To pose a specific example, Fox's up throw -> up air -> up air (repeat) combo in Melee on certain fighters is extremely easy to do, super rewarding (it combos for days against certain fighters, naturally covers options because it's a vertical juggle, and even kills at later percents), but escaping it is extremely precise. You have to SDI out of the first hit, which in a vacuum is learnable, but when you factor in differing speeds, hurtbox sizes, and the tight window of Melee's hitstop, it gets really difficult. The pros have no problem with it, but mid-level players struggle hard against it. Foxes can do it for free against a huge number of people, and "just don't get grabbed" isn't feasible even at the highest level of play. Worst part is, I don't even know how you'd fix that from a design standpoint. Maybe make it a single hit with lower knockback growth and more landing lag? It's difficult to figure out a rework that would make it easier to deal with but not totally gut it.

Of course that would just make it a more oppressive combo tool, so you’d have to change the angle to be more horizontal, and at that point Fox’s losing matchup against Puff becomes more losing, so…It’s difficult. It’s like when you reach the end of a sudoku and you find out you screwed up somewhere and have two 9’s in the same row, and you keep changing numbers to try to fix it but you end up creating more conflicts.
