Some teams make it work but it's also liable to get CPU confused and make them run around as they toggle between their two instructions, so a lot managers see it as a net liability.

When fluid is off, the team will defend on three defensive lines, so even if your formation is a 4-1-2-1-2, you will defend with a 4-4-2 flat. But the team had fluid on, which forced the team to defend in a 4-1-2-1-2, which is arguably a worse defence, because it leaves some gaps that if you don't know how to manage, are going to be boulevards for the opponent's attackers. So while the two teams had mirror formations on the offence, /warkop/ had the superior defensive setup.
