I don't think "allowed" has ever really seemed to have been something that has had much impact on stuff fans make for birthdays. Beyond them not being able to show it directly on stream. Considering they don't show it and just link the videos then react to them like a watchalong any copyright stuff isn't on their channel. I think there was plenty of people making things independently for Pomu too, just those often didn't get an opportunity to be spotlighted in a stream because the big community projects formatted in a ways that were convenient to be able to show on stream while following the rules took up the time for that stuff. There was a guy from here who one year made his own Pomu video with cameos and stuff that I think didn't get shown but I think she reacted to it in a tweet or something instead I believe. Makes it very very hard to archive their art efficiently. The classic is the artist who posts 10% art and 90% memes and you can't scrape their page without getting mostly junk. Sometimes they post sketches and full pieces on Twitter but commissions only on Pixiv so you have to save both (and deduplicate if there's a lot of stuff). Then there's artists who usually post very high res stuff which gets rescaled down to 4096x Twitter-side, so then you have multiple versions of the same piece and good luck detecting which is which. On top of that different websites might get different versions of the same exact art so you have to save all of them if you want a complete set.
Some cases that I had to investigate recently include:
- Trrlwd's Pomu here https://x.com/trrlwd/status/1708512877437702442 is 2896x4096 and uncensored whereas the Pixiv version https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/112202594 is 4963x7019 but mosaic-censored, so I have to keep both. This is not always true for his art though so I have to review everything manually every time.
- Cipher drew DokiMint here https://x.com/Cipher6969_/status/1819047535136346304 and censored not just their genitalia but toes as well; he claims it's because Twitter hates feet and would shadowban his post but then he did the same for the Pixiv version https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/122473415 ... except he then posted a CROP of only the uncensored feet but ONLY on Twitter https://x.com/Cipher6969_/status/1819767619953828124 so that's a puzzle for the ages (and a mess for me -- do I edit the feet in or do I keep it a separate image?). The only place to get the full uncensored art is on his Patreon but as far as I know he never advertised it, so even if it was all a ruse it wasn't a good one.
And there's of course many many more examples of the main point like Bluecarrot (and Kairunoburogu, but that's not /lazu+/) being constantly on my archive backlog because they ONLY post on Twitter and scraping their stuff is a nightmare. Or Yoyoray who has like five different websites to post in and I never can tell just what her "main" is if she even has one.

hydrus has been nice for workflow and organizing; found out about it after my collection started outgrowing windows thumbnail caching. I can just drag the thumbnail from a twitter media tab onto some auto-tag category

It's not a "bubble" if it supplies 90% of reincarnates. It's a general sentiment because corpos give vtubers a whole bunch of people to interact with on a daily basis (on and off stream) which can't be replicated otherwise and a whole culture with its own memes and quirks starts to form around them. I get what you mean. I like Doki and they're still great together so in this regard I'm kinda satisfied. She's getting to participate in not just cons, but anikura events as well, and multiple concerts, including one on an aircraft carrier and one where she'll collab with one of AKB48's sister groups. (collab with a flesh idol group? HMMMMMM.......) All things Niji wouldn't/didn't allow her to do.
Not to mention the cons she's able to participate in now is more than just Anime Impulse #25, but ones located all over the country.

Yeah, must be because I'm new that I can't think of all of these covers that vtubers are doing where they sing along with some outside music group. And as for content, I prefer videos or streams. Preferably the latter, but if the former is creative it can be really nice. She did plenty of streams over her last year where she wasn't just moping around and being sad. It's true that I don't have any inside knowledge of this horrible treatment, but neither do you. I know I liked it more than what has happened since she returned. It's nice she decided to do some creative stuff on her birthday stream, but I didn't see anything that wouldn't have been allowed with a few tweaks removing things that could get her in trouble with youtube.

I think Mint is doing fine and have enjoyed lots of the content she has done since she redebuted. But I mostly agree when it comes to cons and stuff like that. Even when she was in Niji they have never benefited me as a fan in any way. If anything they have only ever really taken away from my enjoyment because I can't watch the vtubers I want to watch because of them. The only bit of happiness I ever get out of them really is the idea that the vtubers I like get some enjoyment out of doing them. As for the idol collab group while I am sure Mint is happy about it, its largely the same story. I am not even a fan of AKB48 let alone a Malaysian off shot for me to be excited about it for any other reason than it would make Mint happy about doing it and her being happy gives me some secondhand happiness.

The way I look at it, if a streamer is getting burnt out and can't give their best effort, they should get away from it for a while. It's more healthy for any job, but vtubers are notoriously unhealthy. There is the worry that they lose viewers while away, but if they are established it's usually just a temporary thing.
