Female Custodes is one of recent pieces of lore that most people hate. But for example, people accepted new version of necrons that changed them from brainless murderbots into what they are today, even if there was some initial reluctance about it. Then there's just bad lore that doesn't contradict shit on its own directly but it gets a ton of hate it like Grey Knight codex 6th edition. It also helps that a lot of it is either unreliable narrators, "inquisition censored the shit out of these records", conflicting reports from different sides(an Aeldari codex TYPICALLY would wank Aeldari, SM codex would wank SM and so on). Unless GW fucks up really badly people tend to just roll with it.

This has also been an answer for why there's no female SM for a very long time - you can't apply a complicated genetic surgery with not-so-great survival rate even among the most fitting candidates to much more different body and expect it to survive. Besides, narratively there's always been a female counterpart to "boys only" clubs. SM have Sisters of Battle, Custodes have Sisters of Silence - a hyper elite female group of anti-psykers.
