I thought I might like Berserk because I ended up liking JoJo and Baki after she mentioned them, but I got kind of disinterested after the Black Swordsman arc. Guts is fun, but none of the other characters are really compelling and it falls into the "bad guys are just pure evil for the sake of it" trap. People that try to argue Griffith is compelling are retarded, guy's only role is to be loathsome, which would work if every other antagonist wasn't exactly the same

With that said, even Miura has talked about how weak Black Swordsman is because he wrote Guts and the story to be simple. If you don't fuck with Golden Age then I would say drop it. The series is probably not for you. There is a reason that they always adapt that part.

Look at the Old Demon King fight earlier, she was afraid of every thing that boss did (even if it wasn't really warranted) which caused her to make silly mistakes and take unnecessary hits. With Pontiff, nothing he did seemed to phase her besides the clone which I think drew out her full "potential" since she just went with whatever happened rather than second guess her own moves.
