing too, though not in Hololive, but it's still sad because it's not as clear cut as Coco and Sana's were in terms of "why".

Coco's was the end of an era in a lot of ways, but also in how the rest of the industry treated it.
Aqua's doing a graduation tour, but she's barely collabed outside of Holo AND there are several events for other holo members happening around the same time. (the ID and EN concerts, buildup for the Regloss 3D debut, Myth anniversary already announced)
Coco's had this weird timing where all the events and sponsors were announced in the week after she left. 2 days of mourning, then rebirth with Marine's 3D live.
